Fans and peers everywhere are paying homage to DMX, who died at 50 years old

Rest in Peace, DMX.

DMX is a hip-hop legend. The game simply just won’t be the same without him.

The legend died at 50 years old on Friday after being taken to the hospital as a result of a heart attack from an apparent drug overdose, per the Associated Press.

For so many people, X was a beacon of hope. He was an inspirational figure โ€” an imperfect picture of resilience. He spent his entire life battling with addiction and personal demons that he never quite found a way to shake, as The Undefeated’s Justin Tinsley points out here ever so eloquently.

Still, as Tinsley writes, throughout those battles, he persevered and lived a life that impacted so many people in such positive ways.

So many of those people took to Twitter to share some of those stories and some of their favorite moments in seeing him. Everyone from his peers to his fans paid their respects.

Some had amazing stories to tell.

Others shared their favorite moments.

Some of his peers reflected on the impact that he had on them and on the music world at large.

More than anything, though, everyone held on to something he said from one of the last interviews he had that we saw.

“If I was to drop dead right now, my last thought would be: I’ve lived a good life.”

He lived a great one. Rest in peace, DMX.

LeBron James was hyped off the DMX vs. Snoop Dogg Verzuz battle

LeBron James was happy to be tuned in to the battle with Snoop Dogg and DMX from the NBA Bubble on Wednesday night.

LeBron James was one of many hundreds of thousands to tune into Wednesday night’s Verzuz battle between Snoop Dogg and DMX. Both MCs played their hits which extend over several decades and the type of lyrical excellence on display on Wednesday night was enough to get LeBron James hyped about it in the comments.

James himself is obviously a passionate hip-hop fan and when things are relatively normal, he will usually bring us in on the music he is sampling while he is going between work and home. But James was excited and moved to post in all caps while watching Snoop and DMX trade hits.

While Wednesday was definitely a battle, it was also pretty awesome to watch considering how both rappers hyped each other up while doing their respective songs. As we have heard, LeBron has been moving pretty freely throughout the campus, but he made sure not to miss tonight’s battle. His Lakers teammate Jared Dudley was also in the comments on Wednesday, so the Lakers keep doing things together, even while in their own hotel rooms.

Lonzo Ball says LaVar Ball, DMX, Lil Wayne served as music inspirations

Lonzo Ball revealed his musical inspirations to be a mix of artists in DMX, Lil Wayne and Future as well as his father LaVar.

Lonzo Ball has rather quickly established himself as one of the better rappers in the NBA. His second album was released on Friday with Bounce Back Album having features from Lance Stephenson, Enzo McFly and LiAngelo Ball.

Ball joined an Instagram Live with NBA 2K’s Ronnie Singh on Friday and talked about his musical inspirations. Surprisingly, his first inspiration was not an artist but his outspoken father LaVar.

โ€œIt definitely came from my pops. As long as I can remember, I was rapping in the back of the car. He used to rap on the way to school to drop me off. I just always had music around. Especially when working out, I always have music around.โ€

He also talked about his musical inspirations as well, saying his first was DMX. He also mentioned the likes of Lil Wayne and Future as inspirations.

Ball has been a big-time supporter of Future but never more so than when he helped him release his latest album during the lockdown. Ball shared Future’s tracklist on his Instagram Story in the week leading up to the release.
