Report: Dzanan Musa buying medical supplies for hometown in Bosnia

Brooklyn Nets wing Dzanan Musa is doing his part to help the people in his home country, Bosnia.

Since the NBA suspended play on March 11 due to concerns over the novel coronavirus outbreak, multiple players across the league have stepped forward to help others in the United States’ time of need.

The latest player to make a major contribution, however, is helping out his home country, Bosnia. Brooklyn Nets wing Dzanan Musa is purchasing medical supplies for the Cantonal Hospital following the first coronavirus death in Bihac, Bosnia, his hometown, according to Chris Milholen of Nets Daily.

Musa told Milholen those in Bihac trying to combat the novel coronavirus are “desperate to get things right now.” The Nets wing also added:

My hometown of Bihac is desperate to get things right now. The equipment was ordered according to the instructions of the management of the Cantonal Hospital in Bihac. The equipment is currently in high demand and almost impossible to find but we were lucky enough to reach a supplier through a friend. I would appeal to anyone but who is able to get involved in helping.

Others who have been helped out in this time are the hourly and part-time arena employees across the league, who lose out on their paychecks with the stoppage in play. The Nets and Barclays Center have committed to pay their employees during the hiatus, through May.

Garrett Temple doubtful vs. Spurs

The Brooklyn Nets have three players on assignment with the Long Island Nets, two others out and one more who could be sidelined Friday.

The Brooklyn Nets will likely be without Garrett Temple again on Friday, given his recent status update.

The wing missed the Nets’ loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday due to a left ankle sprain. He has been ruled doubtful for Friday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs for the same reason.

Kevin Durant (right Achilles rehab) and Kyrie Irving (right shoulder surgery) are the only other players included on the Nets’ status report due to injury. Both at out.

Nic Claxton, Dzanan Musa and two-way player Jeremiah Martin are all unavailable for the Nets. They are all on assignment with Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets. They host the Lakeland Magic, the Orlando Magic’s G League affiliate, on Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be available to watch on NBAGLeague.com.

In Long Island’s last game, which was a 124-108 win over the Delaware Blue Coats, the Philadelphia 76ers’ G League affiliate, Claxton scored 34 points on 10-for-16 shooting (3-for-6 from deep). Dzanan Musa scored 20 on 5-for-14 shooting (2-for-5 from three) in the win.

Nets to be extremely shorthanded vs. 76ers on Thursday

Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving is just one of the many players who won’t suit up for Thursday’s contest against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Per the Brooklyn Nets PR, several Nets players will be unable to take the floor against the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday.

Point guard Kyrie Irving, who has been diagnosed with a significant shoulder injury, headlines the list. Joining him will be two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant, who has already said he won’t be playing during the 2019-20 season.

In addition, big man Nic Claxton, forward Dzanan Musa and point guard Jeremiah Martin will also be absent for Nets’ first game since the All-Star Break, with all having been assigned to the NBA G League with the Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate.

For Irving, it will be the 27th game of the season that he’s missed with a right shoulder impingement. On Tuesday, it was reported that Irving would see a specialist this week after re-aggravating an injury that’s long been causing him pain.

Durant, as previously mentioned, has yet to suit up for the 2019-20 season. However, recent videos have shown Durant getting shots up and looking much like the long-range assassin he’s been known to be throughout his career. Though he’s ruled himself out for the remainder of the season, the video is still encouraging for his long-term future with the Nets, as it appears that he’ll be in prime form when the 2020-21 season rolls around.

Nets assign Dzanan Musa to Long Island

The Brooklyn Nets are back to practice on Tuesday, though Dzanan Musa will be working with the team’s G League affiliate.

Prior to the Brooklyn Nets’ first practice of the post-NBA All-Star break portion of their schedule, the team assigned Dzanan Musa to the team’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets.

Musa has played in four games for Long Island throughout the 2019-20 season. In those few appearances, he’s averaged 23 points per game on 59.3% shooting (37.5% from 3-point territory). Musa is also averaging 6.8 rebounds while playing 28 minutes per game for Long Island.

At the NBA level, the 20-year-old wing has played in 35 games for Brooklyn in 2019-20, though he’s only averaging 11.5 minutes per appearance. Musa has averaged 4.2 points per game on 36% shooting (23.1% from long-range). He has not taken the floor in a game for the Nets over their last three contests.

Long Island’s next game is on Friday against the Lakeland Magic, Orlando’s G League affiliate. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. and the game will be available to watch on NBAGLeague.com.

Dzanan Musa to join Theo Pinson with Long Island Nets

The Brooklyn Nets are in Indiana getting ready to face the Pacers, and they are doing so without Dzanan Musa.

The Brooklyn Nets are set to finish off their two-game road trip in Indiana on Monday with a game against the Pacers. They are doing so without Kyrie Irving, who’s dealing with a medial ligament sprain in his right knee. Brooklyn is now also without Dzanan Musa.

The Nets assigned the 6-foot-9 wing to their G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, ahead of Monday’s game against the Pacers.

Musa did not play in Brooklyn’s loss to the Toronto Raptors on Saturday, but he did see some action in the win over the Golden State Warriors. In just over nine minutes of work, the wing scored nine points on 4-for-4 shooting (1-for-1 from 3-point territory) and grabbed four rebounds.

Musa will be joining Theo Pinson, who has logged a deal of time with the Long Island Nets of late.

Long Island is back in action on Tuesday at 8 p.m. on ESPN+ when they visit the Oklahoma City Blue, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s G League affiliate.

Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot available against Pistons

Theo Pinson and Dzanan Musa have both been recalled by the Brooklyn Nets ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Pistons.

Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot will be available off the bench for Kenny Atkinson in the Brooklyn Nets’ game against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday at Barclays Center. The wing was added to the team’s injury report on Tuesday and, at the time, was listed as probable.

Additionally, Theo Pinson and Dzanan Musa have been recalled by the Nets. The pair was on assignment with Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets.

Pinson and Musa were already at Barclays Center ahead of Brooklyn’s game against the Pistons. Long Island played the Capital City Go-Go, the Washington Wizards’ G League affiliate, in Brooklyn on Wednesday and won 113-97.

Musa finished second in scoring (19 points) for Long Island, only trailing Justin Anderson (22 points). Musa finished 8-for-12 from the floor (1-for-2 from 3-point territory). He also had eight rebounds, but he did commit six turnovers.

Pinson had a much quieter showing against Capital City. He scored five points on 2-for-9 shooting, grabbed three boards and had two assists.

Nets assign Theo Pinson, Dzanan Musa to Long Island

Theo Pinson and Dzanan Musa will play for Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, on Monday.

While their Brooklyn Nets teammates have the day off on Monday, Theo Pinson and Dzanan Musa are set to see game action. The pair was assigned to Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, on Monday ahead of their game against the Grand Rapids Drive (Pistons).

Pinson has played in two games for Long Island this season, averaging 13 points, four rebounds and three assists between the appearances.

Pinson has played in 27 games for Brooklyn in 2019-20. He’s averaging 4.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in those games.

Musa is making his first appearance for Long Island this season. Last year, Musa played in 36 games for Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, starting in 34 contests. He averaged 19.5 points per game on 43.9% shooting. Musa also grabbed 6.4 rebounds per game and dished out 3.6 assists a night.

Musa has played in 32 games for Brooklyn this year. He’s averaging 4.3 points and 2.1 rebounds a game.

The Nets and Drive tip-off at 7 p.m. The game is available on NBAGLeague.com.

Nets assign trio to Long Island

Dzanan Musa, Nic Claxton and Theo Pinson have been assigned to Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets.

The Brooklyn Nets assigned three players to the G League on Monday: Nic Claxton, Dzanan Musa and Theo Pinson.

Claxton was with Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, on Saturday. In Long Island’s 119-109 win over the Greensboro Swarm, the Charlotte Hornets’ G League affiliate, Claxton logged his first double-double as a pro. In his 22 minutes of action, the Nets rookie score 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting (2-for-2 from 3-point territory) and corralled 10 rebounds. Claxton also blocked a shot and had one steal, as well.

Though both Musa and Pinson have been on assignment with Long Island at some point this season, both have yet to play in a game for Long Island in 2019-20, after appearing in 36 and 35 contests, respectively, last season.

Long Island is back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they play host to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the Indiana Pacers’ G League affiliate. The game can be seen on ESPN+.

Why Dzanan Musa could get more time in the short-term

Dzanan Musa’s opportunities in 2019-20 have been limited to this point. But Kenny Atkinson pointed out on Monday why he might get more time.

It seemed Brooklyn’s bench was more part of the resolution than the problem in Monday’s loss to the Orlando Magic. Although some of the Nets reserves weren’t as efficient with they’re shooting as one might hope, most found other ways to help.

This included Dzanan Musa, who scored four of his six points at the foul line (4-for-4), but only went 1-for-4 from the floor.

Musa provides the Nets with another ball-handler in a time where Kyrie Irving (right shoulder impingement) is out and Caris LeVert is back, but still not playing every night to ensure his thumb is OK.

This might lead Kenny Atkinson to turn to the 20-year-old a bit more:

I though Musa gave us a real burst of energy. Having his ball-handling out there, I think we need that. We’ll probably have to look at that some more. Just [to] help our other guys with the ball-handling duties. Because he can play pick-and-roll. He can make a pass. I thought he was a real positive.

Nets run out of steam in 123-111 loss to Mavericks

The Brooklyn Nets reserves did their best to keep their team in the game, but the Dallas Mavericks proved to be too much to handle.

Luke Doncic found himself in foul trouble during the Mavericks’ matchup with the Nets on Thursday, but Brooklyn could not capitalize as Dallas won 123-111.

A large part of why the Nets couldn’t exploit Doncic’s foul trouble was the fact Spencer Dinwiddie ran into foul problems of his own.

Dinwiddie still led Brooklyn in scoring with 19 points and was efficient inside the arc (6-for-10), but he did not fare well from 3-point territory (1-for-4). Unfortunately for the Nets, Dinwiddie was not alone in his long-range struggles.

Joe Harris and Rodions Kurucs — the latter of which started in place of the injured Garrett Temple (right knee contusion) — each went 1-for-6 from three. Of the starters, Taurean Prince experienced the most success from deep. He went 3-for-9. Theo Pinson also struggled from three, finishing 1-for-5.

Dzanan Musa and Timothe Luwawu Cabarrot each went 2-for-3 from the perimeter. Musa scored 14 points off the bench, while Pinson and Wilson Chandler each pitched in 11 to match Harris and Prince’s output.

DeAndre Jordan started over Jarrett Allen for the first time since November. Jordan seized the opportunity and logged a double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds). Allen, meanwhile, scored nine points and grabbed six boards despite playing three more minutes.
