Alabama football countdown to kickoff: 20 days

We are now just 20 days away from the start of Alabama football’s 2023 season!

The Alabama Crimson Tide will take the field for the 2023 college football season in 20 days, as Middle Tennessee State visits Bryant Denny Stadium on Sept. 2.

Here at Roll Tide Wire, we will be counting down the days until Nick Saban and his team take the field.

With 20 days remaining, we will take a look at a former standout at linebacker for the Tide, Shaun Dion Hamilton.

Hamilton played in Tuscaloosa from 2014-17 where he appeared in a total of 33 games and accumulated 134 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and two interceptions.

Redshirt freshman defensive back Earl Little II currently wears No. 20 and should play a significant role for the Crimson Tide in 2023.

What the addition of transfer CB Trey Amos means for the Alabama secondary

Whether he starts or not, adding Trey Amos to the Alabama secondary can do nothing but help the Crimson Tide’s defense!

On Tuesday of this week, [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide received a commitment from coveted Lousiana transfer cornerback Trey Amos, beating out arch-rival LSU for the former Ragin’ Cajun.

So what does the addition of Amos mean for the Alabama secondary? Well first, I believe the coaching staff likes who they have on the current roster, but with the departures of Eli Ricks, Khyree Jackson, Jahquez Robinson, and Tre’Quon Fegans, Alabama was beginning to be a little thin in the backend.

Bringing in Amos certainly helps cure some of the depth issues. Still, it also provides more competition at the corner spot opposite Kool-Aid McKinstry and possibly at the STAR position with Earl Little.

The most likely scenario for Amos stepping on the field in a starting role for the Crimson Tide would be beating out redshirt sophomore Terrion Arnold at corner. While Arnold certainly has tremendous upside, Amos has significantly more experience, appearing in 30 games while at Louisiana compared to Arnold who has just appeared in 11 total games.

At this particular point in the offseason, it is hard to predict what may happen this fall, but I expect a heated competition at cornerback between Arnold and Amos and we all know that competition breeds excellence.

Whether he starts or not, adding Trey Amos to the Alabama secondary can do nothing but help the Crimson Tide’s defense!

What we learned from Alabama’s 2023 A-Day Game

Spring football is now complete. Let’s take a look at what we learned from Alabama’s A-Day game!

With the conclusion of spring football, we have now entered the dog days of summer where there is a significant gap between now and the first action of football in the fall.

Now that A-Day is officially in the review mirror and we have had a day or two to let the dust settle and the emotions subside, it’s time to take a look at some of the things that we learned from this past Saturday’s scrimmage.

Without question, fans are still enamored with the quarterback competition between Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson, we not only will we discuss that, but we will also look at what we learned about some of the other spots on the team.

Let’s roll!
