Bears found these prospects at the Senior Bowl in 2022

We’re taking a look at the four prospects the Bears drafted that participated in the Senior Bowl last year:

The Senior Bowl kicks off this week, which marks the unofficial start to draft season, where NFL teams will get a glimpse at some of the nation’s top prospects.

General manager Ryan Poles and people from his personnel department will be in Mobile, Ala., to take in practices and get to meet with prospects, according to Larry Mayer.

But this year, Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy is serving as the head coach of the American team. So he’ll get an even better look at these prospects.

Let’s take a look back at the four prospects the Bears drafted that participated in the Senior Bowl last year:

Bears 2022 EDGE review: Veterans take big step back

After a historic year rushing the quarterback in 2021, the Bears retooled their defensive ends and took a big step back.

The Chicago Bears wrapped the 2022 season with a 3-14 record, which culminated in a 10-game losing streak. But there’s still reasons to be optimistic about the future, including a boatload of salary cap space, the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft and the emergence of quarterback Justin Fields.

Here at Bears Wire, we’re going position by position through the 2022 Bears and grading every player. With the offense wrapped up, it’s time to shift to the defense, beginning with the defensive ends who couldn’t get home to the quarterback all season long.

Bye week grades for the Bears 2022 rookie draft class

Bye week grades for the Bears 2022 rookie draft class

The Chicago Bears won’t be taking the field this weekend due to their bye week, but it presents a good opportunity to evaluate their 11 draft picks they selected earlier this spring.

Some players have stood out in big ways, while others have disappointed despite getting numerous opportunities. And then there’s the other group that has seen just a few snaps here and there, waiting for their opportunity to make an impact.

After 13 games, here are our grades for the 2022 Bears draft class.

6 takeaways from the Bears’ blowout loss to the Cowboys

From Justin Fields’ ascendance to Roquan Smith’s rollercoaster season, here are our takeaways from the Bears’ 49-29 loss to the Cowboys.

For the second year in a row, the Chicago Bears got their doors blown off on Halloween weekend. But also for the second year in a row on Halloween weekend, quarterback Justin Fields looked like a star. Nestled in that loss was an offense that continued to take strides, particularly at the quarterback position.

The Bears fell to the Dallas Cowboys 49-29 in a game where their defense allowed six touchdowns. It was the most points they allowed since the Green Bay Packers dropped 55 on them during the infamous 2014 season. But in this defeat, the positives seem to outweigh the negatives.

The offense continues to develop and is becoming a problem for opposing defenses and Fields looks the part of a budding franchise quarterback. Work is still in progress, but the positive signs are there. At the very least, you can feel a lot worse about a 49-29 loss on the road. Here are our takeaways from Sunday’s defeat.

Bears rookie Dominique Robinson already proving to be a draft bargain

The Chicago Bears appear to have landed a huge steal in fifth-round rookie Dominique Robinson

It’s rare for an NFL team to land an instant-impact pass rusher in the fifth round of the draft, but it looks like that’s what the Chicago Bears just did with rookie Dominique Robinson.

The Miami (OH) product made quite a splash in his regular-season debut, tallying 1.5 sacks in Sunday’s upset win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Robinson’s performance is even more impressive considering he often lined up against All-Pro tackle Trent Williams, even beating him for one of those sacks.

While the Bears are sure to miss Khalil Mack after trading him away, it looks like they’ve found themselves a Day 3 gem in Robinson, who is already making a big impact at the next level.

Bear Necessities: Chicago’s rookies impressed in their NFL debuts

The Bears rookies stepped up in their first NFL starts in Sunday’s win against the 49ers.

This is our online morning newsletter, Bear Necessities. Subscribe to get the latest Bears news delivered to your mailbox every day.

There was a lot to love about the Chicago Bears’ Week 1 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, including the performances of four rookies whose futures look bright.

The biggest standout was fifth-round rookie defensive end Dominique Robinson, who had 1.5 of Chicago’s 2.0 sacks in the opener. He added seven tackles, including one for a loss, with two QB hits. Robinson, who’s only been playing the position for a couple of years, flashed his potential in his first NFL start.

Second-round cornerback Kyler Gordon and safety Jaquan Brisker have been making a strong impression since they arrived in Chicago, where the hope is they can develop into two cornerstones on defense. Both got off to good starts on Sunday, where they played every snap in the win.

Brisker recorded the Bears’ first takeaway of the 2022 season recovering a fumble by Deebo Samuel. He also had four tackles, including one for a loss. Gordon had six tackles, including one for a loss, as he transitioned between outside and nickel cornerback.

Then there’s fifth-round rookie Braxton Jones, who played every snap at left tackle for Chicago in Week 1. In his first NFL start, Jones faced a tall order going against two-time Pro Bowler Nick Bosa. While he had an up-and-down performance, including allowing a sack, he got better as the game went on.

While we’re just one game into the NFL careers of these rookies, this draft class has the potential to be an impactful one for the Bears.

Secret Superstars for Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season

Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar features Week 1’s great underrated players on his Secret Superstars team.

There are all kinds of reasons that NFL players are underrated.

Perhaps they’re in systems that don’t best show their skills. Maybe they’re buried on a depth chart. Or, they’re in somebody’s doghouse, and their coaches can’t see their potential. Sometimes, young players haven’t quite put it all together, but there are enough flashes to make you sit up and take notice, and when it does work, it’s all good.

Week 1 of the 2022 regular season features players at every position who showed up and showed out despite their underrated statuses, and here at Touchdown Wire, it’s our job to point them out.

Here are the Secret Superstars for Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season.

Game balls: 5 standouts from the Bears’ win over 49ers

Here is who earned game balls with impressive performances in a Week 1 win over the 49ers.

The Chicago Bears kicked off the Matt Eberflus era on a high note with a 19-10 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1. Now, Chicago is sitting atop the NFC North alongside the Minnesota Vikings.

It was a brutal contest all around — both performance and weather conditions — but it also showcased what we can expect to see from this Eberflus-led team. The Bears put together a hard-fought effort and played smart, disciplined football and took down a San Francisco team many consider to be Super Bowl contenders.

But there were several standouts from the victory. Here is who earned game balls from the Week 1 win over the 49ers:

Bears rookie Dominique Robinson shares how he beat Trent Williams for a sack

Turns out, Bears DE Dominique Robinson’s third-quarter sack was the result of some good preparation by Robinson.

Bears rookie defensive end Dominique Robinson made a strong impression in his first NFL start, where he played a huge role in the defense containing a talented 49ers offense.

Robinson was responsible for 1.5 of Chicago’s 2.0 sacks, including one that was a huge momentum shifter at the start of the third quarter.

With San Francisco’s offense looking to take a two-touchdown lead on Chicago, Robinson made a big play. On third-and-goal from the 4-yard line, Robinson broke free of 49ers All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams and to get home on quarterback Trey Lance, along with teammate Roquan Smith.

San Francisco had to settle for a field goal, which happened to be their last points of the game. The Bears, meanwhile, scored three consecutive touchdowns in the second half.

Turns out, the sack was the result of some good preparation by Robinson.

Robinson told Bear Report’s Zack Pearson that, after watching film, he picked up on a tendency from Williams. Robinson said he saw that Williams would kick his left foot twice when it was a pass play. And Robinson was able to use it to his advantage.

Robinson was the standout performer for the Bears in their upset win, where he earned the highest grade from Pro Football Focus at 89.8. The exciting thing is Robinson remains a raw talent having only played the position for two years. The best is yet to come.
