Texas A&M TE Donovan Green has announced his transfer destination

Texas A&M tight end Donovan Green is headed to LSU after three seasons with the Aggies

Texas A&M’s historic 2022 recruiting class continues to dwindle. Only six of the 32 commits in the cycle remain in the program after tight end Donovan Green and wide receiver Noah Thomas entered the portal over the last two weeks.

Thomas, who committed to Georgia late last week, is the first former Aggie starter to find a new home for the 2025 season. On Saturday afternoon, Donovan Green announced his new transfer destination after three seasons with the Aggies.

After visiting LSU last week, Green committed to the Tigers, but on paper, this move does not guarantee that he will see the field based on the returning tight ends on the 2025 roster, outside of starter Mason Taylor, who declared for the NFL Draft.

Despite recovering from his ACL tear after the 2023 season, Green struggled to ascend the depth chart in coach Mike Elko’s first year with the program. He participated in seven games and primarily contributed on special teams without receptions.

Green’s playmaking ability was seen throughout his 2022 freshman season. The former four-star prospect looked like a perfect fit in Jimbo Fisher’s offense after recording 22 receptions, 233 yards, and two touchdowns. If he can regain his footing again, I wouldn’t be surprised if he regains his playmaking ways.

While it’s been a while since he’s seen consistent live-action, Green should be fresh and ready to go in 2025.

Texas A&M transfer tight end will visit LSU this weekend

Mike Elko could face former Texas A&M tight end Donovan Green as soon as next season

Texas A&M’s historic 2022 recruiting class continues to dwindle. Only six of the 32 commits in the cycle remain in the program after tight end Donovan Green and wide receiver Noah Thomas entered the portal over the last two weeks.

While Thomas has received a prediction to land with the Georgia Bulldogs, Donovan Green will reportedly head to Baton Rouge (LA) this weekend for a visit to LSU on Friday through Saturday. Green’s skillset is undeniable, but it’s been over two years since we’ve seen him play at a high level.

Despite recovering from his ACL tear after the 2023 season, Green struggled to ascend the depth chart in coach Mike Elko’s first year with the program. He participated in just seven games and primarily contributed on special teams without any receptions.

Texas A&M TE Donovan Green releases final send off after entering the transfer portal

Texas A&M TE Donovan Green thanks the 12th Man after three seasons with the program

After three seasons with Texas A&M, redshirt sophomore tight end Donovan Green entered the transfer portal after dealing with multiple injuries, including his season-ending ACL tear before the start of the 2023 campaign.

While the news wasn’t shocking, it was anticipated that Green would look to ascend the roster next season due to the team’s shallow tight end depth. However, with quarterback Conner Weigman transferring to Houston, the favored signal caller’s decision likely impacted Green’s plans.

Green’s playmaking ability was seen throughout his 2022 freshman season. The former four-star prospect looked like a perfect fit in Jimbo Fisher’s offense after recording 22 receptions, 233 yards, and two touchdowns.

Despite recovering from his ACL tear, Green struggled to ascend the depth chart in coach Mike Elko’s first season, participating in just seven games and primarily contributing on special teams without any receptions.

Nevertheless, the talent is still there, and Green ended his Texas A&M career by thanking the 12th Man for supporting him on and off the field while it’s safe to say that every Aggie will be rooting for him once he finds his new home for the 2025 season.

“It’s been 3 up and down year at a great University. I wasn’t able to bring a ship to CSTAT, but we made history and brought some excitement. The great 12th Man is an awesome experience that I will truly miss. Thank you to the 12th Man, Aggie staff, and all coaches. It has been great, But I have decided to enter into the transfer portal.”

Texas A&M redshirt sophomore tight end has entered the transfer portal

Texas A&M redshirt sophomore tight end Donovan Green has entered the transfer portal after three seasons

It looked like Texas A&M’s 19 transfer portal departures were the final number heading into the new year. Still, while the portal closed on Saturday, every team had five days after each program’s respective bowl game, meaning that every current Aggie has until Jan. 1st to enter the portal.

Well, the number has reached 20, as redshirt sophomore tight end Donovan Green has entered the portal after three injury-riddled seasons with the Aggies. The once-promising star in the making will now look to get back on track with another team in 2025.

While the news isn’t shocking, it was anticipated that Green would look to ascend the roster next season due to the team’s shallow tight end depth. However, with quarterback Conner Weigman transferring to Houston, the favored signal caller’s decision likely impacted Green’s own plans.

Green endured a season-ending ACL injury before the start of the 2023 season, and in 2024, the sophomore appeared in just seven games but was mostly limited to special teams on kickoffs.

During the 2022 season, Green reeled in 22 receptions, 233 yards, and two touchdowns.

Texas A&M sophomore tight end is still working his way back to the lineup

Texas A&M TE Donovan Green is slowly making his way back to the field

During his annual Wednesday radio show, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko answered many questions regarding the roster ahead of the Aggies’ Week 3 road test against Florida on Saturday afternoon.

However, it was revealed on Thursday that starting quarterback Conner Weigman is now questionable to play due to an undisclosed injury, while starting nickel cornerback Tyreek Chappell sustained a potentially long-term injury during practice. For the Gators, the injury list is even longer.

One of the presumed offensive starters who has not seen the field this season is redshirt sophomore Tight end Donovan Green. He suffered a season-ending ACL tear before the start of the 2023 season and is still working his way back to the lineup, according to Elko.

“Unfortunately, he is still just trying to kind of get back to the form that he knows he can be. …. Trying to get that knee back moving the way he is comfortable moving and the way he used to before the injury.”

Lacking dependable playmakers this season, Green’s 2022 freshman campaign saw a player on the rise, only to be immediately shelved until further notice. However, Green’s work ethic and positive mindset should only help speed up his return this season.

Texas A&M will travel to Gainsville to take on the Florida Gators on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on ABC.

Two Aggies named to the Comeback Player of the Year watch list

Conner Weigman and Donovan Green were recently named Comeback Player of the Year candidates

When examining Texas A&M’s roster, two players who dealt with recent blows to their collegiate careers are back to prove their star power on the field, as redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman has reconnected with sophomore tight end Donovan Green this fall ahead of the 2024 season.

As two of the last remaining players from the historic 2022 recruiting class, Weigman developed a special connection with Green during their first season with the program, but after both suffered season-ending injuries, including Green’s brutal ACL tear just weeks before the 2023 campaign, the road to redemption is painted Maroon & White.

So far, both players have steadily progressed during fall practice this month, as Weigman’s elite accuracy and touch remain intact, while his throwing velocity has enhanced. Coming off the bench to start the season seems more plausible for Green, but his performance this fall has shown a player ready to re-take the field after adding healthy mass this offseason.

With high expectations attached to both players, Weigman and Green were recently named to the Comeback Player of the Year preseason watchlist.

Texas A&M will open the 2024 season vs. Notre Dame on Saturday, August 31. The game will air on ABC at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Texas A&M sophomore TE named to the John Mackey Award Watch list

Aggie tight end Donovan Green is back on the field and has been named to the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List

It’s been a long time coming but Texas A&M junior tight end Donovan Green will be back on the field for the 2024 football season. After missing the entire 2023 season with an ACL injury he’s worked his way back to health and is one of the top TEs to watch in the fall.

The John Mackey Award Selection Committee agreed naming him to the John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List. Green showed promise during his freshman year starting four games and recording 233 yards on 22 receptions and two touchdowns. Before his injury, he was going to be competing for a starting spot as one of the main TEs in the Jimbo Fisher’s system.

Established in 2000 by the Nassau County Sports Commission, the award is given to the tight end who best exemplifies the play, sportsmanship, academics and community values of Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey. The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award selection Committee.

Texas A&M Football’s 2024 roster show’s new S&C Tommy Moffit’s immediate impact

Under new S&C Tommy Moffit, Texas A&M’s 2024 roster is already bigger and stronger

With SEC Media Days beginning on Monday, several head coaches, including LSU’s Brian Kelly, took the stage to preview the upcoming season, providing the usual talking points that may or may not come to fruition once the cleats hit the turf.

Before Mike Elko takes the stage on Thursday afternoon, Texas A&M’s 2024 roster was released to the public, while nearly every player has either gained or lost weight with less than a month before the Aggies kick off the season vs. Notre Dame on August 31.

Under new strength & conditioning coach Tommy Moffitt, freshman offensive tackle Blake Ivy gained the most weight out of anyone, adding 35 pounds to his 6’4″ and now 330-pound frame. Coming in behind Ivy, tight end Donovan Green, who will return after missing the entire 2023 season due to injury, gained 20 pounds, now sporting an impressive 6’4″, 265-pound frame.

Along the offensive line, three reserve O-linemen, Dametrious Crownover, TJ Shanahan, and Aki Ogunbiyi, have added 15 pounds, while the rest of the tight end rotation is beyond massive, all weighing over 260 pounds. This is clearly a sign that the run game is due to improve this season.

On the defensive line, defensive tackles DJ Hicks, Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, and defensive end Cashius Howell have added 10 pounds of mass, and interestingly enough, three of the cornerbacks from the transfer portal (Dezz Ricks, BJ Mayes, Donovan Saunders) have also gained 10 pounds in the weight room, all billed at 195 lbs.

After photos surfaced of starting quarterback Conner Weigman during the Manning Passing Academy, the redshirt sophomore has added five pounds and looks bigger and stronger after missing the final eight games of the 2023 season.

Losing weight a player who could rise through the depth chart, defensive tackle Samu Taumanupepe has lost over 30 pounds, now weighing in at 6’3″ and 350 pounds.

Texas A&M TE Donovan Green announces his return for the Aggies’ 2024 season

Through Texas A&M’s official NIL sponsor, Texas Aggies United sophomore tight end Donovan Green announced his return for the 2024 season.

The NIL era is here to stay, maybe not in its current format, but here to stay nonetheless. For Texas A&M, the program’s official NIL sponsor, Texas Aggies United, has partnered with current members of the Aggies roster to announce every player’s impending return, this time focusing on sophomore tight end Donovan Green.

After suffering a devastating ACL injury just a month before the start of the 2023 season, Donovan Green, who quickly became a favorite target for Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman towards the latter half of the 2022 campaign, would miss the entire year while focusing on his rehabilitation.

In nine games during the 2022 season, Green recorded 22 receptions, 233 yards, and two touchdowns, displaying the strength and blocking ability needed at the position, while his speed and route-running skills stuck out more than any trait, something the Aggies sorely missed in 2023.

In the age of NIL and the ever-growing transfer portal, Green has shown his commitment to the program through and through, as many of us who covered the games last season continuously noticed his presence on the sidelines with the team, itching to get back on the field. During a recent interview, Green expressed his excitement to work under new head coach Mike Elko:

“(Mike Elko) has shown things in the past couple weeks or month that he has been here that I have not seen in a long time.”

Coupled with new OC Collin Klein’s heavy use of tight end sets in his offense, look for Donovan Green to have a bounce-back season in 2024.

Final injury report ahead to Texas A&M vs. New Mexico

Here is the final injury report ahead of Texas A&M’s 2023 season opener vs. New Mexico on Saturday, Sept. 2

Texas A&M (0-0) is set to kick off their 2023 football season against the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday, Sept. 2, inside what should be a packed and raucous Kyle Field.

On Monday, head coach Jimbo Fisher took the podium to answer many questions regarding the team’s preparation before the weekend’s festivities while providing a brief update on the Aggies injury front post-fall camp.

During fall camp, sophomore tight end Donovan Green suffered a torn ACL and will miss the entirety of the 2023 season. Still, he has already undergone a successful surgery and is on track to be ready for the 2024 season. Still, outside of Green’s terrible misfortune, Texas A&M’s roster is in the best shape it’s been at this time of the season for the first time in several years.

As I stated on Monday, we will not know the official status of starting center Bryce Foster until an hour or two before game time, as the Aggies game day depth chart will likely not be released until then, a normality during Fisher’s tenure.

Staying in a similar lane, starting right tackle Reuben Fatheree II will likely miss the opener as he works his way back from a minor injury suffered in the spring, as standout freshman offensive lineman Chase Bisontis is slated to start in his place, while left tackle Trey Zuhn is as healthy as he’s ever been in his Aggie career heading into the opener.

For Head Coach Danny Gonzalez’s Lobo squad, redshirt sophomore tight end Trace Bruckler is back from his injury-riddled 2022 season and is poised for a productive year.
