Falcon’s GM comfortable with former Georgia star Todd Gurley’s knee injuries

Atlanta Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff talks about newly signed former Georgia football running back Todd Gurley’s knee injuries.

Atlanta Falcons beat reporter Kelsey Conway recently spoke to the franchise’s general manager Thomas Dimitroff about newly signed running back Todd Gurley.

The former Georgia Bulldog recently signed a one-year contract worth $6m with the Falcons after being released earlier this year by the L.A. Rams.

Gurley was a two-time All-Pro in L.A. but after issues with arthritis in his previously injured left-knee, the team decided to move on from the 24-year old.

Unlike the Rams, the Falcons do not seem to be worried about Gurley’s injury history.

Dimitroff said:

He really takes care of his body well. We feel very comfortable with it. He’s a hard-charging runner and we’re counting on him being an excellent player for us.

Gurley being on just a one-year deal creates an easy out for Atlanta if he can’t meet expectations in 2020, but Falcons and UGA fans hope the Bulldog great can bounce back with a great season for Atlanta.

Panthers roast Falcons’ new uniforms on Twitter

While fans seem to be mostly receptive to the team’s new design, an NFC South rival is trolling Atlanta’s jersey renovation.

The Atlanta Falcons unveiled their highly-anticipated new uniforms on Wednesday morning, and the results have been mixed to say the least. While fans seem mostly receptive to the team’s new design, an NFC South rival is trolling Atlanta’s jersey renovation.

Here’s a video released by the Carolina Panthers’ Twitter account:

It’s a bold move for a team that finished last in the division in 2019, plus seems to be getting rid of most of its talent. We shall see who has the last laugh next season when these two rivals square off.

In the meantime, we’ll just leave this right here:

There have been many rumored leaks, but these photos do seem more legitimate than most of the previous ones. Even if the images really do reveal the Falcons’ new uniforms, we still don’t know what the helmet will be, assuming they change it at all.

Stay tuned for coverage of next Tuesday’s official unveiling.

Falcons finalize deal with RB Todd Gurley

Gurley’s contract has a $3.5 million base salary, with a $2 million signing bonus and another $500,000 in potential incentives

The Atlanta Falcons agreed in principle to a one-year deal with former Rams All-Pro running back Todd Gurley weeks ago, and finally signed him today.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Gurley’s contract has a $3.5 million base salary, with a $2 million signing bonus and another $500,000 in potential incentives:

Gurley, 25, has played in 73 games over his five-year career with the Rams. He’s rushed for 5,404 yards and 58 touchdowns, with another 2,090 receiving yards and 12 touchdown receptions.

The Falcons could still add a back in the draft, but Gurley’s signing took away the need that was created after Devonta Freeman’s release.

The Atlanta Falcons re-signed Grady Jarrett last season and the Pro Bowl defensive tackle has been stepping up as a leader ever since.

In an effort to give back during the outbreak of coronavirus, Jarrett is providing meals to first responders from the fire and police departments in Atlanta and Rockdale County, as reported by Fox 5 Atlanta.

Jarrett will give two meals per week for the entire month of April, saying he felt it was his duty:

“It’s technically not my job but I feel like it’s part of my duty being a big face in the city and being from Rockdale County,” said Jarrett. “I’m going to always try and serve where I can, especially in times of need.”

Back in October, Jarrett surprised a bullying victim and continues to do his part to better the community. Not to mention, the former fifth-round pick had the best season of his career in 2019.

Atlanta is lucky to have such a great player and person under contract for at least three more seasons.

Examining the contracts of WR Laquon Treadwell, LB LaRoy Reynolds

The Falcons added two more players to their roster over the weekend, agreeing to terms with wide receiver Laquon Treadwell and linebacker LaRoy Reynolds.

The Falcons added two more players to their roster over the weekend, agreeing to terms with wide receiver Laquon Treadwell and linebacker LaRoy Reynolds.

According to ESPN’s Vaughn McClure, Treadwell signed a one-year, $910,000 deal, but it will only count $750,000 against the cap in 2020. Reynolds’ is a one-year, $1,050,000 million contract that will also count for just $750,000 against the cap this season:

Checking in on the Falcons’ cap figure at Over The Cap, it looks like the team has about $13.83 million, however, the contracts of Dante Fowler Jr. and Todd Gurley are not yet figured into that number, meaning Atlanta will again be fighting the cap this season.

General manager Thomas Dimitroff has already restructured the contracts of Matt Ryan and Jake Matthews, and don’t be surprised to see a few more Falcons players doing the same before the 2020 draft.
