Raiders third-round OL Dylan Parham named among top 10 best fits in 2022 NFL draft

Dylan Parham named among best team fits in this year’s draft

This year, the Raiders had to be strategic in their approach to the draft being that they didn’t have a pick until 86 overall in the third round. Then when their pick came up, they traded back four spots to 90, picking up a round five pick in the deal. And it appears they still got the right guy with their first pick.

The Raiders selected Memphis guard Dylan Parham, who is projected as a center at the NFL level.

Parham topped my list of Raiders draft targets at the center position and thus the selection made immediate sense to me. Then the Athletic’s NFL analyst Ted Nguyen put out his list of the top ten best fits in the NFL draft and Parham made that list, all I could do was nod along in approval.

“Watching the film, Parham looks like a high-level processor, his eyes are always in the right place, he smoothly picks up blitzes and stunts and his feel for coming off double teams and getting to the second level is impeccable. McDaniels’ run scheme was among the most diverse in the league with the Patriots, so he needs offensive linemen who can handle that type of volume mentally.”

Nguyen posts several clips which back up his points about Parham’s intelligence and athleticism which translate to the center position, which is in play for Parham on a team whose offensive line was far from set last season.

Although the previous Raiders regime gave an extension to center Andre James last season, the new one isn’t going to automatically hand him a spot. I believe Parham has a legit chance to win the job and could add more physicality inside to an offensive line that desperately needs it.

Following the selection of Parham, GM Dave Ziegler said Parham would be ‘cross-trained’ at center and guard and will be given the opportunity to win the starting center job.

Broncos undrafted free agent tracker: View the team’s UDFA signings

We are tracking all of the Broncos’ undrafted free agent signings on this page.

After selecting nine players in the 2022 NFL draft, the Denver Broncos have room for 10 undrafted free agents signings. We will be tracking all of the team’s UDFA moves on this page.

Fans should note that none of these signings are official until confirmed by the team. Sometimes players are invited to rookie minicamp on a tryout basis and mistakenly reported as UDFA signings. The official list from the team will arrive in the coming days.

2. Alabama LB Chris Allen (source)
3. Buffalo LB Kadofi Wright (source)
4. Minot State OL Sebastian Gutierrez (source)
5. App State WR Jalen Virgil (source)
6. NC State TE Dylan Parham (source)

Before the draft, Broncos general manager George Paton noted that this year’s UDFA class is deeper than usual because of COVID-19 extending college careers for many prospects.

“[The] free agent class will be a lot deeper,” Paton said last Friday. “Last year’s free agent class, I mean, we were done in about five minutes. … It just wasn’t as deep, so I expect there to be a deeper class in the later rounds and college free agency.”

Last year’s UDFA class included outside linebacker Andre Mintze, who is now a key special teams player for Denver.

Raiders 3rd round pick Dylan Parham to be ‘cross-trained’ at center, guard

Dylan Parham will be given every opportunity to seize a starting job at either center or guard for Raiders

All through the draft process, the Raiders have talked about valuing versatility, particularly along the offensive line. So, when they made Dylan Parham their first pick at 90 overall, it made a whole lot of sense.

Parham has extensive experience, starting every game over the past four seasons for Memphis at both guard spots as well as right tackle. And since he started the draft process, the book on him is that he translates to the center position in the pros.

He began his college career starting two seasons at left guard. Then after a season at right tackle, he earned First Team All AAC at right guard. The Raiders could potentially use him at either guard or center and his ability to do both made him all the more intriguing.

“Definitely a part of the allure,” said GM Dave Ziegler of Parham’s versatility. “The value of a guy that can come in and play two spots. Just adds depth to your team. That’s an important part of the evaluation. Allows you the opportunity to add more players to the game.”

Parham, of course, said he would play wherever the Raiders ask him to play. The center position comes with a longer list of demands than guard, so there are reasons why NFL talent evaluators see him translating to center.

“I feel like center-wise, my intelligence,” said Parham. “I’ve had 51 starts throughout my time at Memphis so I’ve seen a lot of football. I’ve learned a lot of different things, seeing defenses and things like that, so I feel like it’s a combination of a lot of things.”

There is a large group of interior lineman on this Raiders team, but none of them have a lock on a spot. Parham will be thrown into that mix with the opportunity to earn a starting job.

“We’re going to let him come in and see what he can do,” said Ziegler. “And the more he can do, we’re going to allow him to do. We’re not going to set out with ‘you’re going to start here or start there. We’ll just give him an opportunity and see where it goes.”

“All our offensive linemen, they all get cross-trained across the board. . . The interior guys all work at guard and center. He’ll be no different than all the other guys on our team. We’ll give all the guys opportunities to work at both spots.”

Front Center: Is Memphis’ Dylan Parham actually the best draft fit for Cowboys?

The athletic offensive lineman from Memphis has never actually started at center. Tyler Browning (@DiabeticTyler) looks into the film to see if it’s his best projection.

We’ve already talked about the top target at center in Tyler Linderbaum, but how about some alternate mid-round options in case he is off the board. Memphis offensive lineman Dylan Parham. He is labeled as an offensive lineman, rather than center, because of the number of positions he played in his time at Memphis. In his 5 year career at Memphis Parham played 28 games at left guard, 11 games at right tackle, and 11 at right guard. He never actually started a game as a center though that’s where most analysts project his future position.

He is an exceptional mover in space, has some power to his game and of course offers great positional flexibility. We all know the Dallas Cowboys love positional versatility among their offensive lineman, so does he fit with the Cowboys?

The most underrated prospects in the 2022 NFL draft class

Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar reveals his most underrated prospects in the 2022 NFL draft class.

When we media yahoos talk about “sleepers” in any draft class, it’s true what NFL teams will tell you — it’s generally a case of the media simply catching up to what those teams have known about those prospects for months. Perception versus reality means that what we’re really talking about are prospects we’re just getting around to after the top-tier players at every position.

So, maybe it’s better to say for the purposes of this exercise that the prospects you see here are the ones whose tape stands out beyond the recognition they’ve gotten. With days to hours left until the 2022 draft, these players are the ones you may not have heard of, or have experienced in passing but haven’t watched, or have watched and wondered where they might be drafted.

Any of these guys going in the first round would be a longshot, but they each have remarkable attributes that show their professional potential, and could seal their NFL futures.

2022 NFL draft: 49ers host interior OL on pre-draft visit

The #49ers met with an offensive line prospect with 50 consecutive starts at three different positions in college.

The 49ers should be in the hunt for interior offensive line help in this year’s draft. One of the interior OL expected to be in the mix for them with their trio of Day 2 picks is Memphis OL Dylan Parham, who visited with San Francisco on Wednesday per NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Parham doesn’t have great size at 6-3, 311 pounds, but he brings a ton of experience at three positions. He started all 14 games for Memphis at left guard during his redshirt-freshman season, then did the same as a sophomore. In his junior year he started every game at right tackle, then moved to right guard and started all 11 games as a senior.

His size will likely keep him from being in the mix at tackle in the pros, but his ability to be effective at both guard spots makes him a very valuable player to a 49ers club that has holes at both positions.

Parham is considered to be a Day 2 pick by most NFL draft analysts. San Francisco holds three picks – 61, 93 and 105 – on the second day of the draft. If he’s the selection he’d quickly become the favorite to start at one of the two openings on the interior of the 49ers’ offensive line.

Giants load up in latest Dane Brugler mock draft

Dane Brugler has released his 7-round mock draft and in it, the New York Giants get the best projected haul we’ve seen yet.

Three edge rushers go off the board over the first four picks in Dane Brugler’s latest mock draft for The Athletic, which certainly thins things out for the New York Giants.

With offensive lineman Ikem Ekwonu also going to the Houston Texans at No. 4 overall, it leaves the Giants with few ideal options. But one of those just so happens to be Alabama offensive tackle Evan Neal.

Regardless of what happens with the first four picks, the organization and first-year general manager Joe Schoen have to feel good about what will be left for them at No. 5. Neal offers outstanding flexibility, both as a 340-pound blocker and with his versatility to play right tackle or guard.

As anticipated, the Carolina Panthers then select a quarterback (Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett), leaving the Giants with a choice between Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner and Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton.

They choose the sauce.

If the Giants are unable to trade back and add draft assets for next year, a plug-and-play blocker at No. 5 and shut down corner at No. 7 feels like the ideal scenario for Schoen and the Giants. Gardner has the length, speed and confidence that should translate well to the pro game.

In Round 2, Brugler sees the Giants add to their pass rush with the selection of Penn State’s Arnold Ebiketie.

From there, the Giants make the following selections:

  • No. 67: Dylan Parham, OG/C, Memphis
  • No. 81: John Metchie, WR, Alabama
  • No. 112: James Cook, RB, Georgia
  • No. 147: Dane Belton, S, Iowa
  • No. 173: Isaiah Likely, TE, Coastal Carolina
  • No. 182: Jeremiah Gemmel, LB, North Carolina

Arguably, this is the best seven-round mock draft we’ve seen for the Giants all year. It addresses most of their primary needs and many of their secondary needs, leaving them in much better shape than pre-draft. However, there’s no guarantee Belton will come in and have immediate impact and although intelligent, Gemmel doesn’t really provide the Giants the impact linebacker they are seeking.

But that’s the issue the Giants face — even with nine selections in the draft. Their roster is so thinned out that no matter how well they do in the draft, areas of need will remain.

Still, this draft would satisfy most Giants fans.

Memphis OL prospect Dylan Parham visits Jags

The Jags received a visit from another offensive line prospect today.

The Jacksonville Jaguars added All-Pro and Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff in free agency in addition to franchise tagging left tackle Cam Robinson, but they may not be done adding to the offensive line this offseason. They’ve brought in a few offensive linemen like Evan Neal and Ikem Ekwonu for visits, but haven’t stopped there.

According to his Instagram story feed, Memphis offensive lineman Dylan Parham visited the Jags on Thursday, too.

As mentioned above, the visit comes after the Jags were one of the teams conducting his pro day workout on March 24, so it appears they may have a great deal of interest in him.

The Jags lost center Brandon Linder this offseason after he retired, so the Jags could be looking at him as an option there (a position he played at the Senior Bowl), though he played guard and tackle at Memphis. But the most likely scenario for them would be to put him at guard as the Jags re-signed offensive lineman Tyler Shatley, who filled in for Linder on multiple occasions since he’s been on the team.

During his time with the Tigers, Parham played in 44 games, so he has plenty of experience coming into the league. Throughout his time there he took 881 snaps at right guard, 856 snaps at left guard, and 849 snaps at right tackle.

Parham is viewed as a Day 2 pick by draft analysts. It seems he could be on the board for one of the Jags’ third-round picks as they have selections No. 65 and No. 70 (from the Carolina Panthers) in their possession.
