Update Aug. 19, 2020, 4:47 p.m.

The Bills have signed ex-Jets punter Lachlan Edwards, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. To make room for Edwards, Buffalo cut another ex-Jet, legman Kaare Vedvik.

A couple of former Jets are garnering some interest around the league.

According to the NFL’s transaction wire, ex-Jets punter Lachlan Edwards worked out for the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday, while former Jets safety Doug Middleton worked out for the Indianapolis Colts.

Edwards spent the first four years of his career as a Jet after being picked by them in the seventh round out of Sam Houston State in 2016. He came over to the United States to play college football after growing up in Australia.

With the Jets, Edwards averaged 45.5 yards per punt and had 108 punts inside the 20-yard line. He was the NFL punting yards leader in 2019 as well. New York decided not to re-sign Edwards after drafting Braden Mann.

As for Middleton, he was with the Jets from 2016-2018 after going undrafted out of Appalachian State in 2016. He missed the 2017 season due to a pectoral injury but did start in four games in his time in New York. Middleton had 33 total tackles and four pass defenses with the Jets. He spent the 2019 season with the Dolphins and Jaguars.

Jags trim roster down to 80 players

The Jags waived three players Saturday and released veteran safety Doug Middleton. Their roster is now at 80 players.

The Jacksonville Jaguars started this weekend off by making some roster moves, now putting their team at 80 players. Three were waived in running back Tavien Feaster and offensive linemen Tyler Gauthier and Steven Nielson. They also made the decision to release third-year safety, Doug Middleton.

In terms of the names who were let go, none of the aforementioned players should surprise fans.

Feaster and Nielson joined the Jags after this year’s draft as undrafted free-agents and were projected to be practice squad players at best. Wright was also apart of the team’s 2020 undrafted rookie class, but with Josh Lambo being amongst the best kickers in football, the Jags may have simply wanted to get a look at him as a fallback option if an injury occurs in the regular season.

As for Middleton, he initially came into the league as an undrafted player in 2016 with the New York Jets (2016-18). After three seasons with them, he joined the Miami Dolphins last September before joining the Jags in November. Late in the season, he was moved to the active roster before the Jags’ game against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Jags had until August 16 to trim their roster down to 80 players, and once that deadline arrives, they can keep 80 players until Sept. 5.

Jags promote safety Doug Middleton to active roster, waive Marcus Gilchrist

The Jags made a move a roster move within their secondary as Doug Middleton received a promotion from practice squad.

The Jacksonville Jaguars made one transaction Wednesday that involved their main roster as safety Doug Middleton was promoted from their practice squad. To make room for the transaction, the team waived veteran safety Marcus Gilchrist.

Middleton, 26, joined the Jags’ practice squad in late November. He initially entered the league in 2016 as an undrafted free-agent from Appalachian State with the New York Jets. He spent time on both their practice squad and active roster but was eventually released by them this September. Afterward, he joined the Miami Dolphins briefly and was released around the middle of November.

Middleton is a player with some experience under his belt as he’s participated in 12 games and started in four. He’ll enter his tenure with the Jags with 33 tackles and four pass breakups.
