Colorado to release four-star center Doryan Onwuchekwa from NLI

Colorado and four-star center Doryan Onwuchekwa have agreed to part ways

About three months after signing his national letter of intent, Doryan Onwuchekwa and the Colorado men’s basketball program have agreed to part ways. Both parties announced on Friday that the class of 2024 prospect will be granted a release from his NLI.

Onwuchekwa, a 6-foot-10 center from Texas’ Faith Family Academy, is considered a four-star prospect on most recruiting websites. The 247Sports Composite ranks him as the No. 18 center and the No. 110 overall prospect in the 2024 class.

Per 247Sports, Onwuchekwa received an offer from CU last June before committing to head coach Tad Boyle’s program in September. He then took fall visits to Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Xavier before signing his NLI on Nov. 8.

Colorado’s 2024 signing class is now down to three members: four-star in-state combo guard Andrew Crawford, three-star California power forward Sebastian Rancik and three-star shooting guard Felix Kossaras, who hails from the Canadian province of Ontario.

CU men’s basketball: Three future Buffs nominated to 2024 McDonald’s All American Game

Three CU men’s basketball signees were nominated to the McDonald’s All American Game

Minus a few recent losses, the Colorado men’s basketball team has performed well in the 2023-2024 season and has the potential to make the NCAA Tournament.

The future looks bright for head coach Tad Boyle’s program, and a few class of 2024 signees were nominated to the McDonald’s All American Game: combo guard Andrew Crawford, power forward Sebastian (Sebi) Rancik and center Doryan Onwuchekwa.

With Cody Williams and Tristan da Silva likely going to the 2024 NBA draft, those three represent some needed talent for next year’s Buffs team.

The McDonald’s All American Game features some of the best high school players in the country, so the Buffs having three players nominated is quite an accomplishment and should help attract more players to Boulder going forward.

On the women’s side, Colorado had two players nominated: Grace Oliver and Tabitha Betson.

Rosters for the McDonald’s All American Games will be announced on Jan. 23, with both games (boys and girls) set for April 2.

CU men’s basketball receives commitment from 2024 four-star C Doryan Onwuchekwa

Four-star big man @DoryanChekwa represents Tad Boyle’s first 2024 commitment

Two days after sitting alongside Derrick White and Spencer Dinwiddie at Colorado football’s home opener, four-star center Doryan Onwuchekwa told On3’s Joe Tipton on Monday that he has committed to the Buffaloes men’s basketball program.

The 6-foot-10 Texas prospect represents head coach Tad Boyle’s first class of 2024 commitment.

Per On3, Onwuchekwa chose the Buffs over Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, TCU and Xavier.

“I chose Colorado because I felt that coach Boyle and the rest of the coaching staff can bring the best out of me,” Onwuchekwa told On3.

Onwuchekwa described himself to On3 as an “inside-out scorer” and an “elite interior defender,” two qualities that should work well in Boyle’s system.

The 247Sports Composite ranks Onwuchekwa as the No. 29 center and the No. 159 overall prospect in his class.

Colorado also hosted two other highly-touted 2024 prospects over the weekend: four-star California combo guard Trent Perry and Slovakia native Sebastian Rancik.
