DK Metcalf sets 2020 goal to reduce drops and soak up more of offense

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf seeks to reduce his number of drops and soak up more of the team’s offense in the 2020 season.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf seeks to cut down his drops and glean further knowledge of the offense in his sophomore season.

“Basically just building on last year. I know had a few drops last year that I’ve got to clean up,” Metcalf said during his Zoom press conference last week. “And just expanding my role in the offense and learning the offense more. I know last year I was just getting my feet wet with everything in the offense and being in the league. It’s just taking the next step, taking my game to the next level.”

Metcalf spent this offseason working out with quarterback Russell Wilson. Coach Pete Carroll stated on Monday that fans will see an improved Metcalf in 2020, if there is a season.

“He’s going to be better this year,” Carroll said. “He had an incredible offseason. He spent, I don’t know, at least a month with Russell (Wilson) working out, they found a way to do it, and they had a phenomenal summer in that regard. What gives him a chance to be a really exciting player is his mentality. He knows exactly who he is, he knows where he’s come from, he knows what it’s all about.”

Metcalf’s relationship with Wilson has grown stronger over the course of this offseason, and Wilson has given Metcalf invaluable advice that the latter has taken to heart.

“Nothing is going to be handed to you,” Metcalf said. “If you want to be great you’ve got to go get it.”

Wilson and Metcalf potentially making more magic on the field is an exciting thought, particularly because Metcalf is only entering his second season and his potential is limitless.

Russell Wilson’s ‘Mr. Unlimited’ video resurfaces two years later

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson’s Twitter video for his alter ego “Mr. Unlimited” has resurfaced two years after its posting.

Two years ago, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson proclaimed in a video that his alter ego is “Mr. Unlimited.” That video has since resurfaced and gained additional attention in 2020, most of it negative, thanks in no small part to Wilson himself.

Wilson will need to be at his very best again in 2020 for the Seahawks to compete in the NFC West, and this could be the perfect season to go for it all with the acquisition of Jamal Adams and blossoming of DK Metcalf, among other developments. This is, of course, assuming we will see an NFL season this year.

DK Metcalf’s bond with QB Russell Wilson growing even stronger year 2

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf’s bond with QB Russell Wilson is growing even stronger entering their second season together.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf had no problem bonding with his quarterback his rookie season, but the chemistry between himself and Russell Wilson figures to be even stronger his second year in the league.

“We know how one another is going to react to certain things,” Metcalf told reporters in a video press conference Thursday afternoon. “It’s just a bond that goes further than football. Football is only a short period of my life. Just building relationships while I’m here that are going last a lifetime. So any bond that you have, besides just the common ‘Hey, go run that go run that route and be done,’ is going to be great.”

Metcalf and Wilson spent quality time this offseason working out in Southern Califonia together hoping any extra reps could give them an edge in 2020, but clearly, Metcalf has benefitted just as much from the friendship and offseason activities.

Hopefully, the duo will be able to connect as seamlessly on gamedays.

Seahawks TE Greg Olsen has played in NFL with DK Metcalf and his dad

Seattle Seahawks tight end Greg Olsen has played in NFL with DK Metcalf and his dad, Terrence, who was a guard for the Bears in the 2000s.

There is no denying tight end Greg Olsen is a seasoned veteran of the National Football League, but just how seasoned is he? Well, Olsen is “experienced” enough to have now played in the NFL with Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf and Metcalf’s DAD, Terrence.

Metcalf’s father spent seven seasons in the league as a guard for the Bears, where Olsen began his career in 2007. Although the two only spent a couple of years together on the roster, the time wasn’t forgotten.

Metcalf recounted a story for reporters during his Zoom press conference on Thursday.

“Like a month ago, me and Greg worked out and I brought my dad up there with me, and how they rekindled an old flame was kind of funny, because they just started smiling,” Metcalf said. “And Greg was like, ‘I’ve got to tell you about some stories in the locker room,’ and all of that. So, I mean, it looked like they had a pretty good relationship. But me just learning from Greg, it’s been great. He’s been teaching me a lot this offseason, since he’s been in the league, probably, what, 20 years now?

For the record, Olsen was selected by the Bears in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft, so he has a few more seasons to play before he hits the 20-year mark.

“He’s a great player, great tight end, and just to learn from him, it’s going to be special,” Metcalf said with a smile.

DK Metcalf, K.J. Wright kick off series of Seahawks interviews

Metcalf and Wright were two of five Seahawks players who conducted exclusive video interviews with Q13 FOX about the upcoming season.

A five-part series of exclusive interviews with Seattle Seahawks players on Q13 FOX kicked off Monday featuring one of the Seahawks’ brightest young talents in DK Metcalf, followed by a session with seasoned linebacker K.J. Wright on Tuesday.

Metcalf, a standout wide receiver entering his second year in the NFL, smiled brightly throughout his entire interview as he spoke about his positive outlook on the season ahead.

“I’ve been working since February, March, so I’m just anxious to get back out on the field,” he said. “Hopeful that we start the season, hopeful that we finish it.”

This season, he explained, he hopes to expand his role as a receiver, allowing the Seahawks to use him in a larger variety of in-game situations. To that end, he spent an entire week with quarterback Russell Wilson over the offseason, one-on-one, drawing comparisons to last year’s “Seahawks Summer Camp”.

“This time was a little different,” acknowledged Metcalf. “We connected on a personal level. I look at him as a big brother – our bond is growing stronger every day.”

Wright has his own goals for the 2020 season – namely, on improving the defense as a unit.

“That’s definitely not good enough,” he said of their 2019 performance, in which the defense ranked 22nd in the league. “We have the talent, we have the chemistry, and we can’t allow the offense to bail us out in games. That’s unacceptable, and it will be better.”

Any doubt or negativity on that front, he stated, only fuels his drive to succeed. “Please keep it coming,” he said. “I love it, I truly appreciate it, I can’t get enough of it.

“I see it,” he finished, “and I just shut it up.”

Q13’s Seahawks interviews will continue with Tyler Lockett on Wednesday, Bruce Irvin on Thursday, and Greg Olsen on Monday, Aug. 10.

Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf cracks NFL Network’s Top 100 at No. 81

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf cracks NFL Network’s Top 100 at No. 81, marking the second Seahawk to make the 2020 list so far.

It didn’t take Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf long to crack the NFL Network’s “Top 100 Players” list, coming in at No. 81 to start his second season.

Metcalf is the second Seahawk to be named to the “Top 100 Players of 2020” list so far, with running back Chris Carson making his debut at No. 96.

In 16 regular-season games played his rookie year, Metcalf logged 58 receptions for 900 yards and seven touchdowns, firmly cementing himself in the No. 2 spot behind veteran Tyler Lockett. Expectations are even higher for Metcalf entering his sophomore season.

Here’s a look at Metcalf’s NFL Network video from Sunday night.

Check it out: Seahawks’ DK Metcalf soars laterally over series of 42-inch hurdles

Add another feat to the amazing ability of the Seahawks’ DK Metcalf. The wideout clears a series of 42-inch hurdles laterally, with ease.

DK Metcalf made waves with his physique before he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2019. Then, as a rookie, he wowed the NFL with catch after catch en route to 58 catches for 900 yards and seven touchdowns.

If that wasn’t enough to impress you, check out the ease with which the wideout goes over a series of 42-inch hurdles.

Laterally!

That’s right, Metcalf leaped over the hurdles laterally. Who needs to head straight for the obstacle when you can take it any way you want?

How could anyone forget the show he put on at the 2019 NFL Combine?

Seahawks’ DK Metcalf reacts to Madden NFL 21 speed rating on Twitter

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf reacted to his Madden NFL 21 speed rating of 95 on Twitter, and it sounds like he is disappointed.

The Madden NFL 21 ratings are out and they have polarized opinions among the NFL’s players and fans alike. However, some have evoked particularly strong reactions from players, in particular.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is irritated at his 95-speed rating and voiced his displeasure on Twitter.

Stop playing, 😂 I need to run the 40 again huh?” Metcalf tweeted.

Metcalf ran a 4.33 in his 40-yard dash at the NFL combine prior to being drafted in 2019 and showed tremendous speed on the field in his rookie season, so it is understandable that he would be miffed.

Metcalf is not an isolated incident, as several other players around the league believe they have been underrated or snubbed.

Why Seahawks should replace Tyler Lockett as return specialist in 2020

The Seattle Seahawks could and should replace Tyler Lockett with Ugo Amadi or someone else as their return specialist for the 2020 season.

The Seattle Seahawks should consider replacing Tyler Lockett with Ugo Amadi as the team’s return specialist for the 2020 season.

Lockett has been the Seahawks No. 1 wide receiver since 2018 and has become one of the team’s most valuable assets. In the past two years, he has racked up 139 receptions for 2,022 receiving yards and 18 receiving touchdowns. Lockett only looks to become more deadly even alongside fellow wide receiver DK Metcalf, who is about to enter his second season following a sensational rookie year.

Leaving Lockett on the field to return punts only further risks injury, and Seattle cannot afford to lose one of its best playmakers in 2020.

Lockett could most likely be replaced by defensive back Ugo Amadi, who has seen action returning punts. However, the Seahawks could certainly find someone else on the roster to replace him as a return specialist if Amdai doesn’t end up fitting the bill.

Seahawks are scheduled to report to training camp on July 28.

Another prediction DK Metcalf will become Pro Bowler this season

Heading into just his sophomore year, analysts around the league believe Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is headed into a Pro Bowl season.

The 2020 NFL season has yet to kick off and Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is already in the spotlight. Heading into just his sophomore year, analysts around the league believe Metcalf is headed into a Pro Bowl season.

Last week, former Seahawks backup quarterback Jake Heaps aired his thoughts on Metcalf’s potential in 2020. Now, it’s Marc Sessler of NFL.com.

“We’ve learned to slow our expectations when it comes to rookie wideouts,” Sessler starts. “Plenty of first- and second-round receivers take years to warm up, but Metcalf fit in right away with Russell Wilson’s gang. His finest work came in a raucous 160-yard, one-touchdown outburst against the Eagles in the playoffs. Shrugging off his few remaining doubters, the beastly Metcalf fried Philly’s corners on multiple occasions, showed raw power with a rash of contested catches and put the game away with a streaking 36-yard grab downfield.

“Metcalf’s ceiling was questioned because of a limited college route tree and a penchant for drops. The only debate now is just how far he’ll climb.”

Metcalf will have to live up to the growing hype this season and if he and Wilson are able to connect like last year, a Pro Bowl nod is well within reach.
