Tad Boyle quietly owns one of college basketball’s top 2024 recruiting classes

Tad Boyle’s 2024 recruiting class has quietly become one of college basketball’s top-ranked groups

Ever so quietly, Colorado men’s basketball head coach Tad Boyle has put together one of the nation’s top 2024 recruiting classes.

Following the commitment of four-star shooting guard Felix Kossaras on Tuesday, the Buffs’ four-deep class now ranks No. 9 overall, according to 247Sports. In-state combo guard Andrew Crawford, Slovakian forward Sebastian Rancik and Texas center Doryan Onwuchekwa represent Colorado’s other three pledges.

Kossaras, Boyle’s latest and likely final 2024 addition, is a taller guard at 6-foot-5 (some list him as 6-foot-6) who hails from Fort Erie International in Ontario, Canada. His other college offers include Ole Miss, Temple, Missouri, Santa Clara and Wichita State.

The 247Sports Composite ranks Kossaras as the No. 101 overall prospect in his class and the No. 19 shooting guard.

With KJ Simpson, Tristan da Silva and Cody Williams highlighting this season’s squad, Boyle has the Buffs set up for long-term success as well.

Top in-state prospect Andrew Crawford commits to CU Buffs

The top overall 2024 prospect in Colorado gave his commitment to the #cubuffs

Colorado fans needed something positive to discuss after Friday’s loss to Stanford and they got it courtesy of Tad Boyle’s men’s basketball program.

Per Joe Tipton of On3, 2024 four-star recruit Andrew Crawford gave his commitment to the Buffaloes. The 6-foot-6, 175-pound combo guard is a senior at ThunderRidge High School in Littleton and is rated as the No. 1 prospect in Colorado by 247Sports.

Crawford told On3 that Boyle’s coaching staff was a primary factor in his decision to choose the Buffs:

“The commitment they showed me from day one was incomparable,” Crawford told On3. “The coaching staff was always present at my practices and games. I took an official visit my junior year which was a great experience, where I got to meet all the wonderful staff they have there. Another huge influence is Steve (Englehart) who is the strength trainer there. He has proven to transform players bodies in the past, so I’m super excited to start training with him.”

The Colorado product also held offers from Oregon, Stanford, Northwestern, Colorado State, Denver and others.

Crawford marks Boyle’s second class of 2024 commitment. Three-star center Doryan Onwuchekwa gave his pledge last month.

CU men’s basketball receives commitment from 2024 four-star C Doryan Onwuchekwa

Four-star big man @DoryanChekwa represents Tad Boyle’s first 2024 commitment

Two days after sitting alongside Derrick White and Spencer Dinwiddie at Colorado football’s home opener, four-star center Doryan Onwuchekwa told On3’s Joe Tipton on Monday that he has committed to the Buffaloes men’s basketball program.

The 6-foot-10 Texas prospect represents head coach Tad Boyle’s first class of 2024 commitment.

Per On3, Onwuchekwa chose the Buffs over Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, TCU and Xavier.

“I chose Colorado because I felt that coach Boyle and the rest of the coaching staff can bring the best out of me,” Onwuchekwa told On3.

Onwuchekwa described himself to On3 as an “inside-out scorer” and an “elite interior defender,” two qualities that should work well in Boyle’s system.

The 247Sports Composite ranks Onwuchekwa as the No. 29 center and the No. 159 overall prospect in his class.

Colorado also hosted two other highly-touted 2024 prospects over the weekend: four-star California combo guard Trent Perry and Slovakia native Sebastian Rancik.

Colorado men’s basketball reportedly eyeing 2024 center Abraham Oyeadier

The #cubuffs are reportedly looking at a 6-foot-10 high school prospect from San Diego

Recruiting never stops at the college level as coaches are always looking at how to bolster their future squads.

Earlier this week, college basketball recruiting insider Dino Siervo reported that Colorado has reached out to Abraham Oyeadier, a 2024 center from San Diego.

Per NBA Scouting Live, the 6-foot-10 Oyeadier is an athletic big man who is strong on the defensive side of the ball but will need to refine his offensive game before he makes the jump to college.

As of now, Oyeadier is not ranked on 247Sports, although that could change quickly if he continues to develop. He most recently played for the Oakland Soldiers of the Nike EYBL.

Other schools that have contacted him include Princeton and BYU, according to Siervo.

Colorado makes four-star shooting guard Jared Harris’ top 10

Tad Boyle’s #cubuffs made four-star shooting guard Jared Harris’ top 10 schools

Four and five-star recruits being tied to head coach Tad Boyle’s Colorado men’s basketball program has been a common occurrence in recent years. This season’s incoming freshman class, for example, includes five-star Cody Williams and in-state four-star Assane Diop.

The Buffs are now in the hunt for class of 2024 four-star guard Jared Harris, who on Monday named Colorado to his top 10 schools along with Texas A&M, Arkansas, DePaul, Illinois, Kansas, LSU, Memphis, Mississippi State and Alabama.

Per 247Sports, the 6-foot-2 Texas prospect has official visits scheduled with Colorado and Texas A&M.

Here’s what 247Sports recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins wrote on Harris:

He brings great tools to the backcourt when factoring in his length, athleticism, and shooting prowess. His mentality and willingness to buy in will be key when discussing his level of efficiency and production at the collegiate level.

Boyle’s Buffs have yet to earn a 2024 commitment, although things are trending well for Colorado to land in-state four-star combo guard Andrew Crawford.

On3 predicts Colorado to land four-star combo guard Andrew Crawford

Colorado target @drewcrawford42, an in-state four-star recruit from ThunderRidge High School, is deciding between the #cubuffs and Stanford

The Colorado men’s basketball team is set for a big year with Cody Williams set to take over. The future of the program is bright, especially with the Buffs’ move to the Big 12 coming in 2024.

Head coach Tad Boyle is out there recruiting as always, and the Buffs are in the final two, along with Stanford, for four-star 2024 combo guard Andrew Crawford. Oct. 14 will be decision day for Crawford, and he is planning on visiting both of his top schools sometime in September, per Eric Bossi of 247Sports.

Crawford is a Colorado native from Littleton and is heading into his senior year at ThunderRidge High School as a top 100 recruit for 2024.

The 6-foot-6 prospect revealed why he narrowed it down to the Buffs and Cardinal (h/t 247Sports):

“Colorado for obvious reasons,” Crawford told 247Sports. “They’ve been on me since freshman year and I have to show them a level of respect because that was huge for me. They were on me when nobody else saw the vision and saw what I was going to be so I appreciate them a lot for that. Stanford because Stanford can set me up for life. They are one of the best schools in America and I’d be an idiot to not at least check it out.”

On3 national recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw recently predicted Colorado to land the prized in-state prospect:

College coaches taking notice of Colorado’s recruiting abilities

Other men’s basketball coaches across the country are taking notice of Colorado’s ability to recruit

The Colorado men’s basketball team missed the NCAA Tournament the past two seasons. However, head coach Tad Boyle has done an overall solid job in a tough Pac-12 Conference.

Heading into next season, the Buffs have incoming freshman Cody Williams, a top recruit in his class with some legitimate 2024 NBA draft hype.

With that, Colorado has become a well-known program in the recruiting world, and its ability to evaluate talent is a big reason why. Jamie Shaw of On3 Sports revealed which college men’s basketball programs are catching the attention of coaches when it comes to recruiting, and the Buffs made the list:

An SEC Coach: “Colorado is one that, if I hear they have offered someone, it gets my attention.”

The Buffs have had plenty of big names come in and out of the program recently, although the addition of Williams, who is already projected as a lottery pick by some, is surely going to attract the eyes of people across the country.

With Deion Sanders rejuvenating the football program, CU’s men’s and women’s basketball teams are also starting to gain some attention, and the future looks bright for athletic director Rick George in Boulder.

Top-ranked Texas prospect Robert Miller III names Colorado to top six

The No. 1 overall 2024 prospect in the state of Texas named Colorado to his top six

Another four-star forward in the class of 2024 is heavily considering a future with the Colorado men’s basketball program, according to On3’s Joe Tipton.

Soon after news dropped that the Buffs were in Jalen Shelley’s top eight, Tipton reported on Monday that Pasadena Memorial High School (Texas) power forward Robert Miller III named his top six schools: CU, AlabamaTexasArkansas, LSU and Oklahoma.

The 6-foot-10, 225-pound rising senior is a top-50 overall 2024 prospect and the No. 1 ranked player in the state of Texas (247Sports). As a junior, he averaged 19.7 points, 9.0 rebounds and 5.4 blocks in 32 games played.

Miller took an official visit to Boulder in early June and said that he enjoyed getting to know head coach Tad Boyle’s “down-to-earth” staff.

Colorado is looking to bounce back from a subpar 2022-23 campaign with the help of an impressive 2023 signing class, which features five-star forward Cody Williams, center Assane Diop, forward Courtney Anderson and center Bangot Dak.

Boyle has yet to land a 2024 commitment, but that appears set to change soon.

Four-star SF Jalen Shelley places CU Buffs in top eight

Colorado made the top eight for a four-star small forward

After putting together one of the nation’s best 2023 recruiting classes, CU men’s basketball head coach Tad Boyle is now looking for his first 2024 commit.

One of the more notable prospects being linked to the Buffs is rising senior Jalen Shelley, a four-star small forward who named Colorado to his top eight schools earlier this week, per Joe Tipton of On3. Shelley is also considering Arkansas, Houston, Louisville, LSU, Marquette, Ohio State and Texas A&M.

The 6-foot-8, 175-pound Shelley played his junior season at Prestonwood Christian Academy in Texas but will wrap his prep career at Link Academy in Missouri.

Shelley is ranked as the No. 46 overall 2024 prospect and the No. 14 SF (247Sports Composite).

Tipton reported that Shelley has taken unofficial visits to Louisville, Houston and Arkansas and is planning future trips to LSU, Arkansas (again), Texas A&M, Ohio State and Marquette.

CU women’s basketball offers 2024 forward out of Australia

Colorado is in pursuit of a 6-foot-2 forward out of Australia

Colorado women’s basketball head coach JR Payne is hot on the recruiting trails as the Buffs continue building their 2024 class.

They are now going international in their search. Tabitha Betson, an Australian forward who currently resides in Florida, announced on Twitter last week that she received a scholarship offer from the Buffs.

Per her Twitter, Betson has been playing for DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida and on the Australian U17 national team.

The 6-foot-2 rising high school senior made it easy for us to scout her by posting her highlights from the Deep South Tournament, which took place in Raleigh, North Carolina in April.

Betson showed some good back-to-the-basket skills and also played great post defense. She was even able to do her best Nikola Jokić impersonation, starting the breakaways after blocks or rebounds. She also has a solid mid-range game that could stretch out to the 3-point line — similar to Quay Miller.

She also owns offers from USF, UCF, Colorado State, Maryland, Clemson and others.
