Notre Dame commit highlights remind me of former Oregon star

Do you see any of the former @duckswire great in him?

Since Oregon football has turned into a powerhouse over the last 20 or so years regularly making BCS or New Year’s Six games they’ve had a good amount of stars.

Akili Smith was a top-five pick and although his NFL career didn’t pan out, he was a stud in college.  The same can be said for former “NCAA Football” video game cover boy Joey Harrington.  And who can forget the Dennis Dixon and Jonathan Stewart led Ducks team that could have won it all in 2007 had it not been for Dixon’s injury?

During this run of Oregon stars that would go on to include Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota, there wasn’t a Ducks player I enjoyed watching more than running back LaMichael James.  James had truly elite speed, packed quite the punch for checking in at 5’9”, 195-pounds, and was a human highlight reel who finished third in the Heisman voting as a sophomore in 2010.

Scanning Twitter on Friday night a few highlights of 2023 Notre Dame running back commitment [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag] showed up on my feed.  Although he’s got a long way to go in terms of matching James’ thickness (Edwards is currently listed at 165, 30 pounds less than James during his hey-day), the highlights of Edwards look awfully familiar if you watched those Oregon teams with James.

Watch: Notre Dame commitment goes off, scores 5 touchdowns

WOW

The courtship between Notre Dame and Kansas running back Dylan Edwards  was quite the quick rollercoaster. The Irish offered Edwards a scholarship on July 27, 2022 and just two days later he decommitted from instate Kansas State. A week later, Edwards committed to the Irish and it’s been all uphill since then. The 2021 Gatorade Player of the Year in Kansas might be a good bet to repeat that feat, especially after his game last night. Check out these highlights as Edwards runs all over his opponent en route to 5 touchdowns.

Elite running back posts a teaser video of a commitment to Notre dame

Interesting

The Irish have been looking for another running back in their 2023 class to join [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag] and [autotag]Jayden Limar[/autotag]. Head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] has his sights on [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag], the 6-foot and 190-pound Missouri running back.

Love is viewed as a national top-100 prospect. He holds offers from Alabama, Oregon, Texas A&M, Michigan, Georgia and plenty of others. He is an elite talent that would be more than welcomed into the Irish running back room, but will that happen.

Well, this tweet by Love seems to stoke the fire that he could be heading a bit east to suit up to play his collegiate ball.

It’s a great mix of pop culture and teasing a commitment to the Irish. At the moment, Love has not announced a commitment date, but if this tweet is an indication of what he is thinking, Notre Dame could be very happy when the announcement is made.

Notre Dame’s recruiting run continues, adds 2024 offensive lineman

The recruiting run continues

The Irish Football team is on an absolute recruiting roll. Over the last three days starting on Thursday, Notre Dame gained commitments in the 2023 class from linebacker [autotag]Jaiden Ausberry[/autotag], safety [autotag]Ben Minich[/autotag] and running back [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag].

Today, it was the 2024 classes turn for a verbal, as Pennsylvania offensive lineman Peter Jones committed to [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and offensive line coach [autotag]Harry Hiestand[/autotag]. The six-foot-five-inch and 295-pound mauler selected Notre Dame over offers from Penn State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and many others. Jones becomes the sixth commitment in the class and the first offensive lineman. It seems that the visit in April was a success.

This verbal was the biggest surprise of the group, as Jones did not have a set commitment date. Regardless, the Irish once again are off to a very good start with the 2024 class.

Watch: Speedy highlights of Notre Dame’s latest commitment

There is fast and then there is blazing fast and Notre Dame’s latest commitment is the latter.

The thing about watching athletes worthy of Division I scholarships on tape against your average high schoolers is that of course they’re going to stand out.  If they didn’t then they almost certainly wouldn’t be seen as the prized recruiting prospects that they are.

Notre Dame landed a commitment from running back [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag] on Saturday, their third commit in the last three days.  If you’ve followed his recruiting at all there are probably two things you’re aware of:

  1. He was previously committed to Kansas State
  2. He’s really fast.  Like REALLY fast.

That’s at least what has been said about him and Notre Dame has undoubtedly improved their team speed as a whole in recent years by landing players like [autotag]Braden Lenzy[/autotag], [autotag]Chris Tyree[/autotag], and [autotag]Lorenzo Styles[/autotag].

The most impressive thing in Edwards film isn’t that he runs away from people but by just how much.  In watching below don’t just look at him running away from opponents but watch and enjoy just how badly he beats opponents to the angle they’re trying to catch him at.

The Irish make it three-for-three as they gain another 2023 commit

A massive span of three days for Irish recruiting

The end of this week looked like a massive one for Irish recruiting. The first domino was Louisiana linebacker [autotag]Jaiden Ausberry[/autotag], who committed on Thursday. Yesterday, it was Ohio safety [autotag]Ben Minich[/autotag] who verbally committed to the Irish. Two-for-two with just one other announcement remaining, Kansas running back [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag].

The talented runner made his decision and once again Notre Dame fans should be extremely happy. Edwards like Ausberry and Minich made his decision in favor of the Irish, giving Notre Dame another weapon in the backfield in the future. It was a quick flip for Edwards, who just last week was committed to Kansas State.

Edwards brings the Irish 2023 class to twenty-three total members and once again tops the 247Sports composite team rankings. It’s safe to say that the past three days have been extremely prosperous for [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and now the class is close to being complete.

4-star Oregon target RB Dylan Edwards announces commitment

The Ducks were in the mix until the end, but ultimately couldn’t land 4-star RB Dylan Edwards.

The recruitment of Dylan Edwards has been a rollercoaster ride.

Earlier this summer, the 4-star running back out of Kansas announced his decision to stay home and commit to the Kansas State Wildcats. About a month later, though, Edwards announced his de-commitment a couple of days after receiving an offer from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Now, Edwards appears ready to make his decision, which we can assume will be final. Edwards announced on Saturday that he would be committing to Notre Dame and joining one of the top recruiting classes in the nation.

It came down to three schools, and the Oregon Ducks were certainly in the mix until the end. Ultimately, though, Carlos Locklyn wasn’t able to pry away Edwards, who is ranked as the No. 19 RB and No. 324 overall player in the 2023 class.

The Ducks have 4-star RB Dante Dowdell already in the 2023 class but would love to add one more blue-chip player to the mix down the road.

For second day in a row Notre Dame lands 2023 defensive commitment

What does this class still need to add in your eyes?

Notre Dame has ended the work-week strong in terms of recruiting as Friday saw them land a commitment on the defensive side of the football for the second day in a row in regards to the 2023 class.

Thursday it was four-star linebacker [autotag]Jaiden Ausberry[/autotag] who they pulled from the literal shadows of LSU’s Tiger Stadium in earning a commitment.  Friday it was a recent Ohio offer that announced he’d be playing football at Notre Dame.

[autotag]Ben Minich[/autotag], a three-star safety from Cincinnati announced it was Notre Dame for him Friday, choosing the Irish over Cincinnati, Duke, and Wake Forest as finalists.

Minich checks in at 5-11.5, 185-pounds and is about to get his senior season underway at Lakota High School in Cincinnati.  He had roughly 25 scholarship offers in full, including from Power Five programs Iowa State, Oklahoma, Purdue, Indiana, and Wisconsin just to name a few.

Minich adds depth at safety in the 2023 class as he’s the third at the position to commit.  He joins [autotag]Peyton Bowen[/autotag] and [autotag]Adon Shuler[/autotag] in the class, providing valuable insurance if one of those is to ultimately change their college decision.

Notre Dame now has the top ranked recruiting class in 2023 according to 247Sports as the Irish edge Alabama by a nose.  Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, and Oklahoma round out the top six.

[autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and Notre Dame hope it doesn’t take long for commitment number-23 to come in as the Irish are a finalist for running back [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag] who is set to announce his college decision on Saturday.

The Irish land Ausberry, talented linebacker commits to Notre Dame

The start to what could be a huge recruiting stretch for the Irish

Although recruiting seems to take a break for the Irish, this weekend has been set up to be a big one. The first portion of the potential commitments was Louisiana linebacker [autotag]Jaiden Ausberry[/autotag].

The six-foot-one-inch and 210-pound ‘backer went to Instagram live and verbally committed to Notre Dame over LSU, Michigan, Alabama, Florida and a host of others. Ausberry becomes the 21st commitment of the 2023 recruiting class that has been among the top rated classes. [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] has been on top of his game since coming to South Bend and the commitment from Ausberry just solidifies the magnificent job the new Irish head coach has done.

The banner weekend is set to continue for the Irish as a commitment from safety [autotag]Ben Minich[/autotag] on Friday and then running back [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag] would be the perfect scenario. Ausberry committing should not be taken lightly or a back seat to a verbal from Minich or Edwards, he’s one of the best players in the country.

Four-star safety to announce commitment Friday, Notre Dame among finalists

The Irish class could be growing again

It very well could be a banner weekend for the Irish. We already knew that running back [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag] plans to make his pledge on Saturday, and linebacker [autotag]Jaiden Ausberry[/autotag] plans his announcement later today.

Another Notre Dame target has made his decision date known. Ohio safety [autotag]Ben Minich[/autotag] tweeted he plans to make his intentions known on Friday, at 6 p.m. EDT. Minich will pick from Stanford, Oklahoma, Cincinnati, Kentucky and the Irish. He will do it via his YouTube page, which is a bit different from other prospects however it gives many the ability to watch his decision live.

The 6-foot-1-inch and 185-pound safety would be a very solid addition to the Notre Dame 2023 recruiting class. The recruitment of Minich really has blown up during the summer months, and he is ready to make a decision.
