Panthers take majority of Week 12 expert picks

Most of the experts think the Panthers will have a reason to jump for joy here in Week 12.

The Carolina Panthers have already found themselves, for all intents and purposes, in must-win territory here in Week 12. So, will that light a hotter fire under these cats in their push towards the postseason?

Let’s see what the experts think.

USA TODAY: Panthers

Six of the seven picks over at USA TODAY Sports land with the Panthers. Four of those picks see Carolina pulling it off with a close, one-possession edge.

ESPN: Panthers

Carolina gets another pick-six (see what we did there?). But with ESPN having a slate of 10 experts, the concentration is a bit more skewed towards the middle.

Pro Football Talk: Panthers

Mike Florio and Michael David Smith side with the visitors. Florio goes 27-21 on the scoreboard while Smith says 24-14.

CBS Sports: Panthers

It’s a scintillating six again for the Panthers, with two in favor of the Dolphins.

MMQB: Panthers

Four of the five Monday Morning Quarterbacks (Quarterbackers?) go with Carolina. Conor Orr accounts for Miami’s lone supporter.

The Panthers take each publication. Overall, it’s a 24-8 tally.

Colts vs. Bucs: NFL experts make Week 12 picks

See who the experts around the league are picking in the Week 12 matchup between the Colts and Bucs.

The Indianapolis Colts (6-5) are preparing for one of their biggest matchups of the season when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-3) come to Lucas Oil Stadium for a Week 12 bout.

As the Colts look to stay in the hunt for a wild-card spot, they’ll be doing so against arguably the best team in the NFL. Tom Brady and the Buccaneers are 3.5-point road favorites in this matchup despite the Colts’ recent surge with five wins in their last six games.

Here’s how the experts around the league see this Week 12 matchup shaking out:

Expert Pick Score (if applicable)
Nate Davis (USA TODAY) Buccaneers 24-23
Mike Jones (USA TODAY) Colts 28-26
Jarrett Bell (USA TODAY) Buccaneers 28-24
Mike Clay (ESPN) Buccaneers N/A
Gregg Rosenthall (NFL Network) Buccaneers 30-24
Vinnie Iyer (Sporting News) Buccaneers 28-24
Dave Richard (CBS Sports) Buccaneers N/A
Pete Prisco (CBS Sports) Buccaneers 28-20
Luke Easterling (Bucs Wire) TBD TBD
Cam DaSilva (Sportsbook Wire) Buccaneers N/A
Bleacher Report Buccaneers 28-24

With the Buccaneers being favorites in the eyes of Vegas and the fact that they’ve mostly played up to their standard this season, it shouldn’t be a surprise the experts are feeling the same way. According to Tallysight, 84% of the featured analysts are siding with the Bucs to take a road victory as of this writing.

Even after the Colts dominated the Buffalo Bills in a 41-15 upset in Orchard Park, most are still siding with the Bucs. As Colts fans know, it’s hard to objectively bet against Brady.

It will be interesting to see how this game shakes out but entering the weekend, the experts are mostly taking the Bucs to continue their dominance.

LSU vs Texas A&M: Who are the experts picking to win

Who are the experts going with?

It all comes down to this. The final regular-season game in the Ed Orgeron era. Last week against ULM, Orgeron became the fourth coach in school history to win 50 games. His overall LSU record sitting at 50-20, can he get to win No. 51 on Saturday night?

To do it, the LSU Tigers will need to beat Texas A&M and Jimbo Fisher. The former LSU assistant has been linked to the job opening ever since week one following the loss to UCLA. In 2017 the Aggies lost at UCLA to begin that season and ended up with Fisher as their head coach after the season. Wouldn’t that be something? To do it again? Not likely but with Fisher in town, perfect timing for his friend Scott Woodward to interview him.

The Aggies are currently 8-3 and could easily get to 10 wins after the LSU game and their bowl. The Tigers are 5-6 and a victory could help avoid their first losing season since 1999. Following that campaign over 20 years ago they fired their head coach. Orgeron has already been given his walking papers and looks to avoid setting another historic marker in LSU history. But can they do it?

We look at how the experts see it:

Who the experts are taking in Washington vs. Panthers

Who are the experts taking in Washington’s Week 11 battle vs. Carolina?

One of the more interesting matchups of Week 11 happens at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Sunday afternoon. That’s where the Carolina Panthers (5-5) host the Washington Football Team (3-6) in a critical NFC battle.

If you read the standings and see Washington sitting three games under .500 and wonder how this game is important, then you haven’t glanced at the NFC playoff picture. Currently, Washington is on the outside looking in for the final wild-card position but has eight games remaining.

Both teams picked up impressive wins last week, with the Panthers taking down the Cardinals while Washington upset the Buccaneers.

This game will feature the return of quarterback Cam Newton to starting lineup for the Panthers. Newton signed two weeks ago after an injury to Sam Darnold and returns to the place where he was a superstar for a decade.

On paper, the Panthers appear to be the better team. Carolina’s defense is No. 2 in the NFL, which is where Washington expected to be before the season. The Panthers also have running back Christian McCaffrey back.

So, do the experts think the Panthers are the team to beat in this game?

According to NFL Pickwatch, 80% of pickers think the Panthers win this one. But what does that really mean? After all, 99% of those picking games chose the Bucs over Washington in Week 10.

Yet, Washington dominated the defending Super Bowl champs.

Expert Picks: College football world split on decision between No. 3 Oregon and No. 23 Utah

It’s not an even split, but expert pickers are largely up in the air when it comes to picking a winner between No. 3 Oregon and No. 23 Utah on Saturday.

With a big game on tap, we always want to try and crowdsource a little bit in order to get the temperature of the room.

Here at Ducks Wire, we feel that we have a pretty good grasp on exactly who this Oregon team really is, and what they’re capable of. However, this late in the season, it is easy to get tunnel vision and start to only see things from your perspective. Are we missing anything major because we are too close to the Ducks? What does the college football world think about Oregon at large? How worried should we be about Utah on Saturday?

To get a better sense of things, we went to the expert pickers at College Football News to see who everyone is rolling with. Here are the results:

11 Expert Picks
Oregon Ducks: 7 Picks
Utah Utes: 4 Picks
Consensus: Oregon

It’s not shocking to see the crowd leaning towards the Ducks, since they are the higher-ranked team with a more talented roster. However, the point spread for this game favors Utah, and ESPN’s FPI predictor gives Oregon just a 38% chance to win this game.

Should the Ducks come out on top, they will clinch a return trip to the Pac-12 Championship Game, and have a solid shot to make it back to the College Football Playoffs for the first time since 2014. If they lose, their CFP chances are shot, and they will have to play Oregon State next week with the winner likely going on to the Pac-12 title game.

Pretty significant stakes, if you ask me.

So will the experts turn out to be right in the end? Only time will tell. Kick-off is set for Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. PT, airing on ABC.

LSU vs ULM: Staff predictions and expert picks for Tigers-Warhawks

Staff predictions: LSU a lot, ULM not a lot

With LSU and ULM set to kick off on Saturday night down on the Bayou, we give our predictions for the game.

Lance Dawe, Contributor

LSU handles business against a ULM team that is on a bit of a slide. Will there be offensive bumps in the road with Max Johnson? Probably. But not enough to give the Warhawks a chance to win.

LSU 45, ULM 6

Patrick Conn, Site Editor

Looking at this matchup, it just looks like an opportunity to work some things out for the LSU Tigers. Their offense needs to build some confidence based on the last few weeks. In the last three games, the Tigers have the 124th-ranked offense in points per play, 0.189. With Nussmeier redshirting, it will be up to Johnson to get them back on track.

LSU 38, ULM 3

We take a look at who the experts are picking in this game.

Texas vs. West Virginia: Who the experts are picking to win

Tipico Sportsbook views West Virginia as the slight favorite over Texas.

Who the experts are taking in Washington vs. Buccaneers

As you might expect, the majority doesn’t believe Washington has a chance vs. Tampa Bay.

The Washington Football Team (2-6) has a monumental task in front of them on Sunday when the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-2) come to FedEx Field.

Can Washington pull off the upset?

Washington has lost four consecutive games, but there have been signs of hope in recent weeks. Unfortunately for head coach Ron Rivera, his team can’t put forth an effort where all three units perform consistently during the same game.

The week off came at the right time, as several Washington players entered the bye week hobbled. While Washington won’t return all of its injured starters on Sunday vs. the Bucs, All-Pro right guard Brandon Scherff and starting cornerback William Jackson III will be back.

What does that mean for Washington?

Not much, according to the folks at NFL Pickwatch. Over 99% of the expert pickers believe the Buccaneers defeat Washington in Week 10. The next closest consensus is 95% of the pickers think the Bills beat the Jets.

Of course, it doesn’t matter who anyone picks. As we saw last week when two massive underdogs won, anything can happen in the NFL.

LSU vs Arkansas: Staff predictions and expert picks

Who are the experts picking to win?

The LSU Tigers are one step closer to bowl eligibility, all they have to do is win ‘The Boot’ on Saturday.

Getting to the needed six wins didn’t seem that far away just five weeks ago, but since that time LSU is 1-4. During that same stretch, the once-hot Arkansas Razorbacks are just one game better at 2-3. Last week against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, the Hogs became bowl eligible with a three-point victory.

Given what is on the table, can LSU and head coach Ed Orgeron come away victorious? Orgeron is a perfect 5-0 against Arkansas. A look at how the staff and industry experts expect this game to go on Saturday Night in Death Valley.

Colts vs. Jaguars: NFL experts make Week 10 picks

NFL experts make their Week 10 picks for the Colts and Jaguars.

The Indianapolis Colts (4-5) are set to host the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-6) at Lucas Oil Stadium for a Week 10 divisional matchup.

Entering the weekend, the Colts are heavy favorites for this matchup at home in what will be the first meeting with the Jaguars and rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Here’s how the experts around the league are picking this matchup:

Expert Pick Score (if applicable)
Nate Davis (USA TODAY) Colts 31-16
Mike Jones (USA TODAY) Colts 24-16
Jarrett Bell (USA TODAY) Colts 27-17
Mike Clay (ESPN) Colts N/A
Gregg Rosenthall (NFL Network) Colts 33-17
Vinnie Iyer (Sporting News) Colts 31-17
Dave Richard (CBS Sports) Colts N/A
Pete Prisco (CBS Sports) Colts 21-14
Jay Johnson (Jaguars Wire) TBD TBD
Cam DaSilva (Sportsbook Wire) Colts N/A
Bleacher Report Colts 31-16

It shouldn’t be a shock that the Colts are heavy favorites for this divisional matchup. Both teams may be under .500 but the Colts are the better team and should be expected to win this matchup.

It will be interesting to see how the secondary holds up against the rookie in Lawrence, who has yet to enjoy a breakout game.

As long as the Colts don’t do too much to hurt themselves, they should walk away with a divisional win.
