Dolphins release positive update on Grant DuBose following hit in Texans game

The Dolphins have provided another update on Grant DuBose’s status, who remains in Houston following the Texans game with a head injury.

While Grant DuBose has a long recovery, he’s trending upward 24 hours after suffering a scary injury in Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.

In a statement Monday morning, the Miami Dolphins announced that DuBose has movement in all extremities and initial tests have revealed positive results. While Miami headed back to South Beach, DuBose stayed the night at Memorial Hermann Hospital in downtown Houston.

The second-year receiver still remains there under the care of doctors for continued observation.

“We’ll be excited to see him when doctors deem it appropriate for him to fly,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said later Monday.

During the third quarter of Sunday’s game, DuBose tried to make a catch but was hit in a head-on collision by safety Texans rookie safety Calen Bullock. He violently hit the turf and remained motionless for nearly 11 minutes.

The trained medical staff had to cut off his jersey and pads before placing him on a stretcher. They also placed a brace around DuBose’s neck to stabilize his neck.

While on the board, a tube of some kind was in his mouth and no movement could be seen as he was taken off the field.

“Prayers go out to Grant DuBose,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said. “Really seeing a guy down on the field like that is very hard to see, and we are just praying that all is well with him and that he recovers quickly as possible.”

Bullock, who recorded his fifth career interception, was fined for unnecessary roughness for hitting a defenseless receiver on the play.

“I was praying that he would be OK,” Bullock said postgame. “I wasn’t trying to go out there and hurt nobody.”

The Texans secured a 20-12 win, which factored into Houston clinching the AFC South for a second consecutive season.

“That was a tough situation right there. I’m hoping that he’s OK. I’m praying for his recovery and that he can get back on the field,” Stroud told CBS Sports following the game.

The Texans travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs this Saturday at noon CT.

The Dolphins play host to a San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at 3:25 p.m. CT.

Dolphins-Texans Week 15: Offense, defense and special teams snap counts

The Houston Texans secured their second consecutive AFC South division title on Sunday at NRG Stadium against the Miami Dolphins.

What’s the best way to cap off a win? Securing a playoff berth helps.

The Houston Texans are headed back to the playoffs following their 20-12  victory over the Miami Dolphins in Week 15 at NRG Stadium. They needed to wait for the clock to strike zero in Denver, but after the Broncos secured a 31-13 win over the Indianapolis Colts, the word became official.

Houston, which two seasons ago was in line for the No. 1 overall pick entering Christmas weekend, could secure its 20th regular-season win of the DeMeco Ryans era with a victory over Kansas City Chiefs next week at Arrowhead Stadium.

Houston’s defense helped the tone in the second half against a scorching Dolphins offense that had won four of their last five games. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had four turnovers, including one capped off by cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.’s game-sealing interception on the final drive.

“I feel like today we took another step,” Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud said. “To play for the division this early in December is kind of cool, and not have to wait until the very back end.”

Here’s the snap count for every player in Sunday’s contest.

The Texans hit the road to face off against the defending Super Bowl champions next Saturday, December 21, at noon CT.

Texans WR Nico Collins doubles touchdown total against Dolphins with easy score

Another scoring drive for the Houston Texans ends with Nico Collins in the end zone for six points.

(This story was updated because an earlier version included an inaccurate headline.)

Another throw from C.J. Stroud, another touchdown for Nico Collins.

Following a fake put from the Houston Texans by M.J. Stewart to put the offense at the Miami Dolpins‘ 9, Stroud found Collins once for more a 6-yard score.

For the second time in Sunday’s contest, the Texans connected for six yards on a touchdown pass, both going to the resurgent Collins.

The Texans lead 20-6 midway through the third quarter with a chance to clinch the AFC South. With a win, Houston would need a Denver Broncos win over the Indianapolis Colts to secure a second division title under DeMeco Ryans and Stroud.

No one has benefitted more from Stroud’s arrival than Collins, who was on pace for an All-Pro season in 2024 before a hamstring injury sidelined him for five games.

Entering the fourth quarter, this is the version of No. 12 that’s had pundits praise his name. Collins currently has four catches for 17 yards and 12 points.

How to watch Dolphins vs Texans today: Time, TV channel for Week 15

Here’s everything you need to know about the Texans vs. Dolphins heading into Sunday’s game at NRG Stadium.

Coming off the bye week, the Houston Texans remain ahead by two games over the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South standings. With a win in Week 15, Houston could put the Colts’ playoff chances on life support.

Standing between a Texans’ division title and a home playoff game is the Miami Dolphins, the first of a challenging trio they’ll face over the next 11 days. Miami’s offense remains hot and the backbone of the roster, winning four of its last five games, including Week 14’s overtime victory.

After starting the year 6-2, the Texans have stumbled in recent weeks, with only two wins in their last five outings. Injuries have contributed to the speed bump, but Houston enters Week 15 after spending last weekend on a bye.

Should the Texans win, they would need a Colts loss to clinch the division. With both teams winning, they’d need a victory over the Chiefs to secure a playoff berth. And the betting odds bode well for Houston, which has a 96% playoff percentage entering Week 15.

Dolphins vs Texans predictions, picks, odds

Dolphins 30, Texans 20:Tua and the Dolphins’ offense are red hot heading down the stretch. Jonnu Smith has become an X-factor in the red zone and the run game remains potent. This is a Miami roster that’s won four of its last five games can nearly came back down by three scores against the Packers in frozen conditions of Green Bay.

Even though Miami has struggled to play in the cold under Tua in the past, turning the AC units down won’t be enough to slow down the AFC’s sneakiest dark horse. Add in the loss of Jalen Pitre and Azeez Al-Shaair, perhaps this game gets out of hand early at home.

Miami Dolphins sign former Georgia Bulldogs DL

The Miami Dolphins have signed former Chicago Bears defensive lineman John Jenkins, who played college football at the University of Georgia

The Miami Dolphins have signed former Chicago Bears defensive lineman John Jenkins, who played college football at the University of Georgia.

John Jenkins is returning to Miami on a one-year deal. Jenkins is entering NFL season No. 10 in 2021. The newest Miami defensive lineman has played for the New Orleans Saints (2013-2016), Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins and New York Giants throughout his career.

Last season, John Jenkins recorded 21 tackles for Chicago. He came up with a critical forced fumble in the postseason, but the Bears ultimately fell short against the New Orleans Saints.

At 6 feet, 3 inches and 330 pounds, John Jenkins will help the Dolphins stop the run in 2021. Jenkins only has 2.5 career sacks, so he is not a third-down defensive lineman. John Jenkins last played for the Miami Dolphins in 2019.

Here is what Dolphins Wire had to say about the addition of big John Jenkins:

Jenkins’ signing is significant for another reason, too. It officially makes him the elder-statesman of the Dolphins’ roster. At 31 years of age, Jenkins is the only Dolphins player under contract over the age of 30. The demand for Jenkins in 2021, presuming he makes the active roster, figures to be low thanks to the presence of players like Christian Wilkins, Zach Sieler, Raekwon Davis and Adam Butler. But an experienced insurance policy is a great thing to have up front in the trenches nonetheless.

Georgia HC Kirby Smart on Jake Fromm falling in draft

Georgia football HC Kirby Smart talks Jake Fromm falling to the Buffalo Bills in the fifth-round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm was projected as an early-to-mid-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, but ended up falling all the way to the fifth-round where he was selected by the Buffalo Bills with the No. 167 overall pick.

Draft analysts and Georgia fans were surprised as Fromm remained on the board throughout Saturday including Georgia head coach Kirby Smart, who went on NFL Network to discuss Fromm being drafted by Buffalo.

Smart said:

“I thought all along he’d be a third or a fourth-round pick, and he lasted to the fifth, there’s only one quarterback on the field at a time, and so many teams have filled their need. It was a weird year, things happened in a strange way.”

Kirby is right, it seems that most teams that didn’t have early picks like the Bengals and Dolphins already had options at quarterback.

“I’ve been sitting here holding my breath that he’d get picked,” Smart said. “And now he’s going to cold, cold Buffalo.”

Yeah, Buffalo may be chilly, but if I am Fromm I am happy to go to Buffalo.  A team that already has a quality starter in Josh Allen, a promising young coach and a good defense.

Fromm should be able to sit behind Allen for a few seasons to learn the offense and possibly compete for the job in the future.

And as Georgia fans know, Fromm doesn’t shy away from competition.
