Texas among schools standing out for five-star QB Julian Lewis

Four teams have made a strong impression on Julian Lewis thus far.

Five-star quarterback Julian Lewis is already gaining substantial attention on the recruiting trail as a sophomore in high school.

The Class of 2026 signal-caller is viewed as a generational prospect. The future five-star led Carrolton High School to the 7A Georgia state title game in his first year as a starter.

Lewis wants to lock in with his future school sooner rather than later. He mentioned a target date for commitment being after his sophomore season.

Many of the top programs in the country are all in on Lewis. Four teams have made a strong impression on Lewis thus far.

“I still have a lot of schools on my list but I’m pretty confident Alabama, Texas, USC and Georgia will be on there when I do eventually cut things down.”

Steve Sarkisian has been able to fill up his quarterback room with immense talent in his three years at Texas. Lewis could be the next five-star in line to play for Sarkisian as a Longhorn.

LOOK: Arch Manning and Colton Vasek enjoying their Texas visit

Arch Manning and Texas are still working to flip the Oklahoma commit.

Texas hosted a few star-studded visitors over the weekend for its matchup against Iowa State. Five-star quarterback Arch Manning and four-star EDGE Colton Vasek spent some time together during the Longhorns’ 24-21 win over the Cyclones.

Steve Sarkisian and the Texas staff are not giving up its purist of Vasek despite his commitment to rival Oklahoma. Vasek had a front-row seat for Texas’ dismantling of Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl a week ago. Getting him on campus this weekend could signify that Vasek is still considering the Longhorns.

Manning is the unquestioned leader of Texas’ 2023 recruiting class. He has been highly vocal about getting other top talents to join him in the burnt orange.

Texas’ class currently sits at No. 6 in the nation according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. A potential flip of Vasek would provide a massive piece to the puzzle for the Longhorns.

First predictions for five-star quarterback Arch Manning come in favor of Texas

Texas seems to be in the lead for five-star quarterback Arch Manning.

Without ever releasing a top schools list as most recruits do, Arch Manning has whittled down to five by showing who he wants to visit. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas have all hosted the 2023 five-star quarterback. Some even twice.

And for such a high-profile recruitment, Manning and his family have been able to keep a tight circle. At the end of the day, the Manning family is the football royalty of all football royalty.

Some word was going to get out sooner rather than later, though, and some of the industry’s top reporters have begun to guess how Arch Madness ends.

On3 gave out five predictions as to where Manning ends up playing college football, with all being Texas. Confidence levels got as low as 30% but Eric Nahlin of Inside Texas went up to 75%.

There’s no doubt Steve Sarkisian and A.J. Milwee have put themselves in a good position.

With Manning scheduled to be in Austin for Oklahoma State, this is one of the biggest weekends the program has seen in a while. Texas has not recruited and signed a five-star quarterback since Garrett Gilbert but the weight of pulling Manning would be far higher.

Texas thought the 2023 cycle was off to a bang, landing a commitment from five-star running back Rueben Owens. After a decommitment, all eggs have been put in the Manning basket. Building around the quarterback could bring in one of the top recruiting classes in the country.

On the 247Sports composite, Manning is the No. 1 overall player in the country. It would make the second consecutive cycle Texas has been able to land the top player in the class.

And we all know how the last one ended up.

Quinn Ewers explains why top prospects keep leaving the state of Texas

Five-star QB Quinn Ewers was asked why all the high-rated prospects out of the state of Texas were leaving. You can see his answer here:

Texas has had a five-star recruit problem over the past few seasons. Since landing Caden Sterns and B.J. Foster in the 2018 class, the Longhorns have gone two for 26 on in-state five stars (with the class of 2022 pending).

Thank the Lord for Ja’Tavion Sanders and Jordan Whittington.

Quinn Ewers has the potential to be the biggest miss out of them all. The once Texas commit is now loyal to Ohio State. Rated a perfect 1.000 on the 247sports composite, no quarterback has achieved the ranking since Vince Young. A generational quarterback the Longhorns are going to miss out on again.

In a recent interview with 247Sports, Ewers was asked why all the high-rated prospects out of the state of Texas were leaving. Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma are all programs that have benefitted greatly from the state. Ewers’ answer was candid and understanding.

Probably because a Texas team hasn’t been in the running for a national championship in a little while. And I don’t know about other guys, but like me I just, I just want to compete at the highest, highest level. Obviously, one day they will get back there and it’ll be great. But right now, it’s just, I’m just tired seeing that happen.

2009 was the last time Texas was in the national championship. Nick Saban hoisted the crystal football, beginning his dynasty run. Since then, 2014 was the last time an in-state team sniffed a shot at a national championship.

Some argue TCU or Baylor deserved to be in the College Football Playoff, but Ohio State got in. Neither Texas nor Texas A&M has come close over the past decade.

For Ewers, going to Columbus will instantly give him the opportunity to compete for national championships. Ohio State has run the Big Ten over the past few years and been a borderline lock for the College Football Playoff.

Until Texas can prove they are contenders with Steve Sarkisian, nothing will change. Elite-level programs are going to come into the state and take the top prospects. Winning on the field will change everything.

WATCH: Five-star QB Maalik Murphy leads Serra to their first win of the season

Maalik Murphy is considered the quarterback of the future for Texas. Take a look at his highlights from his second career start for Serra.

Five-star prospect Maalik Murphy is considered the quarterback of the future for Texas. Steve Sarkisian is taking a flyer on a player who has very little experience as a starting quarterback. Murphy’s arm strength and size displayed at the 7v7 circuit and camps is what has drawn the most interest.

Serra had their second game of the season on Friday, another chance for Murphy to showcase his talents. After starting the season 0-1, Serra bounced back with a 12-6 overtime win over Chaminade.

Murphy once again did not have the best day on paper, going 12 of 30 with 166 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. His fourth-quarter touchdown extended the game before a rushing touchdown eventually won it for Serra.

Nick Harris of Horns247 was on site to watch Murphy and generously shared several highlights on Twitter. You can watch them below.

After two games this season, Murphy’s stat line improves to 30 of 62, with 418 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. The current five-star has only played two games as the starter and will have time to improve.

Sarkisian and Texas seem to have one of the most exciting quarterback projects in the country on their hands.
