4 Philadelphia 76ers named to most overpaid players in NBA history list

Four players in Philadelphia 76ers history have been named to the most overpaid players list in NBA history.

How much money NBA players make is a debate that rages among fans on an everyday basis. The fan base of every team discusses how much money a certain player makes and whether he actually deserves the contract he has.

The Philadelphia 76ers are not immune to that debate.

The folks over at HoopsHype have put together a metric to measure such issues. The real value metric was developed by HoopsHype analyst Alberto De Roa. In a recent HoopsHype article, authors Sam Yip Frank Urbina sorted the top 30 overpaid players in NBA history in terms of their real value.

There are four players on the list who have ties to the Sixers and they are:

Evan Turner on getting signed away from the Boston Celtics by a $70 million deal from the Portland Trail Blazers

Turner securing a massive deal from the Portland Trail Blazers has become emblematic of the TV money spending spree era.

The summer of 2016 will forever be known among NBA historians as the offseason league general managers went on an unprecedented spending spree, fueled by the influx of money from the Association’s new TV deal.

Boston Celtics roleplayer Evan Turner was among the biggest beneficiaries of that spending. He secured a massive deal from the Portland Trail Blazers that has become emblematic of that era.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Swish Cultures “Role Player” podcast, Turner broke down what life was like for him after he accepted that $70 million, four-season deal.

Take a look for yourself at the clip embedded above to hear it from the man himself.

HoopsHype’s most overpaid player list includes nine former Boston Celtics

Let’s dive into where alumni of the Boston Celtics appear on this list.

There is a good case to be made that with the advent of the NBA salary cap players are actually underpaid. In the context of that cap, however, quite a few players earned more than the value they brought to their clubs. The Boston Celtics are not excluded from that reality.

The folks over at HoopsHype have put together a metric to try to measure such things. The real value metric was developed by HoopsHype analyst Alberto De Roa. In a recent H/H article, authors Sam Yip and Frank Urbina sorted the top 30 players who have fleeced teams in terms of their real value.

Let’s dive into where former Celtics appear on this list.

Andre Iguodala recalls growth with Sixers in final visit to Philadelphia

Former Philadelphia 76ers star Andre Iguodala recalls his growth with the franchise in his final visit to his original NBA home.

PHILADELPHIA–Andre Iguodala paid his final visit to the Wells Fargo Center on Friday as a member of the Golden State Warriors as he plays out the final season of a very successful 19-year NBA career. Iguodala has yet to make his season debut in 2022-23 due to a hip injury.

The 38-year-old out of Arizona was the 9th pick of the 2004 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers and he spent the first eight seasons of his career with the franchise. It could be split up into two parts between his time with Allen Iverson and his time after Iverson was traded.

When Iverson was still with the franchise, Iguodala was a kid learning the ropes of the game, but once The Answer was traded, that was when he had to grow up and take steps forward.

Iguodala discussed his time and his growth with the Sixers on Friday:

Every player in Philadelphia 76ers history who has worn No. 12

Here is a list of all 30 players who have worn the No. 12 uniform in the history of the Philadelphia 76ers.

It’s summertime in the NBA, so it’s time to learn some history. The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the older franchises in the NBA. Their history dates to the 1949-50 season.

With that longevity, the team has had hundreds of players come through the City of Brotherly Love. Sixers Wire looks at the No. 13, which has been worn by 30 of those players in the history of the franchise.

This running series will go through all of the uniform numbers worn in franchise history. The previous edition of this series was a list compiling the five players who have worn the No. 13.

Here is the list of the 30 who have worn No. 12 in Sixers history:

WATCH: Boston Celtics alumnus Evan Turner interrupts Jayson Tatum’s presser after Lakers win

ET phoned home, literally.

After the Boston Celtics‘ 130 – 108 home statement win over the Los Angeles Lakers Friday evening, there were a lot of smiling faces in the Celtics locker room, and a few beloved Celtics alumni managed to join the team courtside — Hall of Famers Bill Russell and Paul Pierce were in attendance — with one former Celtic even making an unscripted appearance during All-Star forward Jayson Tatum’s postgame media availability session.

That would of course be former Boston wing and (last season) assistant coach Evan Turner, who had some jokes for the Celtics faithful that involved coming for the job of yet another Celtics alumnus not present to defend himself.

To see what Turnter was joking about, check out the video from the presser embedded below, courtesy of our friends over at CLNS Media’s YouTube channel.

On this day: Celtics Carlisle, Turner, Morgan born; Tsioropoulos debut; Beenders passed

On this day in Boston Celtics history, Rick Carlisle, Evan Turner, and Rex Morgan were born, Lou Tsioropoulos debuted, and Hank Beenders passed away.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, small forward and current Indiana Pacers head coach Richard “Rick” Preston Carlisle was born in Ogdensburg, New York in 1959. Carlisle played his college ball with the Universities of Maine and Virginia, leading the latter to a Final Four loss to Hakeem Olajuwon’s Houston Cougars in 1984.

The former Cavalier would be selected 70th overall in the 1984 NBA draft (there were several more rounds in that era), and would go on to win a title with the team in 1986 in a reserve role before being waived by the team in the fall of 1987.

Carlisle averaged 2.2 points and an assist per game as a Celtic.

Evan Turner won’t be back as an assistant for the Celtics, but he enjoyed his time with the team

The fan favorite player and assistant coach is moving on after the offseason shake-up.

The second Evan Turner era of the Boston Celtics was a brief one, with Forbes Sports’ Chris Grenham writing that the former Celtics player turned assistant coach is among those on Boston’s coaching staff not making the cut for new head coach Ime Udoka’s staff of assistants.

“I was going back to a place I was very fond of,” Turner said of his return to the Celtics in a recent interview with Grenham. “I had good memories in Boston.” A fan favorite in his time as a player, and a media favorite for his postgame comments, Turner was excited for his “super-duper internship” in assistant coaching at the start of the 2020-21 season.

But fate had other plans for Turner, with his comparatively short tenure as a Celtics assistant ended by the tumult in an otherwise amazingly stable front office erasing his position with the team.

Ohio State Basketball welcomes back former Buckeyes for Hoops Pro Week

Many former Ohio State players are in Columbus for the Hoops Pro Week helping teach the basketball team what it means to be a Buckeye.

The Ohio State basketball team welcomed back some former players for their Hoops Pro Week. It’s a time when hoopers from hardwood past ascend on Columbus to reconnect and help the current team understand what it means to be a Buckeye.

In attendance are former star players Evan Turner, John Diebler, D’Angelo Russell, Jae’sean Tate, Keita Bates-Diop, Aaron Craft, and more. While in town,  the veterans are helping the young guys with skills, pick up games, and what it takes to be a winner.

Aaron Craft is pleased with what he’s seeing from the current group.

“Just being here for two days, we’ve seen that their expectations, they’re willing to work for. So, I love the group they’ve put together, the work ethic they have. I love the coaching staff, so hopefully we can keep building and find a way to put another banner up.” Craft said

While there, many of the former players decided to try on some of the new threads and suited up for a photoshoot. Those scarlet script Buckeyes and powder grays from the 90s sure do look sharp. Take a look below at how some of your past favorites would look in today’s uniforms.

Evan Turner shares how he put Kelly Olynyk on the hot seat in the GOAT point guard debate

With a bit of luck on his side, the former Celtic wing and current team assistant had a secret weapon to boost his case.

Former Boston Celtics shooting guard and current assistant coach Evan Turner is known for his wild stories as much as he is his on-court play and coaching skills. And, for that reason, the hosts of the new, Celtics team-produced podcast “The View From the Rafters: Behind the Scenes with the Boston Celtics” had ET on the pod to regale listeners with some of those nuggets of Boston lore.

True to his reputation, Turner delivered, with everything from new takes on the truck-in-his-pool story to why Brad Stevens doesn’t exactly deserve the “aw, shucks” rep he gets. But for us, our favorite tale he shared on the pod was the creative way he got teammate Kelly Olynyk to eat crow in a G.O.A.T. debate.

“We’re arguing on the bus about the best point guards,” began Turner.
