Celtics reportedly work out E.J. Lidell, M.J. Walker, Troy Baxter Jr.

Boston reportedly worked out a trio of 2021 draft prospects on Tuesday.

The Boston Celtics conducted pre-draft workouts with a trio of fringe 2021 NBA draft prospects on Tuesday in addition to NAIA standout E.J. Onu, according to Forbes Sports’ Chris Grenham. The Celtics have been working out a number of 2021 draft prospects likely to go late in the second round or undrafted, presumably with an eye for being taken with Boston’s No. 45 pick in the latter round of this year’s draft, or perhaps to sign to a camp deal.

While it’s tempting to read the proverbial tea leaves regarding what the Celtics are planning on draft night with such an assortment of players coming in for workouts, it may just be that the team is starting its data collection at the back end with more than a month to go before the annual event takes place in late July.

Having said all that, let’s take a look at the prospects mentioned by Grenham.

E.J. Liddell out for indefinite time with non-COVID illness

Ohio State basketball forward E.J. Liddell is out indefinitely with a non-COVID illness according to an OSU spokesman.

The Ohio State basketball team suffered a blow in the personnel department of the men’s basketball program Friday. According to a release from an Ohio State spokesman, forward E.J. Liddell will be out for an indefinite time because of a non-COVID illness.

“I’m really disappointed for E.J. but we anticipate him returning here hopefully soon,” Holtmann said. “He is doing well and is going to be routinely evaluated by our medical staff.”

No other further details were provided by Holtmann or the university, but it’s obviously not the best news to lose your leading scorer and rebounder. In fact, Liddell had been quickly emerging as the best player on the team and looking like he was taking that expected step in development from last season.

Ohio State hosts Cleveland State at 4:00 p.m EST on Sunday at Value City Arena. It then opens Big Ten play next Wednesday at Purdue. If and when we get more information on Lidell, we’ll provide an update.

In the meantime, here’s to hoping for a speedy recovery and treatment plan fr whatever he is dealing with.

LOOK! Ohio State basketball back on the court for first workouts

The Ohio State basketball team had its first day of workouts on Tuesday. The team took to Twitter to share some images from the day.

With all the news swirling at whether or not we’ll have a college football season, and with Ohio State having to pause and resume voluntary workouts following COVID-19 testing, we got a little lost with the other revenue sport, college basketball.

Believe it or not, the Ohio State basketball team was back on the court Tuesday for its first resumption of workouts, and the team shared some pictures of the gang all back together.

In the photo (that appears to be dripping with effort and sweat), we get a look at C.J. Walker, Zed Key, Eugene Brown III, and E.J. Liddell.

We haven’t even scratched the surface of what the COVID-19 pandemic will mean for college basketball, and frankly, it might be a little too early. Hopefully, things proceed and everyone starts doing their part to manage this pandemic a little better so hoops season doesn’t have an interruption as well.
