Jimbo Fisher named to the Dodd trophy preseason list

Texas A&M head football coach Jimbo Fisher is included in a list of 20 head coaches with a chance to claim the historic Dodd Trophy.

Texas A&M football head coach Jimbo Fisher has been preparing for what might be the most important season of his career as the Aggies head man and has received some preseason recognition in the process, being named to the 2022 Dodd Trophy Preseason Watch List.

Fisher is among 20 nominees (the rest can be found here) for the prestigious trophy, which is not only awarded based on success on the field but also for leading each young athlete to future success off the field, and emphasizing “scholarship, leadership, and integrity”, known as the three pillars of legendary head coach Bobby Dodd’s coaching outlook. The basis of selection for the award is listed as the following: Success on the field, graduation rate, charitable work through service to the local community, and Academic Progress Rate. The award is presented to the winner during the Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl, which is set to kick off on December 31st.

Fisher is going into his 5th season with the Aggies and has compiled a 34-14 record while leading the team to bowl eligibility for 4 consecutive seasons, with an appearance in the Orange Bowl during the 2020 season, beating North Carolina. He has also continued to recruit at a very high level while receiving the best class in recruiting history during the 2022 recruiting cycle.

Outside of football, Fisher is the creator of the Kidz1stFund, an organization made to raise awareness and raise funds for research and development for Fanconi Anemia, a rare blood disease that has afflicted Fisher’s youngest son, Ethan.

Jimbo Fisher is wildly respected among the college football coaching landscape and in general public life as a high-character individual who strives for excellence in everything he does and wants nothing more than to help the young men he coaches every season to be as successful as they can during their football journey, and prepare them for life once that football journey comes to a close. Congratulations Jimbo, now let’s go make some history this season.

Wisconsin HC Paul Chryst named to the Dodd Trophy preseason watch list

Wisconsin HC Paul Chryst is listed with some impressive names entering the 2021 season

Wisconsin HC Paul Chryst was named to the Dodd Trophy preseason watch list earlier today, joining a group that consists of four other Big Ten coaches and 17 total coaches around the country.

When you hear the list, it’s pretty hard to believe Chryst is being mentioned in the same sentence. But it makes sense, the Badger head coach is one of the winningest in the nation since taking over in 2015 and is underrated by many around the country.

But for that impressive context, the newly-released Dodd Trophy preseason watch list is…

  • Paul Chryst
  • Indiana’s Tom Allen
  • UNC’s Mack Brown
  • Iowa State’s Matt Campbell
  • Coastal Carolina’s Jamey Chadwell
  • Ohio State’s Ryan Day
  • Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz
  • Cincinnati’s Luke Fickell
  • Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher
  • Penn State’s James Franklin
  • Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly
  • Washington’s Jimmy Lake
  • Florida’s Dan Mullen
  • Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley
  • Alabama’s Nick Saban
  • Georgia’s Kirby Smart
  • Clemson’s Dabo Swinney

It’s an impressive group. Time will now tell who takes the award from 2020 winner Pat Fitzgerald.

Locked on Longhorns Podcast: ‘Top 25 and Tom Herman on award watch list’

The Locked on Longhorns podcast discusses the Locked on Podcast Top 25. Plus Texas head coach Tom Herman named to award watch list.

The Locked on Podcast Top 25 was released. Where does Texas rank on the initial ranking? This was voted on by the hosts on the Locked on Podcast network. Any surprises on the list?

On the crazy side of college football the Big Ten news just keeps coming. Buckeyes Wire reported that a vote could take place on Friday to determine plans for fall football. Just another crazy twist in the Big Ten saga coming off the heels of Nebraska players filing a lawsuit against the conference.

The head coach of the Texas Longhorns has made the list for the Dodd Trophy. It is given to the top coach in college football that meets certain criteria. Tom Herman was named to last year’s list as well but failed to be named a finalist.

Herman has often been linked to being on the hot seat but USA TODAY Sports writer Dan Wolken stated that there won’t be any hot seats. Given the state of college athletics, it would be difficult to justify having a coach on the hotseat. If a coach is fired during the season, could you justify a buyout given the issues with finances? Plus celebrity chef Guy Fieri received a special delivery from Longhorns legendary running back Earl Campbell.

College football returns to the field on Thursday night. What are the game picks for the two games? Central Arkansas travels to Alabama-Birmingham plus South Alabama against Southern Miss. Not to mention our biggest surprise of the week.

Tom Herman named to Dodd Trophy preseason watch list

Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman was named to the Dodd Trophy Preseason watchlist. Herman was also apart of the list last year.

These days it isn’t only the players who are added to award watch lists. Coaches are also subject to being added and that is the case for Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman. He was added to the Dodd Trophy Award watch list.

The Dodd Trophy, college football’s most coveted national coaching award, celebrates the head coach of a team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity– the three pillars of legendary coach Bobby Dodd’s coaching philosophy. – per The Dodd Trophy Award press release

Coaches who are entering their first year as head coach with their perspective teams will not be eligible. Also only teams participating in fall season will be considered for the award this year.

“An unprecedented season calls for an unprecedented preseason watch list,” said Jim Terry, chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation. “When considering candidates for this year’s Dodd Trophy, the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation made the decision to align with the College Football Playoff’s timeline and only consider coaches who will play during the fall season. That said, we still would like to recognize coaches from other conferences who met all of the criteria and under normal circumstances would be included on our list.”

The coaches named include one former Longhorns head coach

  • Dabo Swinney (Clemson)
  • Luke Fickell (Cincinnati)
  • Nick Saban (Alabama)
  • Josh Huepel (Central Florida)
  • Gus Malzahn (Auburn)
  • Dan Mullen (Florida)
  • Bronco Mendenhall (BYU)
  • Brian Kelly (Notre Dame)
  • Kirby Smart (Georgia)
  • Lincoln Riley (Oklahoma)
  • Mack Brown (North Carolina)
  • Ed Orgeron (LSU)

The Award winner will be announced the week of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Herman was not apart of the finalist last season but he does return to the original watch list in 2020. Mack Brown won the award in 2008 when he was with Texas.
