Notre Dame adds Tennessee recruiting director Dre Brown to staff

The Irish have made another addition to their staff.

Notre Dame has decided it needs another body on its staff to help its chances at getting to the next level. FootballScoop is reporting that the Irish have hired Dre Brown, the director of recruiting at Tennessee, in a role that will focus on recruiting and analyzing the offense. Given his previous role and his four years as a running back at Illinois, Brown is qualified to do what he is being hired for.

Brown was voted the Illini’s offensive MVP during his senior season in 2019. He also won the Bruce Capel Award, which is presented to the Illinois player with the most courage, dedication and accomplishment. That year, he produced more than his previous seasons combined, scoring 10 touchdowns and running for 584 yards on 113 carries. That brought his collegiate total to 162 carries, 902 yards rushing and seven touchdowns.

In an offseason that already has brought Marcus Freeman as Notre Dame’s new defensive coordinator, this is a nice cherry on top barring another hire for Brian Kelly. At this point, you can’t put anything past the Irish.

When you’re a top college football program battling with another for a certain coach, the nerves can rise.

When you’re a top college football program battling with another for a certain coach, the nerves can rise. It certainly looked like Cincinnati defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame’s top choice for the same role, was headed to LSU, according to a report from FootballScoop. Heck, this story was going to be about just that. But that’s all out the window because multiple outlets say sources have good news for Irish fans instead:

The Irish, of course, are coming off a season in which Clark Lea made the defense as strong as its ever been. But like Lea, several names will not be back, so it will be up to Freeman to get the most out of players who have not gotten the chance to shine yet. At the same time, he’ll have a nice group of returnees, including Kyle Hamilton, Isaiah Foskey, Clarence Lewis, Bo Bauer and Jack Kiser.

Welcome to South Bend, Marcus. You have a tough act to follow, but Brian Kelly obviously has faith in you. Go get ’em.

CFB’s top-paid LB coaches: Where does Georgia’s Glenn Schumann rank?

Kirby Smart and company spare little expense when hiring the coaching pieces that best fit the Bulldogs’ puzzle.

Kirby Smart and company spare little expense when hiring the coaching pieces that best fit the Bulldogs’ puzzle.

Georgia inside linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann arrived in Athens from the University of Alabama, where he worked under Smart as the Crimson Tide’s Director of Development and Associate Director of Player Personnel.

Schumann briefly held behind-the-scenes recruiting role early on in Kirby Smart’s tenure as Georgia’s head football coach before being quickly promoted to an on-field linebackers coach in 2017.

As per FootballScoop, Schumann is the third highest-earning LB coach in college football, behind Sal Sunseri of Alabama and Coleman Hutzler of Texas.

Sunseri tips the scales at $650,000 and Hutzler rakes in $600,000 under his contract. Schumann is tied at third with Washington’s Bob Gregory. Both coaches’ salaries are listed at $550,000.

Unlike the lyrics from but very much like the bank accounts of rock and roll super-group Temple of the Dog (Temple of the Dawg?), nobody on the list is going hungry.

Kirby Smart wants to eat.

He wants his players to eat (warning: language NSFW).

It would appear he wants his position coaches to eat, too.
