Alabama basketball firmly in the mix for Tennessee transfer F Jonas Aidoo

Alabama basketball in the mif for Tennessee transfer F Jonas Aidoo

[autotag]Nate Oats[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide are coming off of the program’s first-ever Final Four appearance, however, the team could look quite different next season. This is the new era of NIL and the transfer portal because Alabama replaced a majority of the roster as well as all three assistant coaches heading into the 2023-24 season. With [autotag]Mark Sears[/autotag] and [autotag]Grant Nelson[/autotag] in the NBA draft process and several other guys in the transfer portal, some roster spots are opening up.

If Sears and Nelson ultimately decide to leave those are bummers, but it is important to remember that not every departure is a loss. Especially when Oats has proven that he can find great players out of the transfer portal. Oats will certainly add some high-end talent to the roster in the coming weeks and months with one guy on his watch list being Jonas Aidoo of Tennessee.

Aidoo is a 6’11 forward with one more season of eligibility and started all 36 games for the Volunteers. In just shy of 25 minutes a game, Aidoo averaged 11.4 ppg and 7.3 rpg. The one thing the Tide missed ago was an athletic big, and Aidoo is the exact type of guy Oats likes for his system.

As of right now, it sounds like Aidoo is down to Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor and North Carolina.

Alabama Basketball forward Sam Walters expected to enter transfer portal

The Alabama basketball team saw its fourth scholarship player enter the transfer portal, as forward Sam Walters now looks for a new home.

The Alabama Crimson Tide basketball program saw its fourth scholarship player enter the NCAA transfer portal on Monday evening. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Sam Walters plans to enter the transfer portal.

Walters was a four-star prospect out of Villages Charter School in The Villages, Florida. He was regarded as one of the top power forwards in the country in the 2023 recruiting class.

Upon arriving in Tuscaloosa, Walters cemented a key role off the Crimson Tide bench. As a freshman, Walters averaged 5.4 points per game and 2.4 rebounds per game in 12.3 minutes per game. He shot 42.7% from the floor and 39.4% from beyond-the-arc.

Alabama will certainly miss Walters’ scoring prowess from three-point range. It will be interesting to see which direction Alabama chooses to go with one scholarship spot available at this time. That is subject to change with multiple players still to announce their decisions for the forseeable future. The likelihood of Walters returning to Tuscaloosa seems unlikely at this time.

Alabama Basketball reaches out to Notre Dame transfer forward Carey Booth

The Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball coaching staff recently reached out to Notre Dame transfer forward Carey Booth.

The Alabama Crimson Tide men’s basketball program is in its first Final Four in program history. However, it has not stopped the coaching staff from hitting the recruiting trail hard, especially as high-profile players enter the transfer portal. Most recently, Alabama reached out to Notre Dame Fighting Irish transfer forward Carey Booth.

Booth spent one season in South Bend. The native of Englewood, Colorado averaged 6.4 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, and 0.5 assists per game. He also shot 39.1% from the floor and 29.7% from beyond the arc.

Booth is listed at 6-foot-10 and 203 pounds. If he were to commit to the Crimson Tide, he would add depth and versatility to Alabama’s frontcourt. It would be interesting to see Booth paired up with incoming freshman Aiden Sherrell and Derrion Reid.

There is no timetable for Booth’s commitment, but updates will be available as his recruitment progresses.

Alabama MBB reaches out to Rutgers transfer forward Clifford Omoruyi

The Alabama coaching staff is already looking to add to its roster for next season. Recently, the Crimson Tide reached out to Rutgers transfer forward Clifford Omoruyi.

The Alabama men’s basketball team is still playing in the NCAA Tournament. However, the coaching staff has begun to reach out to transfers. Recently, the Crimson Tide reached out to Rutgers transfer forward Clifford Omoruyi.

Omoruyi is one of the most coveted transfers in the transfer portal. In four seasons at Rutgers, Omoruyi averaged 10.3 points per game, 7.7 assists per game, and 0.5 assists per game.

One area that Alabama has struggled with this season is protecting the rim. Over the course of his career, Omoruyi averages 1.8 blocks per game. It goes without saying that Omoruyi would provide an immediate boost to Alabama’s frontcourt.

Alabama could lose both Grant Nelson and Nick Pringle at the end of the season. Both are seniors who have the option to return or turn pro. Needless to say, Omoruyi is a viable option for the Crimson Tide to keep tabs on moving forward.

Alabama MBB reaches out to highly-coveted transfer forward

Despite preparing for March Madness, Alabama has reportedly reached out to Omaha forward Frankie Fidler, who recently entered the transfer portal.

The Alabama men’s basketball coaching staff has already began to recruit players in the transfer portal. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Alabama has reached out to Omaha transfer forward Frankie Fidler.

Fidler spent the first three seasons of his college career at Omaha. The Nebraska native has been effective in each season thus far. In three seasons, Fidler has averaged 16 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per game, 2.4 assists per game, and 1.1 steals per game. He has shot an efficient 45.4% from the floor and 35.4% from beyond-the-arc.

Alabama will likely lose multiple players on its roster this offseason to either the NBA draft or the transfer portal. Needless to say, Fidler could be an intriguing option for the Crimson Tide to consider moving forward.

West Virginia forward transfer Mohamed Wague transfers to Alabama

West Virginia forward transfer Mohamed Wague committed to Alabama over Kansas State and DePaul. Wague took visits to all three schools before ultimately choosing to transfer to the Crimson Tide.

West Virginia forward Mohamed Wague announced that he was transferring to Alabama on Wednesday. Wague chose the Crimson Tide over Kansas State and DePaul.

The had been some speculation that Wague was silently leaning toward committing to the Wildcats. However, the Alabama coaching staff continued to pursue the Mali native and was able to get him on campus for an official visit.

With the success that Alabama head coach Nate Oats has had with helping his players reach the NBA, Wague seems like the perfect fit.

Wague began his college career at Harcum College in Byrn Mawr, Pennsylvania. He averaged 14.8 points per game and 11.9 rebounds per game. Wague scored in double-digits in 25 of the 35 games that he played in for the Bears. Following the season, Wague was named as a JUCO All-American.

Soon after the season concluded, Wague chose to transfer to West Virginia. There, he played in 28 games averaging 4.1 points per game and 3.1 rebounds per game. With the changes to the coaching staff, Wague decided to enter the transfer portal.

Now, he will be headed to Tuscaloosa. He will join a frontcourt that is highlighted by North Dakota State transfer Grant Nelson. Wague will also be accompanied by the likes of Nick Pringle and Jarin Stevenson.

In all likelihood, Wague will see a lot of meaningful minutes during his junior season in Tuscaloosa. His production will likely increase as well after having played in Oats’ system. Wague’s ceiling is very high and the Alabama coaching staff is hopeful that he will showcase that potential next season.

Former Alabama forward Jusaun Holt transferring to Kennesaw State

Former Alabama forward Jusaun Holt will transfer to Kennesaw State to play for former Tide assistant, Antoine Pettway

Former Alabama forward Jusaun Holt announced that he was transferring to Kennesaw State on Monday afternoon. Holt spent last season playing for Mike White and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Holt began his college career in Tuscaloosa as a part of Alabama’s 2021 recruiting class. Holt was regarded as a four-star prospect out of St. Francis Day School in Roswell, Georgia.

In one season with the Crimson Tide, Holt averaged 0.7 points per game while averaging 7.0 minutes per game. After the 2021-2022 season ended, Holt entered the transfer portal and chose to transfer to Georgia.

As a sophomore, Holt averaged 3.2 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per game. Although his numbers were slightly improved during his time in Athens, he still struggled to be an efficient shooter.

After the 2022-2023 season concluded, Holt re-entered the transfer portal. Now, he will be heading to Kennesaw State where he will play for former Alabama assistant coach Antoine Pettway. Pettway recruited Holt out of high school, so it is fitting that the two reunite at the college level.

Needless to say, it will be interesting to see what type of role Holt carves out on the Owls’ roster next season. Pettway has already landed some notable transfers through the transfer portal. On Monday, he landed a former four-star in Jusaun Holt.

Former Alabama forward Jusaun Holt transferring from Georgia

Jusaun Holt has spent two seasons at the college level and has played for two teams — Alabama and Georgia. Holt is on the move again after entering the transfer portal on Wednesday morning.

Former Alabama forward Jusaun Holt announced on Wednesday morning that he was transferring from Georgia.

Holt began his college career at Alabama before transferring to Georgia last off-season.

At Alabama, Holt averaged 0.7 points per game and 1.6 rebounds per game. He played in 22 games for the Crimson Tide.

Upon transferring to Georgia, Holt played in 31 games and made 11 starts. He averaged 3.2 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per game.

One of the things that Holt has struggled with at the college level is his shooting percenatge. Holt has shot 27.5% from the field and 21.6% from three.

If he can improve his shot, he will be a very valuable player at his next stop. Several schools to keep a close eye on are Georgia Southern and Kennesaw State. Holt is a Georgia native and two former Alabama assistant coaches are the head coaches for those programs. Antoine Pettway is the head coach at Kennesaw State while Charlie Henry is the head coach at Georgia Southern.
