Former Spartan Foster Loyer drops 30 points in Davidson’s season opener

Breaking news: Foster Loyer is still a bucket

Despite some struggles playing in the Big Ten, Foster Loyer was always a beloved member of Michigan State basketball before transferring to Davidson. Now in the Atlantic 10 Conference, Loyer has thrived for Davidson, and he was back at it in their season opener, where he dropped 30 points on Guilford.

Loyer went 6-for-8 from three, demonstrating his absurd three-point shooting ability, as he led the Wildcats over Guilford, 87-64.

If you are anything like me, you want to see former Michigan State basketball players who moved to another school succeed, and we’ve got to see that in a great way this season with Foster Loyer, who transferred to the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Davidson this year.

On Tuesday, it was announced that Loyer was named to the Second-Team All-Conference team thanks to an insane season where he led the country in free throw percentage with 93.6-percent and was third in the country in three-point percentage with 45-percent. He averaged 16.9 points per game.

How Michigan State basketball transfers fared in the 2021-22 season

Find out how MSU’s outgoing transfers fared in the 2021-22 season

The transfer portal has become the new normal in NCAA athletics. The transfer portal, both incoming and outgoing, is something that fans of collegiate teams has come to expect every offseason. Michigan State is no different, and the school has had its fair share of outgoing transfers, and most notably incoming transfer point guard Tyson Walker.

As the regular season has come to a close for mid-major schools, and just a few days left for power conference schools, its a perfect time to look at how MSU’s outgoing transfers from a year ago fared in their 2021-22 season.

Take a look at how MSU’s transfers fared during their 2021-22 season:

Former Michigan State basketball PG Foster Loyer goes off

Foster Loyer had a career-high game, posting insane numbers!

Foster Loyer made the decision this past offseason to transfer from the Michigan State basketball program. Loyer ended up making the decision to head to the state of North Carolina to play for the Davidson Wildcats.

Loyer has found himself a comfortable role in the starting lineup with the Wildcats, and is starting to showcase his skills at the point guard position.

In a game against Northeastern, Loyer went absolutely nuts, scoring a career-high 35 points on 10-for-18 shooting, 8-of-12 being from beyond the 3-point line.

Spartan fans will be cheering on Loyer and the Wildcats as his season progresses.

Another domino has fallen as the Michigan State basketball roster continues to reshape itself following the 2020-21 season. On Monday, MSU guard Foster Loyer announced that he would enter the NCAA transfer portal as a grad transfer.

Loyer flashed some potential in his first two seasons with the Spartans, where he shot 45-percent from three in his second season. However, this past year, when the Spartans needed to find strong guard play, Loyer struggled and only shot 32.7-percent from three and often looked overmatched on defense.

Now, Loyer will get the opportunity to start his graduate studies on a scholarship and get some more college basketball run.

He becomes the 21st Spartan commit to win the award in the 101-year history of the award. He is also the first Spartan to win the award since Foster Loyer did 2018.

Brooks II averaged 33.1 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game in his senior season. Brooks II finished his career with 2,889 points which is the most of any senior edging out Foster Wonders who had 2,573 points. Brooks will be a great addition to a Spartans team that needs a lethal shooter.
