2024 4-star DL Dealyn Evans signs with Texas A&M over Texas and Florida

Evans verbally committed to the Aggies on July 31, 2022. He was primarily recruited by Elijah Robinson, who is departing soon for Syracuse.

Patience is a virtue and a prominent Texas A&M recruit emphasized that point across Instagram Live on Friday night.

4-star defensive lineman Dealyn Evans told the world that he would be making his decision on where to play college football on Friday at 5 p.m. CT. With over a thousand people tuned in, Evans pulled off the ultimate troll move, all in good fun, of course.

“It’s been a tough decision, but I feel like some things just need to wait,” Evans initially said on Instagram, indicating that he would be waiting until Feb. 7 to officially sign somewhere.

Minutes later, Evans officially revealed his decision to those still tuned in, announcing that he would be signing with the Aggies over The University of Texas and Florida among others.

Evans verbally committed to play at Texas A&M on July 31, 2022. He was primarily recruited by Elijah Robinson, who is departing after the Texas Bowl to become defensive coordinator at Syracuse, which left his signing status up in the air.

The 6-foot-4 1/2, 260-pound prospect had major interest in the Longhorns program and visited three other universities: Alabama, Florida and TCU. During his Gainsville visit with the Gators, he was recruited by Sean Spencer, who recently became the Aggies’ new defensive line coach.

Evans is set to graduate in the spring from Pine Tree High School in Longview, Texas. He had 23 total offers and other notable schools include Auburn, Baylor, Houston, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, SMU, UTSA, USC and Washington.

Former Texas A&M junior DL Fadil Diggs commits to Syracuse in transfer portal

Oops, he did it again! Texas A&M interim coach Elijah Robinson will be departing from College Station in 2024 but he won’t be leaving alone.

Oops, he did it again! Texas A&M interim head coach Elijah Robinson will be departing from College Station to begin 2024 but he won’t be leaving alone.

Robinson is set to become the new defensive coordinator at Syracuse after the Aggies play No. 20 Oklahoma State in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 27. News broke last Thursday that Texas A&M staffer Joe Schaefer will be joining Robinson on the Orange staff as a defensive assistant coach.

Now a former Aggies player is headed to Syracuse as well. Junior defensive lineman Fadil Diggs announced his decision via X on Tuesday afternoon. Diggs entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Dec. 6 “in hopes to continue to elevate at another destination.”

Diggs is 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds with two years of eligibility remaining. He recorded 36 tackles (22 solo), four sacks and two pass deflections for Texas A&M this past season. Diggs earned the “Aggie Defensive Leadership” and the “Strength & Conditioning Defensive” awards with his play in 2022.

‘We’re trying to get the best 22 on the field ‘ Aggies interim HC Elijah Robinson previews the TaxAct Texas Bowl

Hear what Texas A&M interim head coach Elijah Robinson had to say ahead of the Aggies TaxAct Texas Bowl on Wednesday, Dec. 27.

Texas A&M interim head coach Elijah Robinson, who, despite being hired as Syracuses’ new defensive coordinator for the 2024 season and beyond, still holds rank in the Aggie locker room and will continue his duties until the final whistle blows during A&M’s upcoming TaxAct Texas Bowl vs. Oklahoma State.

While we at Aggies Wire have not shied away from covering the issues regarding Robinson’s recruiting tactics on behalf of Syracuse while still employed with Texas A&M, the veteran assistant at least provided more context on Tuesday afternoon during the final press conference before next week’s matchup.

Speaking with the local media, Robinson, outside of discussing how the team will prepare for the game, continued to profess his admiration for A&M and the importance of developing lasting relationships that will aid in future development.

“People talk to people. People trust people.”

“When relationships are made, people can explain to (players) what a place can do for them… This is a great place to be. It has great coaches. Now it’s all about the fit and relationships.”

Even more telling, despite his new allegiance with the Orange, Robinson stated that if any current A&M player comes to him personally to discuss if they should transfer from the program, he would advise them to stay, especially on defense due to new head coach Mike Elko’s elite defensive mindset.

“If I’m a defensive player here, I’d look at Coach (Mike) Elko and know that Coach Elko is going to put a great defense on the field here.”

At the core of it all, Elijah Robinson is a fantastic human being with a very bright coaching future ahead of him, and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward. Here is everything he had to say during Tuesday’s press conference.

Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy has ‘no idea’ what to expect from Aggies in Texas Bowl

Led by Elijah Robinson, the Aggies will have the element of surprise during their matchup against No. 20 Oklahoma State in the Texas Bowl.

The element of surprise is rare in sports, but that is certainly the case for Texas A&M‘s upcoming matchup against No. 20 Oklahoma State in the Texas Bowl.

The Aggies are currently in a transition period led by interim head coach Elijah Robinson. Texas A&M fired head coach Jimbo Fisher on Nov. 12 and hired Mike Elko from Duke to replace him on Nov. 26.

“We have no idea what they’re gonna do,” Gundy said Thursday. “We don’t have any idea what they’re gonna do. They play three down, they play four down. They play man, they play zone. The coordinator’s not there on either side of the ball.

“So, we don’t have any idea what they’re doing. We’re practicing for spring ball and putting a little gameplan together and gonna go down and play.”

Elko hired Collin Klein from Kansas State as the new offensive coordinator on Dec. 6. He has yet to formally hire a new defensive coordinator. However, one would imagine that Elko would want to bring in one of his own guys to fill his former role rather than retaining D.J. Durkin from Fisher’s staff.

As for the Texas Bowl at 8 p.m. CT on Dec. 27, none of us have any idea what the Aggies will look like, Gundy included.

Report: Syracuse expected to hire Texas A&M staffer Joe Schaefer as defensive assistant coach

Texas A&M interim head coach Elijah Robinson has officially poached a coach from College Station to follow him into his new role as defensive coordinator at Syracuse after this season.

Texas A&M interim head coach Elijah Robinson has officially poached a coach from College Station to follow him into his new role as defensive coordinator at Syracuse after this season.

According to 247Sports national college football reporter Matt Zenitz, Robinson has hired Aggies’ staffer Joe Schaefer to remain in the same role as a defensive assistant coach for the Orange.

Schaefer’s contribution as a coach came on the sidelines at Kyle Field in 2023. Before becoming a defensive analyst at Texas A&M, he served as defensive coordinator at Youngstown State and primarily worked with safeties.

Before that, Schaefer served as defensive coordinator and secondary coach at John Caroll University in University Heights, Ohio, from 2018-19. He was the director of scouting at Iowa State from 2016-17. Schaefer made Cyclones history in 2017, recruiting the program’s top-ranked class.

Schaefer is a native of Parma Heights, Ohio and he played football at Bowling Green from 2005-08.

Elijah Robinson shows the dangers of keeping a coach already hired elsewhere

After visiting one of A&M’s top 2024 commits on behalf of Syracuse, Elijah Robinson’s stay as the Aggies interim HC is problematic.

For the last five seasons, Elijah Robinson has served as Texas A&M’s defensive line coach and lead recruiter for then-head coach Jimbo Fisher, who was fired after six seasons on Nov. 12. Immediately after Fisher’s dismissal, Robinson was named as the A&M’s interim coach, leading the Aggies to a 1-1 record after falling to LSU in the season finale.

Just two weeks later, on Nov. 27, Texas A&M Athletic Director Ross Bjork and the Board of Regents agreed to terms with new head football coach Mike Elko, leading to his first task that, at the time, looked vital to aiding his transition to provide the roster, and the 2024 recruiting class, a much-needed safety net: keep Elijah Robinson on staff.

Throughout his time in College Station, Robinson has become a favorite in the locker room and a proven relationship builder on the recruiting trail, consistently helping Fisher haul in some of the top recruiting classes in the country year after year.

However, just days after rumors swirled stating that Robinson was a sure bet to stay with the program, the news that Syracuse had hired Fran Brown as their next head coach, a close friend of Robinson’s after coaching together nearly a decade ago, everything changed.

On Sunday, Dec. 3, it was reported that Robinson had accepted the role as Syracuses’ next defensive coordinator but would happily stay on to coach the team for the Aggies Dec. 27 bowl game, which, at the time, seemed like a great idea.

During a press conference last Tuesday, Robinson was asked if his new position would result in potentially “poaching” players on the Aggies roster and future recruits. Trusting his word, as usual, Robinson denied that he would engage in the said activity:

“I will not encourage anyone. Those guys have to make the decision to go into the portal on their own. I will not at any point say, ‘Come with me.’ I have too much respect for the program and the university.”

Among the 13 players who have entered the transfer portal, none have announced that they’ll join Robinson just yet, but one former 2024 commit, four-star WR Jaylan Hornsby, flipped his commitment to Syracuse on Sunday afternoon.

On the surface, Hornsby likely made his decision based on early playing time, but still, the coincidence is jarring. This trend continued to fester on Wednesday as an image showed Robinson, in Syracuse gear, visiting 2024 five-star DL and Aggie commit Dominick McKinley and his brother, 2026 DL Darryus McKinley, on behalf of the program, while simultaneously coaching the Aggies who begin practice for the bowl game this week.

Again, no one is personally attacking Elijah Robinson, who is simply doing his job. Still, the fact that many of us were blindsided by the recruiting ace’s natural influence without blatantly attempting to damage A&M falls on Ross Bjork, who probably should have graciously cut ties with Robinson immediately after accepting his new position.

Nothing can be done to curb potential losses at this point, but this will likely serve as a cautionary example to programs that fail to look past personal relationships once a new regime enters the picture.

Robinson will coach his final game for Texas A&M in the TexAct Texas bowl vs. Oklahoma State on Wednesday, Dec. 27. The game will air on ESPN.

2024 4-Star WR Jaylan Hornsby has flipped to Syracuse

Texas A&M has lost yet another 2024 commit as 4-Star WR Jaylan Hornsby has flipped to Syracuse as of Sunday afternoon.

The Mike Elko era for Texas A&M Football is fast underway. While Aggie fans are excited about a much-needed change at the helm, this transition was almost going to come with attrition through the transfer portal and the 2024 recruiting class.

Already losing multiple prospects in the cycle, 2024 four-star wide receiver Jaylan Hornsby, who committed to the Aggies this summer, has flipped his Aggie pledge to the Syracuse Orange, as he becomes the first recruit to join current interim head coach Elijah Robinson, who is set to take over as Syracuse’s defensive coordinator immediately after A&M’s Dec. 27 bowl game.

After Elko hired Collin Klein as the Aggies’ new offensive coordinator, an emphasis on speed in the receiving core likely hindered Hornsby’s future outlook with the program, as he is more an outside X possession prospect and is a much better fit in the ACC. Also, Hornsby is from New Jersey, so this is simply a no-brainer if staying close to home becomes a priority.

According to 247Sports, Hornsby is the 83rd-ranked player in the 2024 class and the 10th-ranked player in New Jersey. Three-star wide receivers Earnest Campbell and Debron Gatling remain the only committed WR prospects in Texas A&M’s 2024 class.

4-star OL recruit Coen Echols announces his decommitment from Texas A&M football team

With the impending departure of interim head coach Elijah Robinson forthcoming, some top prospects are reevaluating their options.

With the impending departure of Texas A&M interim head coach Elijah Robinson forthcoming, some of the Aggies’ top recruits are reevaluating their options.

4-star offensive line prospect Coen Echols is the latest recruit to de-commit from Texas A&M. Echols released a statement via X on Friday afternoon to announce his decision.

“I would like to start off by thanking the Lord for blessing me to be where I am today,” Echols stated. “I would also like to thank my family for their continued guidance and support. I would like to thank the Texas A&M coaching staff for giving me this great opportunity and I would like to thank the fans and players for the love they have shown me and my family.

“I wish nothing but the best for Texas A&M, but with all that being said, my recruitment is 100% back open. Please respect me and my family’s decision at this time. This isn’t just any decision, but a life decision.”

Echols is a 6-foot-3, 285-pound interior offensive lineman from Katy High School in Texas with over 30 offers. He was recruited primarily by Robinson along with former offensive line coach Steve Addazio.

Robinson is remaining with the Aggies for the TaxAct Texas Bowl on Dec. 27 versus No. 22 Oklahoma State at NRG Stadium in Houston. Afterward, he will be departing College Station to become the new defensive coordinator at Syracuse.

Everything Texas A&M interim HC Elijah Robinson had to say during Tuesday’s press conference

During Tuesday’s Teleconference, Texas A&M interim HC Elijah Robinson will continue his role during the Texas Bowl on Dec. 27. Here is everything he had to say.

On Tuesday, current interim head coach Elijah Robinson, who still holds the role during new Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko’s transition to the program, recently accepted an offer from newly minted Syracuse HC Fran Brown to become the program’s defensive coordinator in 2024, after turning down a massive contract to stay with the Aggies in an assist role.

While no one blames Robinson for making the best decision regarding his coaching career, he will be greatly missed in Aggieland. He remains one of the most professional individuals we have encountered during his five-year run.

On Tuesday, Robinson spoke to media in what could be his final press conference of the season ahead of Texas A&M’s TexAct Texas Bowl matchup with No. 20-ranked Oklahoma State on Wednesday, Dec. 27, immediately revealing that he will, in fact, stay on staff to coach the bowl game before departing to New York.

Despite what many of us doubted less than a week prior, Robinson has steadfastly supported Texas A&M and will continue to do so throughout his coaching career. Here is everything he had to say on Tuesday afternoon.
