4-star LSU DL target sets commitment date

The Tigers will hope to pull the Jacksonville prospect away from Florida and Georgia.

We’re just over a week out from early signing day, but LSU will have to wait just a bit longer to find out where one of its top remaining targets is heading.

Four-star Westside (Jacksonville, Fla.) defensive lineman [autotag]Jordan Hall[/autotag] will announce his decision on Dec. 22. The 6-foot-4.5, 300-pound pass-rushing interior lineman is set to choose between Florida, Georgia, Alabama and LSU.

Hall is ranked as the No. 117 overall player and No. 16 defensive lineman in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He released a top-five at the beginning of November but has since cut Ohio State from that list.

Hall has several recent Crystal Ball projections to Georgia, and the Bulldogs are given an 85.6% chance to land him, per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

LSU has recently lost a pair of defensive line commitments in the 2023 class in [autotag]Darron Reed[/autotag], who flipped to Auburn, and [autotag]Joshua Mickens[/autotag]. Adding a player like Hall would be a major get for Kelly, though that would be a fairly big surprise at this point.

LSU the favorite to land five-star cornerback after visit for Alabama game

The Tigers’ already elite 2023 class could get even better if they can close with Desmond Ricks.

LSU was trending in the right direction for five-star IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) cornerback [autotag]Desmond Ricks[/autotag] before the Alabama game.

After the huge win, the interest between the Tigers and Ricks skyrocketed. LSU is now an 85% favorite to land the No. 12 player in the country and the No. 2 overall cornerback in the 2023 class.

LSU currently has the No. 4 overall recruiting class for 2023 with 25 commits. A commitment from Ricks would catapult the Tigers into the top three, at least. LSU has also received a crystal ball prediction for Ricks on 247Sports. Ricks plans to announce his commitment on Dec. 23. Talk about a Merry Christmas.

If [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] can make the SEC Championship and land Ricks in the month of December, he will have exceeded all expectations in Year 1 on the Bayou. LSU has a chance to clinch the SEC West this week with a win over Arkansas and an Alabama win over Ole Miss.

5-star quarterback commits to LSU, reclassifies to 2024

The Tigers picked up a commitment from five-star quarterback Colin Hurley on Friday, who is reclassifying from 2025 to 2024

LSU may have missed out on the sweepstakes for [autotag]Julian Sayin[/autotag], a five-star 2024 quarterback who committed to Alabama earlier this week, but it’s still coming away with one of the top passers available in next year’s cycle.

On Friday morning, five-star Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, Fl.) quarterback [autotag]Colin Hurley[/autotag] announced his commitment to the Tigers. He also announced that he would be reclassifying to the 2024 class, making him the sixth recruit in a group that ranks fourth nationally.

TCA is a powerhouse in Florida high school football, and Hurley was previously the No. 3 quarterback in the 2025 class. Now, the Tigers have landed an elite signal-caller in next year’s cycle.

This is yet another major win on the recruiting trail for coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag], and LSU has now landed a blue-chip quarterback in four consecutive cycles.

Five-star cornerback to visit LSU this weekend

A big-time visitor is set to be on LSU’s campus this weekend as Desmond Ricks will be in town ahead of an official visit in December.

According to On3, LSU will have a high-priority recruiting target on campus this weekend.

Five-star cornerback [autotag]Desmond Ricks[/autotag] is set for an unofficial visit against the Alabama Crimson Tide. He also has an official visit to Baton Rouge planned in December.

Once a part of the 2024 class, Ricks chose to reclassify to 2023 last month. Per the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Ricks is the second-best corner in the class, behind Cormani McClain, a Miami commit.

LSU has three corners committed this cycle, the highest ranked being [autotag]Daylen Austin[/autotag], a four-star from California. Austin is joined by a couple of three-stars in [autotag]Jeremiah Hughes[/autotag] and [autotag]Ashton Stamps[/autotag].

Rebuilding the secondary has been a priority since Kelly took the job at LSU and the Tigers could be set to lose significant pieces again next year, with [autotag]Mekhi Garner[/autotag] and [autotag]Jarrick Bernard-Converse[/autotag] likely both headed to the NFL.

Top LSU target sets Baton Rouge official visit

LSU will host five-star IMG Academy cornerback Desmond Ricks on Dec. 17.

With a 23-man recruiting class in 2023 that already sits squarely in the national top 10, LSU can turn its attention to a few major targets.

Arguably the biggest uncommitted target left on the board for the Tigers, five-star cornerback [autotag]Desmond Ricks[/autotag], was on campus in September and will return on Dec. 17 to take an official visit, per On3’s Chad Simmons.

He’s set to visit Alabama for the Iron Bowl and Florida on Dec. 2. He is expected to use his remaining two visits, as well, according to Simmons.

Ricks was the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2024 class until he decided to reclassify earlier this month. He remains a consensus top-15 prospect in the 2023 class.

Alabama is considered the favorite for Ricks, but LSU has picked up some traction in the recruiting of the IMG Academy prospect. Florida remains in the mix and is likely to make Ricks a priority after whiffing on another five-star cornerback in Cormani McClain on Thursday.

LSU will hope it’s able to sway Ricks when he returns to Baton Rouge in December.

Elite LSU cornerback target reclassifies to 2023 recruiting class

Desmond Ricks, the No. 2 prospect in the 2024 class, will now sign during the current cycle.

One of the best prospects in the 2024 recruiting class is now one of the best prospects in the 2023 recruiting class.

On Saturday, five-star IMG Academy cornerback [autotag]Desmond Ricks[/autotag] is reclassifying and will sign with a program in the current recruiting cycle. Ricks was previously rated as the No. 2 prospect in the 2024 class and the highest-ranked non-quarterback, per the 247Sports Composite.

The lone Crystal Ball projection for Ricks is in favor of Florida State and Alabama is favored per the On3 RPM, but recently, the Tigers have been trending here. LSU is already on the verge of a top-five class, and landing a player like Ricks would likely put coach Brian Kelly’s group over the edge.

There’s currently no timetable for Ricks to announce a decision, as he said in his statement that he plans to take the next few months to mull things over.

Florida moves into top-10 recruiting ranking with pair of new commitments

Florida got the commitment of Bryce Thornton and former Ohio State commit Dijon Johnson, solidifying the secondary of the Gators.

The University of Florida moved into the top 10 of the 247Sports recruitment rankings on Thursday when a pair of safeties committed to the program.

To start the day, three-star safety Bryce Thornton announced he had chosen the Gators. He had 27 offers, according to 247Sports, and is ranked as the No. 45 safety in the class. His commitment helped Florida add strength to the secondary.

But the cherry on top came later in the day when four-star recruit Dijon Johnson elected to remain in his home state. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound safety, listed as a top-100 player and the No. 7 safety in the class on the 247Sports composite rankings, was previously an Ohio State commit before decommiting on July 30.

Johnson had 36 offers, according to 247Sports.

With those commitments, Florida moves into the top-10 recruiting rankings nationally and fourth in the SEC behind Alabama, Georgia and LSU, in that order. While the Gators lack the five-star commits of the Crimson Tide and the Bulldogs, they do have 17 four-star commits, more than Alabama and Georgia and the fourth-most in the country.

Four-star defensive back names LSU a finalist, sets commitment date

The Tigers made the final five for the top-100 prospect from Tampa.

LSU already has five players committed in its 2024 recruiting class — which currently ranks third in the nation — and coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] is making progress with an elite prospect from the Sunshine State.

[autotag]Tavoy Feagin[/autotag], a four-star defensive back from Carrollwood Day High School in Tampa, announced a top five that included the Tigers, in addition to Florida State, Clemson, Alabama and Miami. He also announced a commitment date of Nov. 20.

Feagin is the No. 73 overall recruit in the country and No. 6 safety, per the 247Sports Composite. He also possesses the ability to play at cornerback.

“For years people called LSU DBU, so I feel like I can continue that tradition and push what DBU stands for,” Feagin said of the Tigers, per On3. “When it comes to LSU most definitely has one of the best atmospheres in college football.”

Clemson is considered the favorite here. The Tigers hold two Crystal Ball predictions from 247Sports (including recruiting director Steve Wiltfong, who is currently 19 of 19 on predictions in the 2024 cycle). Clemson also leads the way on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine at 25.3%. LSU is given a 5.6% chance to land Feagin.

Kelly has a top-100 player from Florida committed in the 2023 cycle in Miami receiver [autotag]Jalen Brown[/autotag]. He will hope to add one in the 2024 cycle next month.

5-star 2024 cornerback set to visit LSU

One of the best players in the 2024 cycle will be on hand for the Tigers’ SEC opener on Saturday.

[autotag]Ellis Robinson IV[/autotag] is a 2024 five-star cornerback from Bradenton, Florida where he plays for national powerhouse IMG Academy.

Robinson is visiting Death Valley for the first SEC game of the season as the Tigers take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday Night. There aren’t many atmospheres in any sport that can match up to a night game in Baton Rouge. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] is hoping that atmosphere can sway Robinson’s college decision and take the Tigers to the top of his list.

Robinson is currently crystal balled to Georgia by 247Sports and Alabama is a 62% favorite to land him per On3. LSU currently has five commitments for the 2024 class, which ranks as the No. 3 class in the country.

LSU is currently 1-1 on the year after a heartbreaking loss to Florida State in week one and a huge win at home against Southern last week. Hopefully, Robinson will enjoy Baton Rouge so much that he will want to stay.

LSU makes the final three for four-star point guard Jizzle James

James is the son of former NFL star Edgerrin James.

[autotag]Jizzle James[/autotag] is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound point guard in the class of 2023. The four-star prospect and son of former NFL star Edgerrin James recently announced the final three schools he is considering committing to, and the Tigers made the list.

They join the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Coach [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag] has come into Baton Rouge firing on all cylinders as he has totally rebuilt the entire team for this season and he is now working on building the best class possible for next year. He recently got his first commitment for the 2023 class in four-star power forward Corey Chest from Branson, Missouri.

James plays for Olympia High School in Orlando. He averaged 25 points per game and five rebounds per game in 28 games played. The Titans finished last season 21-8 with a loss in the regional semifinals of the Florida 7A tournament.
