Former Buffs LB Eoghan Kerry enters transfer portal

Former #cubuffs linebacker Eoghan Kerry announced he’ll be entering the transfer portal

The Colorado Buffaloes frequently land players from the transfer portal since Deion Sanders arrived in town. However, more than one month into the season, linebacker Eoghan Kerry announced his decision to enter the transfer portal and play elsewhere. Kerry posted a long message on social media to make the announcement:

“…To my brothers, sharing the Colorado title with you all has been an honor. I have formed more friendships than I could have imagined and made more memories than I thought possible. Thank you. With that being said, I’ll be entering my name into the transfer portal with 3 years of remaining eligibility.”

Kerry was with the team in 2022 and played sparingly, mostly on special teams. He was one of the few players to stick around after Karl Dorrell was fired and all the changes were made.

Over the summer, Kerry left the football program but kept his CU scholarship as a student.

Pair of Buffs reportedly moving on from CU football

A pair of Buffs are reportedly moving on from CU football

Brian Howell of BuffZone reported on Friday that tight end Erik Olsen and linebacker Eoghan Kerry are no longer on the Buffaloes football team. Both will stay on scholarship as CU students, but neither will count toward the 85-player limit.

Olsen is a local product out of Heritage High School in Littleton and was a high three-star recruit in the 2021 cycle. Prior to last season, I predicted the 6-foot-5, 250-pounder to have a breakout year at TE. He ended up getting playing time in all 12 games, pulling in five catches for 21 yards.

Kerry was also a three-star recruit who signed in the 2022 cycle. He primarily saw action on special teams last season and made four total tackles in 11 games.

Colorado football state of the position: Outside Linebackers

Colorado’s outside linebackers will play a big role in 2022

CU is being tricky this year with its position groupings. The Buffs have a group of defensive ends we previewed last week listed as outside linebackers, while all of the linebackers are listed as inside linebackers. So, we could see some players moving around a bit.

Regardless, we will be highlighting the listed inside linebackers who we believe will be playing more on the outside, got it? As we highlighted earlier this month, the 4-3 alignment utilizes two outside linebackers, a SAM (a strong side LB that moves with the tight end) and a WILL (a weak side LB that positions himself away from the TE).

Let’s dig in with our projected depth chart coming first followed by some analysis:

Buffs get commitment from 3-star outside linebacker

Eoghan Kerry is a CU Buff

With national signing day coming up on Dec. 15, the Colorado Buffaloes got their latest commitment in the class of 2022 on Wednesday in three-star outside linebacker Eoghan Kerry.

At 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, Kerry projects to be a solid edge rusher for the Buffaloes. From Santa Ana, California, he is rated No. 76 in the nation at LB and No. 61 overall in The Golden State for the class of 2022, according to 247Sports.

Originally a Texas Longhorn commit for over three months, he decommitted just days ago on Nov. 27. Kerry also received offers from Utah, UCLA, Colorado State and Arizona, among others. But on Wednesday, Kerry is officially a Colorado commit.

If all goes well, the Buffs could have a respectable replacement for Carson Wells at OLB.

Colorado’s 2022 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 5 in the Pac-12 and No. 46 nationally. Kerry joins Aubrey Smith, Kenny Soares, Shakuan Bowser and Kaden Ludwick as fellow linebackers in the class.

Three-star LB Eoghan Kerry decommits from Texas

Kerry is the third player to decommit from Texas this week.

It has been a rough week for Steve Sarkisian’s 2022 recruiting class.

There is no doubt that the disappointing 5-7 season has had a major impact on recruiting.

Three-star linebacker Eoghan Kerry reopened his recruitment on Saturday making it three straight days with a decommitment for Texas. Kerry joined running back Jamarion Miller and wide receiver Armani Winfield in backing off their Texas pledges.

The 6-foot-3 linebacker plays on one of the best high school football teams in the country. Mater Dei high school in Calif. is currently ranked No.1 in the nation according to Maxpreps.com.

Arlington Martin product Trevell Martin remains the only inside linebacker committed in Texas’ 2022 class.

Texas is currently holding on to the No. 8 ranked 2022 class in the nation according to 247sports. Good for second in the Big 12 conference, behind rival Oklahoma.
