LOOK: Dan Lanning throws some shade at ‘College GameDay’ crew for picking BYU

Dan Lanning is all about blocking out the noise from national media members. He had some time to be petty after beating BYU, though.

Many coaches repeatedly say that they don’t pay attention to any of the noise outside of their locker room. Dan Lanning himself said after the game on Saturday — a 41-20 win for the Ducks over the then-No. 14 BYU Cougars — that there aren’t any opinions outside of the program that mean much to him and his team.

However, the Ducks’ first-year head coach poked a little bit of fun at some of those opinions after his team’s statement win against a really good Cougars team.

If you were paying attention earlier in the morning, the crew on ESPN’s “College GameDay” made their weekly picks for the top slate of games in the nation. When it came to BYU and Oregon, the only guy to pick the Ducks was guest picker Luke Combs, a country music star.

Lanning took note of that.

Of course, it needs to be mentioned that while Kirk Herbstreit’s graphic shows that he picked BYU, he actually ended up taking the Ducks, and the production crew just made a slight mistake. However, the point still stands that a majority of the experts sided with the Cougars, and they ended up being wrong.

And the Ducks now have a coach that is willing to let it be known. I love that.

Luke Combs had the most savage message for Texas A&M: ‘I appreciate the million and a half dollar donation to my alma mater’

Texas A&M fans are never going to live this down.

This has been quite a rough week for Texas A&M football. Obviously, it all starts with the loss to Appalachian State that came last weekend.

A&M paid Appalachian State $1.5 million to play against them and they lost. That’s straight-up embarrassing.

But the worst part is that Appalachian State fans refuse to ever let them live it down with their wild posters. Three students even won free tuition off basically embarrassing A&M with their signs on ESPN’s College GameDay, which they also stole from the Aggies.

If all that wasn’t enough, for good measure, ESPN’s College GameDay brought on Country music singer Luke Combs to be their special guest picker and he had a message for Texas A&M that will probably leave fans seething.

The crew was picking the Texas A&M vs. Miami game and Combs said he was definitely riding with A&M. Why? Take a listen.

“Jimbo [Fischer], Texas A&M … I appreciate the million and a half dollar donation to my alma mater. I’m riding with Texas A&M at home. Let’s go, baby.”

Bruuuuuuuh. That absolutely has to hurt. A&M fans have to be salty. They just have to be.

I’m sure, at this point, A&M fans want to get over the game. But at the rate we’re going? This feels like it’ll be a thing all season long. Get ready, Aggie fans. The jokes are coming.

‘Be careful;’ Kirk Herbstreit warns against people writing off the Ducks after slow start to season

“Be careful. Autzen is still Autzen, and this defense with Dan Lanning is still real. Oregon might remind you that they know how to play football today.”

For a majority of the Oregon Ducks fan base, it has been a relatively frustrating start to the 2022 season. The first game of the year saw a blowout loss to the defending champions, and while the second game resulted in a blowout win over an FCS school, everyone is still looking to see who this Oregon team really is, and how good they can be under new head coach Dan Lanning.

While they looked good a week ago, the season-opening loss did a good job of throwing the national media off of the scent, so to speak. Rarely do you hear the Ducks in any conversations about the best teams in the Pac-12, let alone the nation. That’s what makes this game against No. 14 BYU so important.

On ESPN’s College GameDay Saturday morning, Kirk Herbstreit offered a word of advice to any doubters out there that think Oregon isn’t a good college football team.

“Dan Lanning will find a way to get his boys to show up,” Herbstreit said. “I think everyone forgot that Oregon still plays football after Week 1 when they got embarrassed by Georgia.  Be careful. Autzen is still Autzen, and this defense with Dan Lanning is still real. You have Noah Sewell and Justin Flowe in the middle. I’m just saying, Oregon might remind you that they know how to play football today.”

That belief was reflected in Herbstreit’s pick on GameDay, where he was one of only two pickers to side with the Ducks.

“I’m going with Dan Lanning, a team that everyone’s forgotten about after their debacle against Georgia. Their defense in Autzen I think could be the difference.”

Expert Picks: ESPN College GameDay crew picks Oregon vs. BYU game

It was a split decision on College GameDay, with 3 picks for BYU, and two picks for the Ducks.

After being off the national radar for a week following their season-opening loss, the Oregon Ducks are back in the spotlight once again. With a chance to prove how good they really are against the No. 14 ranked BYU Cougars, the No. 24 ranked Ducks will look to take advantage of that opportunity.

The Ducks have won 20 straight games at Autzen Stadium, and bring one of the best home records in the nation into Saturday’s game. That may not mean much to their opponent, though, who is coming off of a double-overtime win over the No. 9 Baylor Bears last weekend.

The public is pretty split on this game, with Oregon, the lower-ranked team, favored to beat BYU by 3.5 points. On ESPN’s College GameDay, the crew made their picks as they do every week. Here’s where they all landed:

These 3 App State students just got free tuition from ESPN College GameDay because of their awesome signs

They put some Texas A&M tears to really good use.

It seemed a bit strange at first that literally all of the ESPN College GameDay posters available to students ahead of Saturday’s show disappeared so quickly.

It all makes sense now, though.

It turns out there was a GameDay sign competition where, if someone made a good enough sign, they could win free tuition for the year. Obviously, a lot of the students who pulled up to the set really came with it — especially when it came to making fun of Texas A&M. They were awesome.

So it makes sense that ESPN couldn’t pick just one winner. They picked 3. And they gave them this really cool moment, too.

That’s awesome stuff, man. These signs literally made these folks’ years. And all it took was for their football team to take $1.5 million from Texas A&M. We absolutely love to see it.

ESPN announces Week 3 destination for College GameDay

Where is ESPN’s College GameDay going in Week 3? A decision has been made.

There may have been a pretty decent chance ESPN would be sending its storied pregame show to Penn State’s road game at Auburn in Week 3, but the events of Week 2 likely carried some significant influence on ESPN’s plans next week.

ESPN announced CollegeGameDay will be broadcasting live from Boone, North Carolina on the campus of Appalachian State. Appalachian State is coming off a signature victory in Week 2 with a road win at Texas A&M. A week after losing an incredibly entertaining shootout against North Carolina, the Mountaineers will now get a chance to be at the center of the college football universe, at least for a few hours. Appalachian State is set to host Troy in what should be a major matchup in the Sun Belt Conference.

The announcement comes on a milestone day for the Sun Belt Conference. In addition to Appalachian State’s upset victory at No. 6 Texas A&M, Marshall pulled a major upset at No. 8 Notre Dame. And in the primetime schedule, Georgia Southern upended Nebraska in a high-scoring affair. It was, arguably, the best day in the history of the Sun Belt Conference, and now one of its perennial contenders will get a chance to host College GameDay.

Penn State and Auburn are set to play in the SEC Game of the Week on CBS in Week 3. Kickoff is set for the traditional CBS timeslot of 3:30 p.m. ET. Both teams will be entering the game with 2-0 records. Penn State improved to 2-0 with a blowout at home against Ohio while Auburn had a more difficult time against San Jose State.

Pat McAfee set to join ESPN’s College GameDay

ESPN is reeling in Pat McAfee for its College GameDay

Pat McAfee is going to be one busy person this fall.

The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand reported Tuesday that McAfee will be joining the cast of ESPN’s “College Gameday” starting this Saturday when the show is in Austin for Alabama vs Texas.

Update: McAfee is off SmackDown to work on “College GameDay.”

McAfee wouldn’t confirm the news to the Post but tweeted about  it:

McAfee also has a daily show that appears on Youtube. He recently parted ways with Sirius with that program.

He has a $120 million deal with FanDuel over four years. It bears watching whether FanDuel will look to slot the show into its newly launched FanDuel TV, which was previously known as TVG, a horse racing network.
