Same as above. There is a lean on FSU, but both offenses can be dinged enough so as to want to avoid the risk of this spread. PASS.

Even though the Bulldogs should get back in the win column on Friday night, I’ll PASS on their moneyline in this game. Betting on a team straight up at nearly -200 odds isn’t advised.

Against the spread

BET FRESNO STATE -4.5 (-105).

While the Bulldogs were upset on the road against Wyoming, this is a nice get-right spot for them against the Aggies. Fresno State boasts the 18th-best passing offense (301.7 yards per game) and Utah State is giving up 241.2 YPG passing.

On top of that, the Bulldogs are 2-1 ATS on the road this season and are 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings overall.

Over/Under

UNDER 56.5 (-105) is how I’d play the total with Fresno State allowing only 18.17 points per game (24th in the nation). The Bulldogs are also 22nd in time of possession this season, so they’ll try to control the clock and keep the Aggies off of the field in this matchup.

While Utah State has been involved in shootouts this season, Fresno State hasn’t been involved in a game that has had 58-plus total points scored since beating Kent State 53-10 in Week 4.

Against the spread

FRESNO STATE -24.5 (-115) is worth playing in this Mountain West Conference opener, but be very cautious and go lightly.

This is a lot of points, but the truth is Nevada +24.5 (-105) has been one of the worst teams in FBS, if not the worst. It ranks 120th in total yards per game in offense (310.5), while posting just 191.5 passing yards and 119 rushing yards per showing. Defensively, the Wolf Pack ranks 132nd in FBS with a God-awful 536.8 total yards per game allowed, including 340.5 passing yards per contest. Nevada is coughing up 41.3 PPG, and again, it was trucked by 27 points against the Vandals on its home field in Reno. Not good.

Over/Under

OVER 50.5 (-115) is a slam-dunk play, and you should bet it rather aggressively.

Fresno State could and should take care of the total on its own. Nevada cannot get out of its own way on defense, and the Bulldogs could run out to a big 1st-half lead. In fact, playing 1ST HALF – OVER 26.5 POINTS (-110) might be an even better play than the full-game total.

Against the spread

NEVADA -3.5 (-105).

The Wolf Pack won the 1st meeting that started the 3-game losing streak for Fresno State, who have struggled in recent games at home. Theys are 2-10 ATS in their last 12 home games against teams with losing road records.

Nevada is 21-6-2 ATS in its last 29 Friday games and are 4-1 in its last 5 games against a team with a win percentage under .400.

Simply, 3.5 points is not enough for the Bulldogs in this matchup, and I will take the -105 value on the Wolf Pack to cover.

Over/Under

OVER 129.5 (-110).

At 61.7 points, the Fresno State offense ranks 351st in the nation while Nevada ranks 146th at 73.2 points.

On defense, Fresno State has only been allowing 64.6 points but allowed 77 to Nevada just 2 weeks ago. Nevada will be able to get some points and get to 70 in this game. With the total being so low at 129.5, this game will get to the Over.

FRESNO STATE (+180) is worth a roll of the dice. The Bulldogs will look to use their upset of New Mexico as a springboard into this road adventure in Fort Collins.

Plus, Colorado State (-240) has really struggled lately, dropping 4 in a row, and you can’t risk nearly 2 1/2 times your potential return on a team that is ice cold.

Against the spread

FRESNO STATE +5.5 (-105) is still a decent value catching the points, if you can’t bring yourself to playing it straight up.

Go lightly, though, as Fresno State is just 2-6 ATS in the past 8 games on the road, and 4-9 ATS in the past 13 games overall.

While that sounds risky taking the Bulldogs, remember that Colorado State is 3-10 ATS in the past 13 games at home, and 0-4 ATS in the past 4 games overall.

Over/Under

This game will be a battle of 2 teams that lean heavily on their quarterbacks.

Fresno State QB Jake Haener, a transfer from Washington early in his career, has shown toughness and ability throughout the past 2 seasons with the Bulldogs. From being carted off the field in Sept., he has shown the perseverance to come back and battle with his teammates.

This was shown once again in the Bulldogs’ 28-16 victory over Boise State in the Mountain West championship game. A win that not only got them into this game but also avenged an early season 20-point loss to the same Broncos team.

Washington State QB Cam Ward, a transfer from Incarnate Word University, has led the team to a 7-5 record while competing in the loaded Pac-12 conference. A 51-33 loss to the No.12 Washington Huskies to wrap up the season on Nov. 27 has left a bitter taste in the mouth of the Cougars and they will look to gain retribution Saturday.

Ward came to Washington State with his former head coach Eric Morris as offensive coordinator but will now have to finish his season and career without Morris who just accepted the job as coach of North Texas University. Ward finished the season with 3,094 passing yards, 23 TDs and 8 INTs.

BET WASHINGTON STATE (+160).

This will be a difficult game for both teams. Washington State has had some difficulties this season and losing both coordinators before this game also will make things difficult.

Despite this, I like Washington State to win outright making the moneyline a more attractive wager than the spread. Haener is a wonderful player for Fresno State, but he cannot do it alone. I feel like the Cougars’ offense will be just a bit too much for the Bulldogs to handle, so give me WASHINGTON STATE (+160).

Against the spread

PASS.

With the feeling being that the Cougars will win, I would rather make a wager on the moneyline. The Pac-12 is a better conference than the Mountain West and Washington State has been a little more tested than Fresno State throughout the season.

Over/Under

BET OVER 53 (-109).

The outcome depends on the motivation of each team in the game in many bowl games. Neither of these two teams will have opt-outs to worry about and both teams still are humble enough to be happy about being in a bowl game.

Haener will want to finish his career with a win, and the Bulldogs will have to put up quite a few points to outduel the Cougars. This number seems a bit too low for this game and I see it getting to 60. OVER 53 (-109) is my favorite play.
