See Notre Dame Stadium revealed in EA Sports NCAA College Football ‘25

The Irish are in the game

The anticipation is growing for the return of [autotag]EA Sports College Football[/autotag] and on Friday morning a gameplay trailer dropped featuring some clips of Notre Dame football inside Notre Dame Stadium.

It’s all about the details with the venues, so it was hard to see exactly what it will look like, but we got a good look at the “Play Like a Champion Today” sign early in the video and then later around the :50 mark, you see Irish players roaming across the field.

The game released its game tier purchase options earlier this week, along with its cover athletes, Colorado’s Shadur Sanders, Texas’ Quinn Ewers and Michigan’s Donovan Edwards.

EA Sports reveals release date, cover athletes for College Football 25

EA Sports announces July 19 release date for College Football 25, and reveals three football stars who will grace the cover.

Over ten years after the release of NCAA Football 14, EA Sports revealed on Thursday the date for College Football 25 to finally come out and mark the return of video games for college athletics.

EA announced a July 19 release date for the highly anticipated game, and revealed a trio of college football stars will be on the cover of the game’s standard edition: Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, Colorado dual threat Travis Hunter, and Michigan running back Donovan Edwards.

“Donovan, Quinn and Travis are extraordinary talents who impressed and entertained millions of college football fans on the field last season and are poised to do so again this year,” EA Sports SVP and Group GM Daryl Holt, said in a statement. “We’re proud to be able to incorporate thousands of current athletes in College Football 25, and featuring this trio of playmakers and their iconic college programs on the cover is a perfect fit as we usher in a new era for EA SPORTS and college football.”

EA Sports’ college games were discontinued after the release of NCAA Football 14 following Ed O’Bannon’s lawsuit against the NCAA. The emergence of NIL now allows student-athletes to profit off their likeness in video games, which opened the door for the franchise to return under a new name.

More information will be revealed about the new game on May 17, and after an 11-year wait fans now only have two more months until college football is back at EA Sports.

Kyler Murray among CBS Sports players who would have grace EA Sports NCAA Football cover

[autotag]Kyler Murray[/autotag]’s lone season at Oklahoma was an electric one. In one of the finest quarterback seasons of all time, Murray helped lead the Sooners to the College Football Playoff.

Murray’s ability to create big plays with his huge arm and his incredible mobility made him a highlight reel waiting to happen.

In the wake of EA Sports’ announcement that College Football will be making a return this year, the CBSSports Will Backus believes Kyler Murray would have made a great cover player during the game’s hiatus.

Murray effectively had one season as a starting quarterback — he played sparingly as a freshman at Texas A&M, transferred to Oklahoma and had to sit out 2016 before sitting behind Heisman winner Baker Mayfield in 2017 — but what a year it was. He had 4,361 yards passing and 1,001 yards rushing while amassing 54 total touchdowns. That earned him the Heisman as Oklahoma rolled to a Big 12 title and a College Football Playoff berth with Murray calling the shots. Adding to his profile as a standout athlete, Murray was selected with the ninth overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, but he obviously elected to stick with football. – Backus, CBS Sports

More: Which Sooners could have been the EA Sports College Football cover athlete?

Murray wasn’t the most colorful player in college football, but he let his play do the talking.

Noticeably absent from Backus’ piece is Baker Mayfield, who was a Heisman finalist twice before winning the award in 2017. Instead of Mayfield, Backus chose Marcus Mariota, Derrick Henry, and DeShaun Watson. Each were fantastic players during their time, but none of those former stars represented the passion and excitement of college football quite like [autotag]Baker Mayfield[/autotag].

REPORT: Brandr files lawsuit against EA Sports over video game

The new EA Sports College Football Game has hit another potential snag.

The EA Sports College Football game scheduled for release in 2024 has hit another snag.

The Brandr Group which has facilitated deals with over 50 universities and their athletes for the EA Sports College Football game has filed a lawsuit against EA Sports. In the lawsuit, Brandr claims that EA “is trying to circumvent” its agreements to negotiate deals for athletes to participate in the football game,” according to an article from Front Office Sports.

Currently, players who are set to be in the game are expected to receive $500 for their inclusion in the game. Any school and athlete that wants to be included in the game has until June 30 to opt into the deal according to FOS’s report.

EA Sports’s College Football game is expected to be the first release of the game since 2013 when the company launched NCAA 14. The game would no longer be released following 2013 due to the Ed O’Bannon vs NCAA lawsuit that challenged the NCAA’s use of player image and likeness for commercial purposes. The case would be decided in 2015 by the Supreme Court in favor of Ed O’Bannon and former college football and basketball players with the NCAA being ordered to pay over $42 million.

In 2021, EA Sports announced a relaunch of the College Football series. While it wasn’t originally expected to include actual players, the allowing of Name, Image, and Likeness by the NCAA when it comes to student-athletes, will allow the game to include those who decide to opt-in to be included which ultimately led to this new lawsuit.

At the current time, it’s unclear what type of impact the lawsuit will have on the video game.

Former Oklahoma TE Jermaine Gresham makes the Athletic’s All-EA Sports NCAA Football Team

Former Oklahoma TE Jermaine Gresham makes the Athletic’s All-EA Sports NCAA Football Team.

It’s been almost a decade since you had the friends over, turned on your gaming console, put in the newest NCAA football game, and battled it out to the early morning hours the following day.

The college football game was a mainstay at many households across the country, with NCAA Football 14 with former Michigan QB Denard Robinson donning the cover of the final game… or so we thought.

That was until nearly two years ago when EA Sports announced the game would finally be returning after NIL was passed, which allowed athletes to get paid for their name, image, and likeness.

But gamers have to wait at least one more year before the new game releases.

So, to get us in the mood, The Athletic released its All-EA Sports NCAA Football Team (subscription required), and a former Sooner made the squad.

TE Jermaine Gresham had an impressive career at the University of Oklahoma from 2006-2009. He would ultimately miss the 2009 season due to an injury, but before that, he totaled more than 1,600 yards and more than 25 touchdowns during his career.

[lawrence-related id=66029]

Gresham’s best season was undoubtedly the 2008 season, when the Sooners’ offense set multiple offensive records.

That season Gresham was a first-team All-American and first-team All-Big 12 selection. He had the most TDs (14) and receiving yards (950) by a TE.

Those numbers lead him to garner a 99 overall rating in the 2009 edition of the video game, putting him as The Athletic’s choice for the TE position.

Some honorable mentions were Miami’s Greg Olsen and Notre Dame’s Tyler Eifert.

Both of those would have been good selections, but the gamers out there know Gresham was the clear choice. He was a cheat code to play with due to his incredible catching ability, route running, speed, and how easily he broke tackles.

There’s no doubt about it, Gresham and that Oklahoma offense led to a lot of arguments and probably a lot of broken controllers as well.

Highest rated Ohio State football players in “NCAA Football” video game history

Highest rated Ohio State Buckeyes in NCAA video game history #GoBucks #NCAAFootball

The NCAA video game series has been a pillar in many households since 1998 and for some even before that during the days of “Bill Walsh College Football.” It was downright devastating when EA Sport stopped producing the game after “NCAA ’14.”

The game — or a version thereof — is scheduled to return in time for the 2023 season and I just simply can’t wait. It got me wondering who the ten highest-rated Ohio State football players were in the video game’s history. It is important to remember that no names were used for the rosters, but we can make some safe assumptions that QB No. 2 would have been Terrelle Pryor. It’s part of the reason EA Sports had to stop making the game.

Another item of note is that it is extremely hard to find any rosters before the 2004 version, but I feel I exhausted my options and found the best results. I also want to note that the first “Bill Walsh College Football” game didn’t even have Ohio State and instead had an odd copycat team named Columbus. There were no individual player ratings and therefore that game was not used. Oh, and don’t forget, NCAA games were labeled a year in advance so the 2005 version of the game is actually for the 2004 season. Got it? No, maybe — sort of?

Let’s move forward anyway with the top ten rated Ohio State football players in the history of the “NCAA Football” video game franchise.

EA Sports to bring back college football video game

After a long hiatus, it looks like EA Sports is bringing back a college football video game. Dominate with Ohio State soon.

College football fans rejoice!. It was announced today that after a long hiatus, EA Sports would be bringing back its famed college gridiron video game. It’s true!

You soon will be able to hook up your favorite video game system and take The Ohio State Buckeyes all the way to the national championship and maybe win a Heisman trophy or two.

The popular game last hit store shelves in 2013 after the company had to cease production due to legalities of using college player’s names and likeness. Thus, the new version may look different than many of us remember.

EA Sports is working with CLC, a collegiate licensing company to secure rights to traditions, uniforms, playbooks, and so on. However, EA will look to move forward at this time without names, images, and likenesses of real college football players. Of course, that could all change as new legislation continues to work in favor of players being paid for marketing purposes.

We also know that the game will drop the “NCAA” tag in favor of just “EA Sports College Football”. This move probably gives the gaming company a little more freedom down the road.

Unfortunately, it has already been announced that the game will not be released this year. No date was given for release, nor is it known if it will be made only for next-gen consoles such as the PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X/S. If that ends up being the case, many of us will have to upgrade our entire gaming system just to play.

Either way, we’re excited at the possibility of being able to play the game of our youth… or our middle adult years.

Ahh… I can hear it now. “E.A. Sports – It’s In The Game!”
