Browns: Jimmy Haslam committed to upgrading First Energy Stadium

The stadium is in desperate need of repairs.

There have been rumors this offseason of the Cleveland Browns want to build a new stadium. However, on Tuesday the team released a statement about how Jimmy and Dee Haslam are committed to upgrading First Energy Stadium and the lakefront around it.

“Dee and Jimmy Haslam said Monday at the NFL Annual Meetings they remain committed to upgrading the Browns’ stadium — with the primary goal of renovating FirstEnergy Stadium in accordance with the City of Cleveland’s plans to upgrade waterfront area between Lake Erie and downtown.”

The current stadium is in rough shape after being built in a rush so that it could open in time for the 1999 season when the team returned. It will be interesting to see the plans and when the renovations begin or if they end up calling for a whole new stadium instead.

NFL will require fans to wear masks to attend games in 2020

The Cleveland Browns have not yet offered any decisions on if fans will be allowed to attend regular-season games at FirstEnergy Stadium in 2020. But if they do allow fans, those patrons will be wearing masks with no exception.

The NFL, via PR Director Brian McCarthy, announced on Wednesday that all fans attending any NFL game in any stadium must wear protective face coverings. The guidelines match local governance for COVID-19 pandemic procedures around the league’s 30 cities.

Expect an announcement soon from the Browns on fan procedures for FirstEnergy Stadium in the upcoming season.

Expect crowd noise pumped into broadcasts of games with no fans

Expect crowd noise pumped into broadcasts of games with no fans for the NFL and other pro sports leagues

Hopefully it never comes to this with the Cleveland Browns or the NFL, but if the team is forced to play in an empty stadium, it won’t be without noise for the fans watching at home. According to the Sports Business Journal, the broadcast networks have decided that they will inject artificial crowd noise into the telecast.

It might be crowd noise that the players on the field, or court or ice, could also hear while they’re competing. Or it could be a musical score or a sports version of a laugh track, based on what SBJ’s John Ourand heard from network producers.

“We are looking at more than just pumping in audio,” said Brad Zager, Fox Sports’ executive producer, executive vice president and head of production and operations. “We’re looking at trying to figure out how to score a game live. How do we make sure that we have something that sounds authentic?”

For a cavernous outdoor facility like FirstEnergy Stadium, the thought of hearing artificial crowd noise during a game seems very strange. Also, would the team be allowed to increase the volume when the opposing team has the ball, or in critical situations? There are a lot of kinks to get worked out for this (hopefully) hypothetical situation.

PODCAST: Did the Bills offense hand the Browns a win?

Buffalo Bills podcast following Week 10 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

The Buffalo Bills failed to defeat the Cleveland Browns, falling 19-16 in Cleveland to fall to 6-3 on the season. While at first glance, it’s easy to point the finger at kicker Stephen Haushcka for missing a game-tying field goal, the problem is much deeper, yet obvious.

For months, many of the Bills critics have questioned the Bills offense, with much push back from biased “Billievers” and Josh Allen apologists. If this game doesn’t change those opinions, nothing will. Poor clock management, conservative play-calling and key plays not extending drives were all a major part of this team’s misfortunes in Cleveland.
Daboll has been a figure who, if this Bills season goes south quick, could find himself as the scapegoat when it comes to appeasing the fan base at the end of the season. His play calling has seemingly limited this offenses potential, and does not look as explosive as it could. It has even led many to believe that Josh Allen isn’t the franchise quarterback that the team thought he was.
Fortunately for Buffalo, if there is anything positive to examine, the Bills are not down and out, and have the opportunity to build their cushion as the first Wild Card spot, although there are some teams beginning to catch up.
