Five-star Ohio State basketball target Efton Reid postpones commitment… Again

Ohio State is waiting patiently on five-star center Efton Reid who has postponed his commitment for a second time.

The Ohio State basketball team has been waiting patiently on five-star center Efton Reid to make his college decision. Reid is the No. 3 rated center in the country according to 247 Sports composite rankings and has postponed his commitment for a second time.

Don’t be frustrated with Reid on this one Buckeye Nation as it seems like “Mama Bear” might be the one jumping the gun. Twice now, Reid’s mother has gone to Twitter to share official dates that her son would be committing, and twice, we’ve got nothing. The dates given were April 15 and most recently May 7. Both tweets ended with “Mama Bear has spoken” and both came and went without a commitment.

Reid has been very quiet about his recruitment all along and isn’t very vocal on social media by today’s standards. However, after quote tweeting mom saying “It’s FR (for real) this time” Reid followed up with a more somber message saying “Patience Ya’ll”.

It seems that Reid may have been ready to make a decision and then something happened that made him pause and think again. Could it be that a certain school in the Big Ten just had a center transfer out and has an open roster spot? Hmm… we do like to ponder.

It’s hard to say one way or the other. Reid would be a huge win for Chris Holtmann and the Buckeyes, but let’s be patient with this kid. It’s his future and he should take as much time as needed… even if “Mama Bear” has spoken.

Ohio State center Ibrahima Diallo to enter transfer portal

After two seasons, Ibrahima Diallo will be transferring from Ohio State to seek playing time elsewhere. He will enter the transfer portal.

After two seasons with the Ohio State basketball program, center Ibrahima Diallo has entered the transfer portal. The 6-foot, 10-inch post player will look elsewhere to get playing time.

With lack of size inside this past season, Diallo probably could’ve helped the Buckeyes with some valuable minutes. However, the Senegal native was battling an MCL injury most of the season and was limited to just five games.

Diallo came to Ohio State as a three-star center in the 2019 class out of Prolific Prep in Napa, California. He was rated as the No. 64 center in the nation coming out of high school according to 247Sports. As a freshman, Diallo played in just eight games, averaging 1.3 points per game and 1.9 rebounds in limited action.

With Diallo announcing his decision to leave, it leaves the Buckeyes shorthanded once again inside. However, this does open up another scholarship spot on the basketball roster.

Does this open the door for another center to come to Columbus… maybe five-star center Efton Reid? Reid is the No. 3 center in the 2021 class and should be making his decision known soon.

Either way, Chris Holtmann now has another spot to fill and not much time to do so.

Five-star Ohio State basketball target Efton Reid postpones commitment

Ohio State and other schools anxiously awaited a verbal announcement from 5-star center Efton Reid Thursday, but it has now been postponed.

Things have gotten a little zany in the recruitment and commitment of five-star center Efton Reid. The 6-foot, 11-inch, 225-pounder from IMG Academy was supposed to let the world know which school he would attend at some point Thursday, but as time wore on, there was little news coming from his camp, or should we say his mom.

Reid’s mother has been the one speaking for him in a very tight-lipped, mysterious recruitment process that seems to involve Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Virginia, and now seemingly Florida State. According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Reid is rated as the No. 3 center and 24th overall national prospect. There are no Crystal Ball predictions which sounds about right.

So, the college basketball world waited, until his mother shared that the decision would be postponed via her Twitter account late in the day.

So, we’ll continue to wait. This is all that has been given with no new timetable, no leader, lean, or otherwise. As further news becomes available, we’ll have it for you here at Buckeyes Wire.

Way too early basketball polls have Ohio State in top ten for 2021

Where do some of the national media think the Ohio State basketball team will fall in the pecking order next year? Here’s your round-up.

On Monday night, the Baylor Bears won the NCAA college basketball national championship in a dominating performance. The confetti hasn’t yet been cleaned off the floor of Lucas Oil Stadium yet preseason polls for 2021 are already rolling in.

Where does Ohio State fall in these way too early rankings? It can get a little dicey and tricky with a bunch of unknowns so soon after the season has ended, but most have the Buckeyes in the top ten heading into next season.

Most will remember No. 15 seed Oral Roberts upending the Bucks tournament run, becoming only the ninth two seed to lose in the opening round. However, even with that loss, the fanfare is rolling in from the national media as we look ahead.

But where do some of the national players see Ohio State falling? We’re glad you asked.

Five-Star Ohio State basketball target set to make decision on April 15

Ohio State basketball hopes to land the services of five-star center Efton Reid. He is set to make his decision known on April 15.

If there’s one thing that Chris Holtman and the Ohio State basketball team needs, it’s size. The Buckeyes played last season without a true center after Kaleb Wesson entered the NBA draft in 2020. Even he was undersized for the position.

Now the Bucks have a chance at a top 25 ranked talent according to 247 Sports composite rankings. Efton Reid who is ranked as the No. 3 center in the nation will be making his college choice on April 15. This according to his mother, Maria who posted on Twitter.

At 6-feet, 11-inches, Reid would immediately become the tallest player on the Ohio State team. He hails from Richmond, Virginia, but has been playing his high school basketball at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

There has been no official list of top teams listed to land Reid’s services, but it is believed that there are four programs in the lead to sign the big man. Ohio State is one of those teams along with Florida State, Pitt, and the 2019 national champion Virginia Cavaliers.

This would be a huge catch for Chris Holtman and the Buckeyes.  A big man in the middle to take some pressure off E.J. Liddell would be huge. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.

Michigan basketball recruiting outlook at center in 2021 looking bright

Michigan basketball joins Alabama, Ohio State, Duke and Texas in the five-star’s top 5. Overall outlook on the Wolverines recruiting at C.

[jwplayer kyuJhM3C-XNcErKyb]

Michigan has two commits in 2021 from Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy in football — including a five-star in QB J.J. McCarthy — could it get a 2021 five-star on the basketball side?

Since Juwan Howard took over the program a year and a half ago, the Michigan basketball program has sought out more top-tier prospects compared to former coach John Beilein. While the Wolverines haven’t been able to sign any five-stars — it had Isaiah Todd committed before he chose the G-League route — they’re in contention for several others.

Among them is IMG Academy five-star center Charles Bediako, the fifth-rated center in the country and No. 23 player overall, according to the 247Sports Composite. And Michigan appears to be in contention for him, as he named the maize and blue to his Top 5 on Saturday.

But, it’ll be a difficult pull, still, as he also put Alabama, Duke, Texas and Ohio State in his top group.

With four commits in the 2021 class, Michigan basketball has the No. 6 class in the country, according to 247Sports’ team rankings.

Bediako isn’t the only five-star center in IMG Academy’s 2021 class that Michigan is in with. Rated one spot ahead of his teammate Bediako, C Efton Reid is the No. 22 player in the class and the Wolverines appear to be in high contention for him as well.

Per Rivals, Michigan is the team to beat for Reid:

Juwan Howard may not have signed a remarkable 2020 class, but he did manage to lure some of the best from the DMV to Ann Arbor and, while Reid isn’t from the DMV, that could help the Wolverines in the end. Reid played travel ball with DMV products Terrance Williams and Hunter Dickinson last summer, and with Michigan facing a void in the frontcourt after the season, the Wolverines could do a lot worse than land the big 7-footer. Howard has communicated with Reid that he can configure a way for him and Dickinson to share the floor together which might make the idea of playing for the former NBA star even more intriguing whenever it comes down to making his decision.

Michigan also made the top group for Chet Holmgren, the top-rated center out of Minnesota and No. 2 player overall in 2021.

As far as Bediako is concerned, there are four 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions in for him to attend Alabama.
