G League guard and former Aggie Dexter Dennis traded to Cleveland Charge from Texas Legends

Dennis was dealt to the charge Tuesday in exchange for the rights to forward Fabian White and a first-round pick in the 2024 G League Draft.

A former shooting guard for the Texas A&M men’s basketball team is officially departing the Lone Star State after playing collegiately and professionally for the last three seasons.

Dexter Dennis is headed to The Land following a trade on Tuesday afternoon. The Texas Legends, the G League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks, traded Dennis this week to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ minor league team, the Charge.

Dennis was dealt Tuesday in exchange for the rights to forward Fabian White and a first-round pick in the 2024 G League Draft. Dennis went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft and signed with the Mavericks on Sept. 22. On Oct. 21, his contract was converted into a two-way deal.

In his third regular season game for Dallas on Dec. 22, Dennis made the most of his opportunity in limited action. He recorded 18 points on an efficient 8-of-11 field goal attempt with 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 17 minutes on the court.

Six days later, he was waived by the Mavericks and signed with the Legends. Now, he’s ready to go to work in Ohio.

Former Texas A&M star Dexter Dennis tallies career-high in Dallas Mavericks’ loss at Houston Rockets

The first-year shooting guard recorded 18 points on 8-of-11 field goal attempts with five rebounds and four assists in 17 minutes of action.

Rapper Suga Free once said, “I’mma stay ready so I don’t gotta get ready,” which was certainly the case for former Texas A&M star Dexter Dennis on Friday night in Houston.

Without superstars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, Dennis and the Dallas Mavericks lost 122-96 against the Rockets on Friday night at the Toyota Center. Dennis, however, had a phenomenal individual performance.

In his third regular season game for the Mavericks, Dennis made the most of his opportunity in limited action. The first-year shooting guard recorded 18 points on an efficient 8-of-11 field goal attempts with five rebounds and four assists in 17 minutes on the court.

Before Friday, the former Aggies star appeared in two games for Dallas in back-to-back days, on Dec. 1 & 2 against Memphis and Oklahoma City. In seven total minutes of action, Dennis combined to record four points and two rebounds.

Dennis is currently on a two-way contract with the Mavericks, splitting time with Dallas’ G-League affiliate, the Texas Legends, who play in Frisco.

Former Aggie Dexter Dennis agrees to two-way deal with the Dallas Mavericks

Former Aggie Dexter Dennis is staying in the Lone Star State, after agreeing to a two-way deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

The 2023-24 NBA season is just around the corner, and Aggie fans won’t have to look too far to watch one of their own make his career debut.

Former Aggie star Dexter Dennis is officially a member of the Dallas Mavericks after agreeing to a deal with the team on Saturday. Dennis’ contract was converted to a two-way deal, as shared by ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

Dennis spent five seasons at the collegiate level, with four years spent with Wichita State and the final year of his eligibility with the Aggies. He holds career averages of 9.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game.

At 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, with a massive 6-foot-11 wingspan, Dennis could provide a jolt of defensive intensity on the perimeter. The Mavericks have no shortage of offensive power behind the likes of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. With Dennis behind them in the rotation, he could prove valuable as a tenacious defender to come off the bench and match up against an opponent’s top scorer.

Congratulations to Dennis on the milestone achievement, and Aggieland can’t wait to see you in action! The Mavericks will kick off their regular season on October 25 on the road against No. 1 overall pick, and French phenom Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.

Former Aggie guard Dexter Dennis has officially signed onto the Dallas Mavericks training camp roster

Former Texas A&M guard Dexter Dennis is one step closer to making his NBA dream a reality after signing onto the Dallas Mavericks training camp roster.

Former Texas A&M guard Dexter Dennis is one step closer to making his NBA dream a reality, and he won’t be too far from College Station.

Early Friday morning, the Dallas Mavericks PR team announced that they had signed Dennis, which brings their training camp roster to 21 players. The news comes off the heels of last month’s report that the team had signed the former Aggies guard to an Exhibit-10 contract. Now, he’ll have a clear shot of making the roster ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Dennis brings five seasons of collegiate experience on his resume, with four years spent with Wichita State and the final year of his eligibility with the Aggies. He holds career averages of 9.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game.

Dennis will face an uphill battle to make the roster as he’s not necessarily known as a scorer, though he’s flashed his ability to buy a bucket many times before. He brings expertise in one area that has plagued the Mavericks: defense. Last year, Dallas posted a defensive rating of 116.7 (24th out of 30).

At 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, with a massive 6-foot-11 wingspan, Dennis could provide a jolt of defensive intensity on the perimeter, which is becoming paramount for any contender in today’s NBA. Nonetheless, his making the roster is a notable milestone, and we wish him all the best as the Mavericks kick off training camp on Sep. 27.

Undrafted forward Dexter Dennis to sign Exhibit 10 contract with Mavericks

Dennis played with the Magic in summer league, averaging nine points, three rebounds and one steal in four appearances.

Former Texas A&M forward Dexter Dennis, who went undrafted this year, will reportedly sign an Exhibit 10 contract with the Dallas Mavericks, according to Richard Stayman of MavsDraft.com.

His agency, One Motive Sports, confirmed the news on Friday.

Dennis averaged 9.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists on 39.2% shooting from the field in 34 games last season as a fifth-year senior. He scored in double figures 17 times, including a season-high 19 points in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The 6-foot-6 Dennis played with the Orlando Magic in the NBA Summer League. He averaged nine points, three rebounds and one steal on 35.7% shooting from 3-point range in four appearances.

Dennis will likely participate with the Mavericks in training camp and spend next season in the G League with the Texas Legends as part of his Exhibit 10 contract. He can receive a bonus of up to $75,000 if he is waived and stays with the Legends for at least 60 days.

Report: Dexter Dennis agrees to Exhibit 10 contract with Dallas Mavericks

Dexter Dennis has agreed to an Exhibit 10 deal with the Dallas Mavericks, setting him up to compete for a roster spot ahead of training camp.

Another Aggie basketball talent is making his journey to the NBA, and he won’t be too far from College Station.

Former Texas A&M guard Dexter Dennis has reportedly agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract with the Dallas Mavericks, which means the rookie wing won’t be leaving the Lone Star State as he enters the next chapter of his professional career. Richard Stayman of MavsDraft.com initially reported the news, which Dennis shared on his personal social media account.

After transferring from Wichita State to Texas A&M for his senior season, Dennis averaged 9.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 0.8 steals, and 0.6 blocks in 28.7 minutes per game for the Maroon and White. He recorded a career-best in rebounds and a second-best in scoring during his lone season in College Station.

Despite not hearing his name called in the 2023 NBA Draft, Dennis quickly joined the Orlando Magic’s summer league team for their run in July. He put together a strong performance when given a starting opportunity with the team, and it’s clear that the Mavericks like what they saw in his time on the floor.

An Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year, minimum-salary NBA deal that allows the franchise to convert the contract to a two-way contract if that change is made before the start of the regular season. The Mavericks have one open two-way contract as they head into training camp.

The competition will be tight, but we wish Dennis all the best as looks to make the most of his opportunity! Gig’em!

Former Aggie basketball star Dexter Dennis gives strong showing in NBA Summer League start

Former Aggie basketball star Dexter Dennis put on a complete performance in his first start during the 2023 Las Vegas Summer League.

Former Texas A&M basketball star Dexter Dennis put on a complete performance in his first full opportunity during the 2023 Las Vegas Summer League.

After registering a DNP in the Orlando Magic’s first summer league contest in Las Vegas, Dennis was given the starting nod in Thursday’s tilt versus the New York Knicks. In a performance that mirrored his impact while donning the Maroon and White, Dennis was active on both ends while flexing his potential to be a pure bucket-getter when needed.

The former Aggie scored 9 points on 3-for-5 shooting from the floor (2-for-3 from three), with two rebounds and a steal in 14 minutes of action. He finished with a plus-minus of +13, the second-highest among all Magic players.

Per the current summer league schedule format, each team plays at least five games throughout the tournament. Every team will play four games between July 7-14, with a fifth game hinging on the team’s record up to that point. After each team plays four games, the top four teams will advance to the playoffs. The 26 teams that do not advance to the four-team playoff will play a fifth game on either July 15 or July 16.

Given that Orlando’s record is 0-3 to date, odds are that Dennis and the Magic’s final game will fall in that latter category.

The Magic’s next bout is on Thursday, July 13, versus the Portland Trail Blazers, with tip-off set for 8 p.m. CT. Here’s to hoping Dennis has one more opportunity to show out in front of NBA scouts with a chance of landing a roster spot or a two-way contract.

Trio of former Aggies will play in the 2023 NBA Las Vegas Summer League

With the NBA’s Las Vegas Summer League underway, a trio of former Texas A&M stars will hit the hardwood with the goal of impressing scouts.

No. 1 overall pick and French phenom Victor Wembanyama won’t be the only showcase in the 2023 NBA Summer League. Fans will be able to catch a trio of former Texas A&M basketball stars hit the hardwood in Las Vegas.

A trio of former Aggies in Dexter Dennis, Quenton Jackson, and DJ Hogg will all partake in this year’s 2K24 NBA Summer League from Sin City, which runs from Friday, July 7th through the 17th. With all 30 NBA teams in action, it also provides a chance for the aforementioned three to display their skills in front of scouts, hoping to land a roster spot for the coming regular season.

Dennis headlines the group as the newest addition to make his way from College Station, having spent his final year of eligibility with Texas A&M following four seasons at Wichita State. In 34 games for the Aggies, he averaged his second-best scoring mark of 9.5 points per game while recording a career-best 5.7 rebounds and nearly a steal per game (0.8).

Jackson spent three seasons with Texas A&M from 2020 to 2022, logging career averages of 11.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. Jackson appeared in 29 games last season for the Capital City Go-Go, the Washington Wizards G League affiliate, averaging 15.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.

Hogg donned the Maroon and White from 2016 to 2018, averaging 9.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while being named SEC All-Freshman.

Hogg will be the first of the three to take the court when the Toronto Raptors face the Chicago Bulls on Friday, July 7, with the game airing on NBA TV and tip-off set for 5:30 p.m. CT.

On Saturday, July 8, Dennis will get his first taste of NBA action against the Detroit Pistons with tip-off scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT, and the game can be watched on ESPN. Shortly thereafter, Jackson will face the Indiana Pacers on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. CT.

Former Texas A&M star Dexter Dennis lands with Orlando Magic Summer League team

After helping lead Texas A&M basketball to one of its most successful seasons in recent memory, Dexter Dennis has signed with the Orlando Magic’s Summer League team.

After helping lead Texas A&M basketball to one of its most successful seasons in recent memory, Dexter Dennis is ready to begin his next chapter at the NBA level.

According to a source shared with MavsDraft.com, the former Aggie lockdown defender has signed with the Orlando Magic’s Summer League team. Dennis retweeted the report on Friday to his own Twitter page.

Despite being categorized as one of the best defensive prospects in this year’s class, Dennis did not hear his name called by one of 30 NBA teams during the 2023 NBA Draft. While mock drafts didn’t forecast him landing in the first round, it was surprising that a franchise didn’t look to call his name by the end of round two.

After spending four seasons at Wichita State, Dennis transferred to Texas A&M for his final year of eligibility. In 34 games for the Aggies, he averaged his second-best scoring mark of 9.5 points per game, while recording a career-best 5.7 rebounds per game and nearly a steal per game (0.8).

Given that Dennis embraced the two-way role he had with the Aggies, his scoring marks at the collegiate level may not immediately jump off the page. However, he’s proven adept at finding the basket when called upon, as he shot a strong 48.1 percent on two-pointers last season, while his 33.6 percent average from deep highlights his potential as a 3-and-D type of player.

Don’t overlook his 28-point performance (11-15 shooting, 4-5 from three) at the NTX Combine, either, as he’s more than liable to be a walking bucket when the moment calls for it.

You can catch Dennis in action when the Magic face the Detroit Pistons in their first Summer League matchup on Saturday, July 8. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT and the game will air on ESPN.

Former Texas A&M guard Dexter Dennis goes through pre-draft workout with Detroit Pistons

As the evaluation process ramps up ahead of June’s 2023 NBA Draft, former Texas A&M guard Dexter Dennis reportedly worked out for the Detroit Pistons.

As the evaluation process begins to ramp up ahead of June’s 2023 NBA Draft, a former Aggie is drawing interest from at least one franchise.

Former Texas A&M guard Dexter Dennis reportedly went through a pre-draft workout with the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday. At 6-5, 210 lbs, Dennis profiles as a quintessential two-way wing player that has increasingly become valuable in the NBA.

After spending four seasons at Wichita State, Dennis transferred to play for the Aggies with his final remaining year of eligibility. During his time in College Station, he averaged his second-best scoring average (9.5 PPG) while grabbing a career-high 5.7 rebounds per game.

The veteran guard also chipped in with 5.2 assists per game with a 1.6 defensive win share, with the latter ranking second-best among all Aggies last season.

Dennis’ veteran leadership and ability to impact both ends of the floor made him a seamless addition to Buzz Williams’ program while helping elevate a young Aggies team to a successful 25-10 campaign (15-3 SEC). A&M would go on to appear in their second consecutive SEC title game while punching their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018, eventually falling to Penn State in the first round.

Much like Dennis’ versatility helped strengthen an Aggies defense that allowed just 66.5 PPG (71st in the country), he has a great opportunity to provide a similar impact to a Pistons team at the NBA level.

Detroit is coming off a league-worst 17-65 record in which they ranked 28th out of 30th in defensive rating (118.9). The Pistons have a promising young core highlighted by Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey and would be wise to add some perimeter defense around those two. They currently hold the No. 5 overall pick in this year’s draft, alongside the 31st overall pick in the second round.

As we’ve seen throughout this year’s NBA postseason, having capable rotational players that can impact both ends of the floor can give a team a seismic advantage, or in the case of the Pistons, help bolster their roster toward future success.

While Dennis’ pre-draft workout with Detroit is encouraging news for his draft stock, the Pistons likely won’t be the only franchise with their eyes on the former Aggies guard. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as Dennis progresses further along in the evaluation process.
