LAFC is led by F Carlos Vela and the team has recently announced the signing of international stars F Gareth Bale and D Giorgio Chiellini waiting to join the club.

While they’ve added a few international studs, FC Dallas may have one of the USA’s most-talented players in F Jesus Ferreira. The 21-year-old is tied for the most goals in the MLS this season with 9.

FC Dallas also took the pitch last weekend, taking a 2-0 second-half lead on Austin FC yet drawing on the road. FC Dallas is 2-2-4 on the road this season and 1-3-1 in their last 5.

LAFC is absolutely the team to beat in the MLS right now. Even without Bale and company, they’re still the best team in the MLS. They’ve won 3 of their last 4 and are 4-1-1 at home over their last 6.

FC Dallas has been great this season and is deserving of a top-5 spot in the West, but on the road they’ve left quite a bit to be desired, going just 2-2-4. They’ve had as many or fewer expected goals in 6 of the 8 matches.

The opposite can be said for LAFC as they’ve had more expected goals in all but 1 game this season. Their record actually is a bit underwhelming considering how they’ve dominated games.

However, at this price, I’d still only place half a unit on the LAFC money line.

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN OVER 2.5 (-165).

FC Dallas is a scoring machine that plays a high-pressure style.

That style bit them a few times Saturday as Austin FC had 2 goals despite just 1.2 expected goals. FC Dallas has scored in 5 of 8 road games and has allowed goals in 6 of 8.

Against LAFC, it’ll be a tougher mission, but the attack of Ferreira and F Paul Arriola, who has 8 goals on the season, should be able to get the roadside on the board.

Similarly, LAFC has not been shut out at home and has been limited to just 1 goal in 2 of 9 home matches this season. They’ve been dominant at home, but at this value, I’d prefer to couple the 2 sides together.

The value on this line is why it’s only a lean. Given FC Dallas’ form as of late, this has become an attractive value. However, they’ve lost just 2 games outright, drawing 3 others.

FC Dallas has a 2-2-3 record on the road. Austin FC might be strong at home, but they’ve lost or drawn 4 of their last 6. They’re also 1-3-0 against top-6 teams in the Western Conference.

Dallas had a 9-game stretch earlier in the season without a loss and has one of the best defenses in the MLS. They’ve also had as many or more expected goals in all three of their recent losses.

Combine it all, and I think betting on Dallas just to not lose at this line has value. But, it’s not my favorite bet in the game.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (+115).

Both teams have dynamic offenses, but they also are among the best defenses in the league.

While Austin’s 29 goals in 15 games give the assumption they should be a scoring machine. They scored 10 in their first 2 games and have had 7 goals in their last 6.

Austin has averaged a goal per game (5 goals in 5 games) against West opponents that have allowed 17 or fewer goals.

FC Dallas ranks No. 1 in opponents’ goals in the conference. They have gone under this total in 7 of 15 games this season despite ranking fourth in goals in the West.

Given the defensive strengths and Austin’s inability to score against top defenses, the Under 2.5 (+115) at this plus-money value is worth a look.

There’s not much separating these sides. Colorado had a slow start to the season, giving up 3 goals against LAFC, but it has allowed just 2 goals since in 4 games.

As for FC Dallas, it has allowed just 3 goals in 5 games, so it has clearly had a dominant defense as well. Rapids G William Yarbrough has an 82.4% save rate this season, so Colorado should be able to limit Dallas’ offense, including star F/M Jesus Ferreira.

Dallas doesn’t have any big-time wins yet this season, having taken down Nashville and Portland, both teams outside the top 8 in the Western Conference.

The Rapids to win and/or draw at -135 is also a strong play given FC Dallas’ overrated resume.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (-140).

It’s a price to pay, but the defenses speak for themselves. Since facing LAFC, Colorado has given up 2 goals in 4 games. On the season, FC Dallas has allowed 3 goals in 5 games, while the Rapids have allowed 19 goals.

Both teams have scored 7 as well, so neither team is really abusing their opponent on the offensive side. Plus, FC Dallas has allowed a league-low 10 shots.

Sporting Kansas City 2, FC Dallas 1

BET on SPORTING KANSAS CITY (-200) as the better side should come out on top. Especially at home, Sporting should have an advantage.

While FC Dallas may be coming off a decisive victory, it’s much less impressive when you realize the Galaxy were without F Chicharito and F Jonathan dos Santos.

So far this season, Sporting has used their home-field advantage well, having yet to lose through eight games in front of their fans. They’ve won five of eight home matches and this should make their sixth win of the season at home.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 2.5 (-165) as it’s the far better bet on the total.

Sporting has had one of the best offenses in the league and ranks second in shots and third in goals in MLS. Also, Dallas ranks in the bottom half in save percentage.

Flip the script, and it helps the case even further. Dallas has a capable attack with 18 goals through 15 matches but has given up 23.

Combine the solid attacking presence from both sides and the Over makes the most sense.

BET on the GALAXY (-120) because they’re the better team and should get the job done at home.

Chicharito will be taking on one of the worst defenses in MLS. FC Dallas had given up 17 goals on the season and only three teams in the West have allowed more.

With only one player having scored more than 2 goals on the season, FC Dallas doesn’t have much attacking prowess.

That could help the Galaxy, who have also given up 17 goals but have managed to mitigate the impact by scoring just as often. While both teams may have stronger attacks than defenses, one has clearly proven to be better.

At -120, the Galaxy offer good value at home.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the UNDER 3.5 (-185) but be cautious due to the value being less than desirable. The Galaxy have not conceded more than 3 goals in a match this season.

In addition, the Galaxy have combined for 4 goals with their opponent in only one of the last nine matches. It’s risky to back the Under 2.5 (+135) on the more profitable alternate line, though.

Dallas’ 2-2 draw with Vancouver Sunday was the only time it combined for 4 or more goals in its last five outings.

Both of these teams can score but betting on 4 goals in an MLS match never feels like the smart play. I’d go with the Under 3.5 and even lean to the Under 2.5.

LAFC (-275) will cost you more than two and a half times your potential return, and that’s just too risky for a team with just one victory across its past seven matches. Big money line wagers like that are a losing strategy over the long haul.

Instead, I prefer LAFC TO WIN AND BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE (+150) as a much better value.

UNDER 3.5 (-155) is the play here. LAFC generally has some of the highest totals on the board, but its offense has cooled significantly. Los Angeles is averaging just 1.0 goals per game across its past seven outings and has been much better defensively with just 4 goals allowed across its last three matches.

For FC Dallas, it has scored just 4 goals in its previous five matches, including a 1-1 draw against Minnesota United FC Saturday.
