LSU in MLB: Dylan Crews invited to Nationals spring training

Former LSU baseball star Dylan Crews could be gearing up to make his MLB debut with Washington later this year.

The Washington Nationals invited former LSU star [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] to spring training as a non-roster invitee.

It doesn’t come as a surprise given Crews is already 21 and was the second overall pick last year, going one selection behind his former LSU teammate [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag].

After beginning his professional career, it didn’t take long for Crews to start moving up. He played just one game in rookie ball before playing 14 games in Single-A.

After posting a 1.068 OPS in Single-A, he was off to Double-A ball. Crews struggled there, hitting just .208, but he was nearly three years younger than the average player.

If Crews gets off to a hot start in the minors, there’s a chance he could make his MLB debut later this year. The spring training invite signals the Nationals hope for that.

In three years at LSU, Crews hit above .340 every year, posting a .426 batting average in his final season as he helped lead LSU to a national title.

Two LSU baseball players named preseason All-Americans by D1Baseball

LSU is expecting big years from Tommy White and Luke Holman.

We’re less than a month away from LSU baseball beginning its national title defense, and the preseason honors are rolling in.

[autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] and [autotag]Luke Holman[/autotag] were named preseason All-American by D1Baseball.

White is expected to be one of the top hitters in the sport after a 2023 campaign that saw him homer 24 times while driving in 105 runs. Along with that, he posted a .725 slugging and a 1.158 OPS.

Holman, who was one of the best available transfers on the market, joins LSU after spending two years at Alabama. In 15 starts last year, he had an ERA of 3.67 to go along with 87 strikeouts in 81 innings.

LSU needs big years from both White and Holman. White will be expected to anchor the lineup with [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] and [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] gone.

LSU will be counting on Holman to help replace the void left in the rotation with [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] and [autotag]Ty Floyd[/autotag] now playing professional baseball.

LSU will begin its 2024 season on Friday, Feb. 16 when it hosts VMI at The Box.

LSU ranked No. 2 in Baseball America’s preseason top 25

It is going to be another great season to be at Alex Box Stadium.

Baseball America has released its 2024 preseason top 25 and the defending national champions find themselves inside the top five of the initial rankings.

[autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] and the LSU Tigers are ranked as the No. 2 team in the country by Baseball America. That puts the Tigers just behind the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and just ahead of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Florida Gators.

LSU had to beat all three of those teams en route to their 2023 national championship.

LSU lost two of their star players from the 2023 team as [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] were drafted at No. 1 and No. 2 overall in the 2023 MLB draft. The Tigers lost those two and more impact players but they have a few stars returning.

[autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] is back at third base, [autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag] is back on the mound as the Tigers’ ace and [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] is back at first base.

It is going to be another great season to be at Alex Box Stadium.

Two LSU Tigers make the top 5 in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 prospects list

The No. 1 and No. 2 picks in the 2023 MLB draft find themselves inside the top five.

MLB Pipeline has put out their 2023 top 100 prospects, and there are two former Tigers in the top five.

The No. 1 and No. 2 picks in the 2023 MLB draft, [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] are the two guys that find themselves inside the top five.

Skenes is listed as the No. 3 prospect on the Top 100 list. Skenes measures in at 6-foot-6, 235 pounds and he was selected as the No. 1 pick in the draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates after going 13-2 with a 1.69 ERA against some of the best teams in the country. Skenes appeared in five games in the Pirates minor leagues after he was drafted and he was shut down until 2024.

Crews is listed as the No. 4 prospect on the top 100 list. Crews measures in at 6-foot, 205 pounds, and he was selected as the No. 2 pick in the Draft by the Washington Nationals after finishing 2023 with a .426 batting average, .567 on-base percentage, and .713 slugging percentage. He hit 16 doubles, two triples, 18 homers, and had 17 RBI. Crews appeared in 35 games after he was drafted and had a .292 batting average.

Where does LSU rank on D1Baseball’s preseason top 25?

D1Baseball has released its much-anticipated preseason top 25.

College baseball is right around the corner and to celebrate, D1Baseball has released its much anticipated top 25 as we head into the 2024 season.

[autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] and the LSU Tigers ended the 2023 season in the best way possible. The Tigers beat the Florida Gators in the College World Series to become national champions.

They lost a few guys and two of the key pieces went No. 1 and No. 2 in the 2023 MLB draft. [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] led the Tigers through the regionals, super regionals, and the World Series and now they are gone. How will LSU rebound from those losses in 2024?

D1Baseball has LSU as the No. 4 team in the country as we head into 2024. It is not about where you start, it’s about where you finish the season. LSU is behind No. 1 Wake Forest, No. 2 Florida and No. 3 Arkansas to start the year.

LSU will likely face at least two out of three of those teams this spring.

WATCH: LSU baseball reminisces on 2023 national championship

There are only 50 more days until opening day for college baseball.

There are only 50 more days until opening day for college baseball. The LSU Tigers will start their national title defense on Feb. 16, against VMI. The Tigers will play in a four-game weekend series as they take on VMI twice and Central Arkansas twice at Alex Box Stadium.

While LSU no longer has [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] (who went No. 1 and No. 2 overall in the 2023 MLB draft), [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] has assembled a very talented team through high school recruiting and via the transfer portal. [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] is back and he is here to hit homers once again. [autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag] is back ready to deal out some nasty pitches as well.

LSU finished 2023 with a 54-17 overall record and a 19-10 record in conference play. The Tigers won the national championship after taking two out of three games from the Florida Gators in the College World Series. I think LSU has a great shot at doing it again this year.

Two Tigers make MLB Pipeline’s initial first-round mock draft

MLB Pipeline has released its first mock for the 2024 MLB draft, and two LSU Tigers have made the first round.

MLB Pipeline has released its first mock for the 2024 MLB draft, and two LSU Tigers have made the first round. One of them is a superstar third baseman and the other is a pitcher that had a great performance in Omaha.

With the 10th overall pick of the 2024 MLB Draft, MLB Pipeline has the Washington Nationals selecting [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag], a third baseman from LSU. I guess the Nationals are just going to try to make a team full of LSU players as the Nats took [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] and [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] in the 2023 MLB draft. White was a transfer from NC State where his claim to fame was hitting a lot of homers. That mantra lived on in Baton Rouge last spring.

With the 18th pick of the 2024 MLB draft, MLB Pipeline has the Tampa Bay Rays taking [autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag], a right-handed pitcher from LSU. Hurd was a transfer from UCLA who took his lumps at the start of the 2023 season but wound up as one of the best pitchers in LSU’s rotation. He put on a show in Omaha that helped lead LSU to a national championship.

LSU sets a new SEC record after Jayden Daniels won the Heisman

The Tigers set another record last night that you may not have even realized.

On Saturday night, the best player in college football earned the award that we all knew he would win. [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] became the third Heisman Trophy winner in LSU history. [autotag]Billy Cannon[/autotag] (1959) and [autotag]Joe Burrow[/autotag] (2019) were the other two Heisman winners from Baton Rouge.

The Tigers set another record last night that not many people even thought about. LSU became the first SEC school to have a player win the Golden Spikes Award (best player in college baseball) and the Heisman Trophy from the same school in the same year.

[autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] won the Golden Spikes Award after leading LSU baseball to a national championship with a win over Florida in the College World Series. Crews had a season batting average of .426 with 16 doubles, two triples, 18 homers, and 70 RBI.

Those stats led to him being selected as the No. 2 overall draft pick of the 2023 MLB draft by the Washington Nationals. Crews was picked one spot behind teammate [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] who was drafted No. 1 overall by the Pirates.

LSU baseball adds 2025 commit

LSU continues to build its stellar 2025 recruiting class.

[autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] and LSU baseball kept it rolling on the recruiting trail this week.

Outfielder [autotag]William Patrick[/autotag] from Monroe, Louisiana, committed to the Tigers. Patrick is a multisport athlete who also plays wide receiver for the St. Frederick football team.

According to Perfect Game, Patrick is the 15th commit of LSU’s 2025 class.

2025 is shaping up to be another strong class, but it always takes a while to sort out baseball classes with the best players always having an option of turning pro.

But LSU’s figured out how to get some top rated high school talent on campus, convincing [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] to attend school a few years ago and landing pitcher [autotag]Cam Johnson[/autotag] earlier this year.

LSU’s classes always rank among the sports best and Johnson’s continued that trend after arriving in Baton Rouge. The Tigers are currently in the midst of fall ball as they prepare to defend their national title in the spring.
