Green Bay Packers select QB Michael Pratt in 7th round of NFL draft

Pratt joins Jordan Love in Green Bay

The Green Bay Packers picked Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt with the 245th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL draft on Saturday.

Pratt (6-2, 217 pounds) spent four years with the Green Wave, completing 60.6% of his passes for 9,611 yards with 90 touchdowns against 26 interceptions. He also rushed for 28 touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass in college, giving him 119 total scores.

Pratt had the best season of his college career as a junior in 2022 when he threw for 3,009 yards and 27 touchdowns and rushed for 478 yards and 10 scores. Last year, his passing totals dipped to 2,406/22 and his rushing numbers fell to 286/5 (Tulane played two fewer games in 2023 than in 2022).

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein projected Pratt as a fourth-round pick. Draft Wire’s Jeff Risdon had Pratt ranked as the eighth-best QB in this year’s class behind Jayden Daniels, Caleb Williams, J.J. McCarthy, Bo Nix, Drake Maye, Michael Penix and Spencer Rattler.

After earning first-team All-AAC recognition as a senior last fall, Pratt now enters the NFL as a 22-year-old rookie set to turn 23 in September.

Saints select Spencer Rattler in 5th round of NFL draft

Spencer Rattler enters the NFL as a 23-year-old rookie with four years of starting experience in college.

The New Orleans Saints selected quarterback Spencer Rattler with the 150th pick in the NFL draft. Rattler ended a drought of quarterbacks picked in the draft; at pick 150, the most recent quarterback before him was Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, taken with the 12th overall pick.

Rattler (6-0, 211 pounds) was a star quarterback at the University of Oklahoma, before being benched during the 2021 season in favor of this year’s number one overall pick, Caleb Williams.

After OU head coach Lincoln Riley left for the head coaching position at USC in 2022, taking Williams with him, Rattler entered the NCAA transfer portal, where he landed at the University of South Carolina. Rattler ended up playing more games for South Carolina (25) than at Oklahoma (23).

In 2023, Rattler passed for 3,186 yards, had a 68.9 completion percentage, and accounted for 23 total touchdowns (19 passing, four rushing) to only eight interceptions.

Draft Wire’s Natalie Miller had regarded Rattler at the lower end of the NFL draft’s top 75 players, where she placed him 67th out of 75.

Rattler was widely considered a mid-round quarterback prospect leading up to the draft. Rattler would be well-suited to being a developmental quarterback, learning from a veteran presence.

Eagles select Cooper DeJean in 2nd round of NFL draft

The Eagles picked cornerback Cooper DeJean in the second round of the NFL draft on Friday night.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean with the 40th overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft in Detroit on Friday night.

DeJean (6-1, 203 pounds) emerged as a starting cornerback in his second season at Iowa and earned second-team All-Big Ten recognition after breaking up eight passes and grabbing five interceptions (three of which he returned for touchdowns).

DeJean had a decorated final season in 2023, earning first-team All-American recognition, Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year honors and the Return Specialist of the Year award. He broke up five passes and recorded five interceptions while also returning 21 punts for 241 yards and one score.

Some draft pundits project DeJean to play as a safety in the NFL. Regardless of what his primary position ends up being, DeJean’s positional flexibility should help him win playing time. The 21-year-old prospect has played outside cornerback, slot cornerback and nickel safety. He will also contribute on special teams.

The Detroit Lions selected Alabama cornerback Terrion Arnold with the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft in Detroit on Thursday evening.

In 14 starts with the Crimson Tide, Arnold broke up 12 passes and totaled five interceptions last fall. He now enters the NFL as a 21-year-old rookie.

Many draft pundits had Arnold ranked as the No. 1 cornerback in this year’s class. Draft Wire’s Jeff Risdon has Arnold ranked No. 2 among cornerbacks behind Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell and above Iowa’s Cooper DeJean.

The Eagles picked cornerback Quinyon Mitchell in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft on Thursday night.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Toldeo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell with the 22nd overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft in Detroit on Thursday evening.

The Los Angeles Rams picked FSU pass rusher Jared Verse with the 19th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft in Detroit on Thursday evening.

Following five years at the college level, Verse enters the NFL as a 23-year-old rookie set to turn 24 in November.

The Broncos have their new quarterback! Denver lands Bo Nix at No. 12.

The Denver Broncos selected Oregon quarterback Bo Nix with the 12th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft in Detroit on Thursday evening.

Nix (6-2, 214 pounds) was considered by most pundits to be the fifth-best quarterback in this year’s class behind Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy. Those four QBs and Michael Penix were picked above Nix on Thursday.
