Top 5 2026 QB considering Penn State with early decision looming

Will Penn State secure a major quarterback commitment for the Class of 2026?

There is still plenty of work for [autotag]James Franklin[/autotag] and his staff to get accomplished in the class of 2025 as they are working on securing another top group of recruits.

With the expanded Big Ten, maintaining a stronghold in recruiting is imperative to ensure they have success.

But while their main focus is still on the 2025 class, that’s not going to prevent them from going after their favorite targets in the class of 2026 and beyond.

Penn State already has one commitment in [autotag]Messiah Mickens[/autotag] and will be looking to add another.

According to Chad Simmons of On3, quarterback [autotag]Dia Bell[/autotag] is targeting a commitment date this summer after visiting multiple schools this spring. He feels like he’ll give out a list of his finalists before deciding, but wants to give an early commitment in his process (subscription required).

It was previously reported that the Nittany Lions impressed the 6-foot-3, 190-pound quarterback from Florida coming off his most recent visit in March.

Rated as the No. 12 overall player and fourth-best quarterback in his class by On3’s Industry Ranking, this would be a huge get for Penn State.

The coveted four-star has around 40 scholarship offers from different teams around the country, including multiple Power 4 conference teams who are some of the best programs in the country.

It’s interesting that Bell is targeting such an early commitment date considering how much time is left in his recruitment before he has to sign and make things official.

That will make it difficult for any program to hold onto the elite quarterback prospect throughout this time period, no matter who he commits to this summer.

For what it’s worth, On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Penn State with the second-best odds to land Bell at 15.3%. They follow only Ohio State who sits at 17.5%.

Five-star 2026 QB has love for Florida’s football program

One of the top quarterback prospects in the 2026 cycle really appreciates how Florida handles it’s QB room.

Florida football’s recruiting efforts have been mostly focused on the 2025 cycle but [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and Co. are also looking ahead to the class of 2026.

One of the Gators’ biggest targets on the horizon is five-star quarterback [autotag]Dia Bell[/autotag], a high school sophomore out of Fort Lauderdale (Florida) American Heritage. The 6-foot-3-inch, 190-pound passer is the son of former NBA star Raja Bell and also has connections to the Orange and Blue.

“I love the culture and love what they do with their quarterbacks. They are very invested in their quarterback room,” Bell told Gators Online at OT7 on Saturday. “On top of that, I have some connections there because my aunt went there to play basketball. I have family ties there, so it’s always cool to be back in Gainesville.”

Bell’s view on Florida’s coaches and program

Napier and offensive analyst [autotag]Ryan O’Hara[/autotag] have led the charge for the highly-heralded recruit, but it is the team effort on the staff side that has him feeling bullish on the Gators.

“A lot of guys are contributing to developing you in their quarterback room. My relationship is really good with them,” Bell noted.

Regarding where Florida stands in his recruitment, he said, “I feel like they’re up there.” The Sunshine State product has been to campus several times and has a good feel for what the university can provide him.

“They were one of my first 10 offers, so I’ve known them for a really long time. I’ve just been building that relationship with them ever since the first time I went up there.”

Recruiting Summary

Bell is rated at five stars and ranked No. 14 overall and No. 3 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking rates him at four stars and ranks him at Nos. 12 and 4, respectively.

On3’s recruiting prediction machine gives the Ohio State Buckeyes an edge in his recruitment with an 18.2% chance of signing him. The Penn State Nittany Lions (15.9%), Miami Hurricanes (9.2%) and Florida (7.7%) follow close behind.

Tennessee offers 2026 quarterback Dia Bell

Tennessee offers 2026 quarterback Dia Bell.

Tennessee offered a scholarship to 2026 quarterback prospect Dia Bell.

“I am grateful and blessed to have received an offer from the University of Tennessee,” Bell said.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback prospect is from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida.

There are not recruiting rankings for Bell from 247Sports, Rivals, On3 or ESPN.

Bell has offers from Tennessee, FIU, Western Carolina, BYU, Florida, Miami, West Virginia, Penn State, Houston, Vanderbilt, Ohio State, Nebraska, USF, Florida A&M, Western Michigan, Campbell, Auburn, Arizona, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ole Miss, Utah, Washington, Colorado, Louisville, LSU and Texas.

FIU was the first school to offer a scholarship to Bell on Jan. 21, 2023.

Ohio State offers its first quarterback with Chip Kelly as offensive coordinator

The Buckeyes make their first QB offer with Kelly as OC

It was a big question when Ohio State football hired [autotag]Chip Kelly[/autotag] as its offensive coordinator; how well would he recruit?

His former school, UCLA, ranked as the No. 89 overall class in 2024, No. 37 in 2023, and No. 61 in 2022 according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Safe to say, those aren’t up to Buckeye standards.

Kelly had issues in Los Angeles, but is looking to fix those in Columbus. As the offensive coordinator, along with head coach Ryan Day, they offered their first quarterback together, 2026 Floridian, [autotag]Dia Bell[/autotag].

The 6-foot, 2-inch, 195-pounder isn’t currently ranked by any major service, but that’s the norm for many in his class. However, looking at his offer list which consists of Florida, LSU, Penn State, Texas and others, Bell should be on many lists going forward.

It will be very interesting to track how involved Kelly is in recruiting for Ohio State, but it’s safe to say he’s right in the mix with Bell’s recruitment.

2026 quarterback Dia Bell to visit Auburn in March

The 6-foot-2, 192-pound prospect has already received an offer from the Tigers with plenty of other major programs also interested.

Class of 2026 quarterback [autotag]Dia Bell[/autotag] has announced his intention to visit Auburn this spring. The 6-foot-2, 192-pound prospect has already received an offer from the Tigers with plenty of other major programs also interested.

Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Miami, Indiana, Penn State as well as SEC programs Florida and LSU have already extended an offer to the sophomore.

Bell will make stops at two of those schools, Miami and LSU, a week before he comes down to the Plains. He’ll then continue to Texas, Penn State, West Virginia, Florida, and Mississippi State at some point later on in the spring or summer.

While it is still very early in the process for Bell, it is likely a prospect of his size and talent waits until the last minute to verbally commit to a program.

We’ll see how incoming Auburn freshman [autotag]Walker White[/autotag] performs over the next year and a half. His performance could tie directly into how hard head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and company go after Bell in the coming years.

Gators QB prospect, son of former NBA star announces trip to UF

The son of a former NBA shooting guard, and nephew of Florida women’s basketball star, will attend the Sept. 16 matchup between Florida and Tennessee.

Dia Bell, son of former NBA shooting guard Raja, is still pondering which school to commit to after he graduates in 2026.

Bell still has a long way to go and plenty of time to develop his skills. The young four-star prospect has a small list of schools where he’s showing interest including Brigham Young, Florida, Miami and Penn State.

The quarterback told reporters at On3 that he plans to attend the nationally televised showdown between the Florida Gators and Tennessee Volunteers.

Bell was already intrigued with Florida, even if his aunt and former WNBA star Tombi Bell never attended the school, the vibes of Gainesville caught his attention.

“I really like the energy around the program,” Bell told On3. “I was able to spend time at spring practice, and the competitiveness was awesome.”

Bell also elaborated on his growing relationship with head coach Billy Napier and offensive analyst Ryan O’Hara, stating that he has a good time during film breakdowns with O’Hara but wants to focus on his team for now.

Bell joins the Sept. 16 guest list of 24 uncommitted high school recruits from the 2024 and 2025 graduating classes. Bell will be the first prospect from 2026 to attend the game, Also attending the matchup between Florida and Tennessee are 2025 five-star quarterback commit DJ Lagway and five-star defensive lineman Armondo Blount.

Dia Bell plays for American Heritage High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. 247Sports hasn’t given him an official rating yet but that hasn’t stopped the offers from coming in.

The Florida Gators host the Volunteers in week three, but not before welcoming the McNeese State Cowboys on Saturday night with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The game will be streamed on ESPNU.
