LOOK: Dan Lanning throws some shade at ‘College GameDay’ crew for picking BYU

Dan Lanning is all about blocking out the noise from national media members. He had some time to be petty after beating BYU, though.

Many coaches repeatedly say that they don’t pay attention to any of the noise outside of their locker room. Dan Lanning himself said after the game on Saturday — a 41-20 win for the Ducks over the then-No. 14 BYU Cougars — that there aren’t any opinions outside of the program that mean much to him and his team.

However, the Ducks’ first-year head coach poked a little bit of fun at some of those opinions after his team’s statement win against a really good Cougars team.

If you were paying attention earlier in the morning, the crew on ESPN’s “College GameDay” made their weekly picks for the top slate of games in the nation. When it came to BYU and Oregon, the only guy to pick the Ducks was guest picker Luke Combs, a country music star.

Lanning took note of that.

Of course, it needs to be mentioned that while Kirk Herbstreit’s graphic shows that he picked BYU, he actually ended up taking the Ducks, and the production crew just made a slight mistake. However, the point still stands that a majority of the experts sided with the Cougars, and they ended up being wrong.

And the Ducks now have a coach that is willing to let it be known. I love that.

Luke Combs had the most savage message for Texas A&M: ‘I appreciate the million and a half dollar donation to my alma mater’

Texas A&M fans are never going to live this down.

This has been quite a rough week for Texas A&M football. Obviously, it all starts with the loss to Appalachian State that came last weekend.

A&M paid Appalachian State $1.5 million to play against them and they lost. That’s straight-up embarrassing.

But the worst part is that Appalachian State fans refuse to ever let them live it down with their wild posters. Three students even won free tuition off basically embarrassing A&M with their signs on ESPN’s College GameDay, which they also stole from the Aggies.

If all that wasn’t enough, for good measure, ESPN’s College GameDay brought on Country music singer Luke Combs to be their special guest picker and he had a message for Texas A&M that will probably leave fans seething.

The crew was picking the Texas A&M vs. Miami game and Combs said he was definitely riding with A&M. Why? Take a listen.

“Jimbo [Fischer], Texas A&M … I appreciate the million and a half dollar donation to my alma mater. I’m riding with Texas A&M at home. Let’s go, baby.”

Bruuuuuuuh. That absolutely has to hurt. A&M fans have to be salty. They just have to be.

I’m sure, at this point, A&M fans want to get over the game. But at the rate we’re going? This feels like it’ll be a thing all season long. Get ready, Aggie fans. The jokes are coming.

‘Be careful;’ Kirk Herbstreit warns against people writing off the Ducks after slow start to season

“Be careful. Autzen is still Autzen, and this defense with Dan Lanning is still real. Oregon might remind you that they know how to play football today.”

For a majority of the Oregon Ducks fan base, it has been a relatively frustrating start to the 2022 season. The first game of the year saw a blowout loss to the defending champions, and while the second game resulted in a blowout win over an FCS school, everyone is still looking to see who this Oregon team really is, and how good they can be under new head coach Dan Lanning.

While they looked good a week ago, the season-opening loss did a good job of throwing the national media off of the scent, so to speak. Rarely do you hear the Ducks in any conversations about the best teams in the Pac-12, let alone the nation. That’s what makes this game against No. 14 BYU so important.

On ESPN’s College GameDay Saturday morning, Kirk Herbstreit offered a word of advice to any doubters out there that think Oregon isn’t a good college football team.

“Dan Lanning will find a way to get his boys to show up,” Herbstreit said. “I think everyone forgot that Oregon still plays football after Week 1 when they got embarrassed by Georgia.  Be careful. Autzen is still Autzen, and this defense with Dan Lanning is still real. You have Noah Sewell and Justin Flowe in the middle. I’m just saying, Oregon might remind you that they know how to play football today.”

That belief was reflected in Herbstreit’s pick on GameDay, where he was one of only two pickers to side with the Ducks.

“I’m going with Dan Lanning, a team that everyone’s forgotten about after their debacle against Georgia. Their defense in Autzen I think could be the difference.”

Who do you have winning?

For the first time in College GameDay’s twenty year history, they visited Boone, North Carolina, home of giant slayer Appalachian State. After the Mountaineers took North Carolina to the brink in week one, they successfully garnered a massive upset in week two, going to College Station and defeating Texas A&M.  The GameDay crew (Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, and Pat McAfee) along with guest picker country singer Luke Combs, made their selections for week three’s slate. Find out below who they chose to win.
