Duke baseball player Chad Knight goes viral for sports betting joke after college career ends

Chad Knight, whose collegiate career came to an end when Duke baseball got eliminated from the Norman Regional, went viral for a fun joke.

Duke baseball player Chad Knight went viral on social media for a fun little joke on Tuesday.

Knight, whose collegiate career came to an end when Oklahoma eliminated the Blue Devils from the Norman Regional on Sunday, wrote that, while he can’t play on the field anymore, he can gamble on college sports now.

“Goodbye college baseball,” Knight wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “Hello Draftkings.”

NCAA regulations of course prevent current student-athletes from gambling on themselves or other teams, but Knight no longer needs to maintain any eligibility with his senior season concluded and Duke’s graduation ceremony in the rearview mirror.

The post gathered more than 6,000 likes by 6:30 p.m. Eastern time with the (now former) Blue Devil joking in the replies about betting on the Little League World Series and creating generational wealth for himself. DraftKings itself even got in on the fun with a reply.

Knight also toyed with the idea of betting on every remaining ACC baseball team to win their Super Regional matchup.

Knight spent five seasons with the Blue Devils and finished with a career batting average of .264 with eight home runs and 61 RBIs across 137 career games.

He played in 18 games this past season and put together a career-high .316 average in his last collegiate season.

Here are LSU baseball’s odds to win its regional and the College World Series

Here are LSU’s odds to advance out of the Chapel Hill regional and win the College World Series.

LSU is back in the NCAA Tournament after a strong finish to the year, capped off by a run to the title game in the SEC Tournament.

LSU won the national title last year, but at points this season, it wasn’t expected to be back here. The Tigers struggled to replace the stars from last year’s team, like [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag], and it was evident in the early days of conference play.

But [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] got the young guys to settle in and LSU was resilient down the stretch. Now a No. 2 seed, the purple and gold will head to Chapel Hill to join a regional with North Carolina, Wofford and Long Island.

Here’s what the odds say about LSU’s chances this weekend. Regional odds are via DraftKings as of May 29.

Team Odds
North Carolina -110
LSU +110
Wofford +900
LIU +10000

The odds suggest this regional is a two-horse race with North Carolina and LSU leading the way.

North Carolina is the favorite. The Tar Heels have been the best team in this group for most of the year and their round one game against LIU is a more favorable position than LSU taking on Wofford.

Looking at the big picture, LSU is +1600 to win the national championship, according to FanDuel. That ties LSU with Wake Forest and UNC for the fifth best odds nationally. DraftKings slots LSU higher at +900, which gives the Tigers’ the third-best odds in the country.

These odds might feel high for a team that didn’t have a winning record in SEC play, but even Massey’s power rating has LSU as the eighth-best team in the country.

But for LSU to win the national title, it needs to get out of Chapel Hill first. According to simulations run by Parker Fleming, LSU has just a 21.2% chance to do that.

This Xander Schauffele gambling promo video is the definition of cringeworthy

Blink twice if you need help, Xander.

Blink twice if you need help, Xander.

It’s a quiet time for the starts of the PGA Tour, especially those who aren’t participating in the Ryder Cup later this month in Rome. Although certain stars like Max Homa and Justin Thomas will tee it up next week at the Fortinet Championship in Napa, California, for the first event of the fall, many will take time off until the season kicks off in Hawaii come January.

That doesn’t mean we won’t see any of them. Schauffele, fresh off his runner-up finish at the 2023 Tour Championship, posted a promo video for Draft Kings to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday night.

Let’s just say, Schauffele is way better at golf than he is at promo videos. Although the latter isn’t easy, this one is cringeworthy.

Golf Twitter went to town roasting Schauffele for his performance. And how could you blame them?

Let’s just hope he brings his A-game to Marco Simone for the Ryder Cup.

DraftKings sets projected win totals for every Big 12 football team

Texas and Oklahoma lead the way in projected win totals.

Early win total projections are out for the 2023 college football season. The numbers are consistent with what many expect for the upcoming season.

Recently we shared game-by-game predictions for the football program heading into the fall. Texas saw a 10-2 prediction with signature victories over Alabama and Oklahoma and upset losses to TCU and Iowa State. We recently discussed why TCU and Iowa State are likely upsets.

My record predictions slotted Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, TCU and BYU as primary contenders for the Big 12 crown. Kansas State and Oklahoma figure to be around 9 to 11 win teams while Texas Tech, TCU, BYU, Kansas and Baylor stand as wild card picks to win the conference.

Here’s a look at the national view on where Big 12 teams land in conference hierarchy.

Beat Bettis challenge: Can you defeat Jerome Bettis in fantasy football?

Former Pittsburgh Steeler and Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis is challenging you to a weekly fantasy series to win cash and prizes.

Former Steeler and Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis has teamed up with Modelo and DraftKings to celebrate the return of football.

In doing so, Bettis has a challenge for you: Beat him in fantasy football –DraftKings style — with the Beat Bettis challenge.

The fantasy football series, exclusively on DraftKings, gives NFL fans who “beat Bettis” a $5,000 split. After the nine-week contest ends, the grand prize winner gets a trip for two to Las Vegas and two tickets to a future Las Vegas Raiders football game.

In talking with Bettis, his enthusiasm was evident. He’s thrilled about the Beat Bettis challenge and thinks fans should be, too.

“I’m excited to motivate fans to compete against me in this Beat Bettis challenge fantasy football series,” Bettis told Steelers Wire. “If they can beat my score each week, then they’ll have a chance to share in $5,000. If they can bring their fighting spirit week-to-week and go head-to-head against me, if they think they have what it takes, then all they have to do is sign up, and we can get it on!”

“Teaming up with Modelo is that it’s such an authentic partnership,” Bettis said. “We both champion the fighting spirit, and that’s really what motivated me to want to be involved in this partnership.”

“When I think about my fighting spirit, it showed itself when I was going to retire back in ’04, and I decided to come back for another year to try to become a champion. That’s where I was really able to see it in me, burning brightly.”

To help tell the story of Bettis’ fighting spirit, Modelo produced a short appropriately titled, “The Fighting Spirit of Jerome Bettis“. To film the spot, Bettis returned to the scene of his last stop in Detroit and was flooded with emotions reminiscing about the 2006 Super Bowl.

“To go back to certain spots on the field and think about those moments… Coming out of the tunnel and remembering all of those Terrible Towels swirling, and the energy that was in the building, it was really special. To know that [the Steelers] had the fighting spirit. That’s what it was about.”

That’s why it all ties in to [the campaign] with Modelo.
