Freddie Freeman’s bat made a ridiculous noise on this homer and made Braves fans emotional

This thing was CRUSHED.

Freddie Freeman has had an emotional few days recently. His trip back to Atlanta last weekend to face his former team brought up a lot of memories of the many years he spent there and the championship he won with them just last season.

That trip was followed up by Freeman firing his agents, which made many fans believe that he never really wanted to leave the Braves in free agency last offseason.

Freeman seemed to take out his frustrations on a baseball last night as he crushed the first pitch he saw in the top of the first inning in Colorado.

Listen to the sound this made:

Yup, that was a no-doubter and must have felt pretty good. The Dodgers went on to win the game, 8-4, and continue to have the best record in the NL.

Twitter had reactions to that homer:

Everything we know about Freddie Freeman and why he reportedly fired his agent

The Freddie Freeman agent saga is getting weird.

The free agency involving star first baseman Freddie Freeman heading to the Los Angeles Dodgers last winter might have turned out to have been much more dramatic than we knew.

That’s at least according to various reports and the fact that Freeman fired his agent … right after his visit to play his old team, the Atlanta Braves last weekend. As you might recall, Freeman spent 12 seasons in Atlanta and won a World Series ring with them last year before signing a six-year, $162 million contract with the Dodgers ($57 million of that is deferred money).

So what’s going on here? We’ve put together what we know so far as this continues to unfold:

Freddie Freeman fired his agents right after returning to Atlanta for first time with Dodgers

He REALLY does not want to be a Dodger, huh?

We’re two-plus months into the 2022 MLB season, and Freddie Freeman’s move to the Los Angeles Dodgers remains one of the stranger and more awkward stories in baseball. On Tuesday, it took another turn.

According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, Freeman fired his agents at Excel Sports Management and is now listed as self represented.

Freeman returned to Atlanta this past weekend for the first time as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He received his World Series ring, had his share of emotional, teary scenes and even took an inadvertent elbow from his replacement, Matt Olson.

But the circumstances that led to Freeman leaving the Braves — his home for 12 seasons — remained a source of frustration for Freeman. During negotiations, in which the Braves had offered Freeman $135 million over five years, Freeman’s representation reportedly made contact with Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos after the lockout to give him an ultimatum and deadline.

Realizing that a deal wasn’t happening, the Braves made the decision to trade for Olson. Freeman signed with the Dodgers for six years, $162 million — $57 million of which is deferred.

And while Freeman has had a fine season thus far with the Dodgers, even the Dodgers players are noticing how Freeman misses being with the Braves. Clayton Kershaw had this to say to the AJC over the weekend:

“It was very cool (to see Freeman’s reception Friday night). He’s obviously been a big contributor for our team. And I hope we’re not second fiddle. It’s a pretty special team over here, too. I think whenever he gets comfortable over here, he’ll really enjoy it. It was a good night for him (Friday).”

“Second fiddle.” Ouch.

At the very least, Kershaw confirmed that Freeman still isn’t comfortable with the Dodgers. And Freeman’s decision to fire his agents right after visiting Atlanta only adds credence to the notion he regrets leaving the Braves.

As you could expect, MLB fans had plenty to say about the news.

Matt Olson hit Freddie Freeman with a ‘sword’ celebration and MLB fans thought it was hilarious

The awkwardness was too PERFECT.

Sometimes baseball can be so poetic even when it isn’t trying to be. Sunday night was one of those times.

The weekend series between the Dodgers and Braves was an obviously emotional time for Freddie Freeman. The first baseman had spent 12 years in Atlanta, won a World Series and then saw the Braves trade for his replacement (Matt Olson) amid stalled contract negotiations. In his return to Atlanta, Freeman received his World Series ring, had a teary pregame press conference and a standing ovation in his first at-bat.

But come Sunday, he was just another Dodgers player. And he happened to be on the receiving end of Olson’s celebration at first base.

Shortly after Freeman gave the Dodgers a 10th-inning lead, Olson tied the game back up with a single of his own. As Olson was on first base, he turned to the Braves dugout and did the customary “sword” celebration. His arm swing caught Freeman, and the awkwardness was too perfect.

“Ohhh, my bad,” Olson appeared to say. Sure, Matt. Sure.

As emotional as the weekend had been for Freeman, it had to be *that* uncomfortable for Olson. So, who could blame him for ignoring his spatial awareness there? Even if it was an accident (it probably was), MLB fans found the whole sequence hilarious.

Mics caught Guardians’ Jose Ramírez telling Freddie Freeman he’s ‘one of the best hitters, after me’

“You one of the best hitters, after me!”

As a perennial All-Star/Silver Slugger, Cleveland’s Jose Ramírez is undoubtedly one of baseball’s top talents. One could easily argue that the star third baseman is the engine that drives one of MLB’s more underrated teams — even with his teammates finding ways to make incredible plays of their own.

On Friday night, with the Guardians taking on the juggernaut Dodgers (-275) on the road, a mic’d up Ramírez made some waves off the diamond.

In a conversation from the dugout with L.A.’s fellow star Freddie Freeman — who was defending at the time — Ramírez complimented the Dodger’s skills.

But not without also complimenting himself:

Amazing. While Freeman wasn’t on camera, there’s simply no way he didn’t crack a smile at Ramírez’s friendly praise/barb.

In addition to the first laugh, Ramírez and the Guardians also got the last laugh when they ended up beating the Dodgers 2-1. For one night, it appears the Dodgers were one of baseball’s best teams … after Cleveland.

Freddie Freeman hit a home run in his first at bat against the Braves, because of course

Talk about a bittersweet moment for Freddie Freeman and Braves fans.

You couldn’t script this better if you were Freddie Freeman.

Monday night’s game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves was Freeman’s first against his former team. The reigning World Series champions traded for first baseman Matt Olson in March, signaling the end of Freeman’s 12-year career with the Braves in a move that shocked fans.

And now, it’s a move that came back to bite them, as Freeman not only hit his first home run as a member of the Dodgers, he did so in his first ever at bat against his former team! In the bottom of the first inning, Freeman hit a slicing line drive out to left field, which quickly got over the fence to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.

To hit a home run against your former team coming off a World Series win together has to be some incredible combination of bittersweet and satisfying if you’re Freeman. But hey, what a way to get your first home run with your new club!

Freddie Freeman consoling a teary José Iglesias at first base was just the sweetest gesture

This was all class from Freddie Freeman.

Colorado Rockies shortstop José Iglesias hit a run-scoring single in his first at-bat of the season on Friday and when he stood on the first base bag tears started to flow.

Why?

Because Iglesias’ dad recently passed away and he had seen just about every hit in his son’s MLB career.

Dodgers new first baseman Freddie Freeman asked Iglesias if he was OK and when he found out why Iglesias was so emotional, Freeman offered him a quick little hug in what just a great interaction between two human beings.

Check out this moment from Friday’s game at Coors Field in Colorado.

Freeman said this on Saturday:

“I just tried to be there for him, console him and just know that it’s more than a game,” Freeman said Saturday as he sat in the clubhouse. “You never know what any of us are going through in life. If he didn’t tell me, I would never have known that he had lost his father a couple of weeks ago. So I think it just kind of reminds you to just have some compassion and some humility and just be kind to others.

“Because, in that moment, all I wanted to do was hug that guy.”

Freddie Freeman is a good man.
