The center position has been a major topic of controversy amongst Spartan fans and media alike. A member of that group is Carson Cooper, and the sophomore is sneakily having an elite season defensively.

Shared by Justin Spiro, with the stats courtesy of Evan Miya analytics, showed that Cooper is one of the best defenders in the Big Ten this season.

Bayesian Performance Rating quantifies how effective a team or player is, using advanced box-score metrics, play-by-play data and historical information.

Cooper ranks No. 1 in the Big Ten for overall defense, No. 16 overall combining offense and defensive and is No. 5 in how well the team plays when he is on the court.

Needless to say, maybe it is time for Cooper to shoulder the load at center.

Why Wisconsin will be among the most battle tested teams come March

Evan Miya lists several Badgers among those who have played against the toughest competition this season using his BPR metric.

Everyone knows that making a run in the NCAA tournament usually comes down to which teams are playing their best ball coming into March.

That’s why it’s so important for programs to see a wide variety of teams throughout the season to prepare them for what lies ahead.

Thankfully for a team like Wisconsin, playing in a gauntlet like the Big Ten helps prepare your program for just about anything come postseason play.

As Greg Gard has frequently stated, there are no “get right” games in the Big Ten, knowing full well you can’t take nights off and still expect to win in this league.

Using his BPR metric, Evan Miya broke down which players have faced the strongest oppositions this season, based on the average BPR of opponents players they’ve faced on a possession to possession basis.

On this list you’ll notice all five Badgers starters listed among the top 30: Davis (11), Wahl (13), Crowl (16), Hepburn (17), and Davison (22).

This should come as almost no surprise given the level of competition the Badgers consistently face, coupled with the heavy minutes being played by Wisconsin’s starting five.

One thing is for sure, this team will be battle tested and well positioned to make a run in the tournament come March.

Evan Miya lists two Badgers among the most impactful players of the last decade

Analytics savant Evan Miya lists two former Badgers among the most impactful players of the last decade.

According to analytics savant Evan Miya, two former Badgers were among the most impactful players of the last decade using his BPR metric.

This metric measures a players overall impact using a number of factors, such as their individual statistics, impact on the team’s success when they’re on the court, and other historical data.

The Badgers dynamic duo of Frank Kaminsky (12), and Sam Dekker (14) both made the list for their impressive performances during the 2014-15 season.

Frank the tank won the National Player of the Year award that season while posting a season stat line of 18.8 points per game, 8.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.5 blocks while shooting 41% from beyond the arc.

Dekker had an unforgettable run in March that cemented his legacy at Wisconsin forever. As a junior he posted a season stat line of 13.9 points per game, 5.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists on an efficient 52% from the floor that season.

Per KenPom, Wisconsin’s adjusted offensive efficiency of (129.0) in the 2014-15 season is still the most efficient offense in college basketball history since the metric has been recorded. It only makes sense that the two best players on said offense would make Evan Miya’s list of most impactful players.
