CB Tre’Davious White

A week after a suspect outing for Tre’Davious White, which saw Dolphins receiver DeVante Parker muster up 100-plus yards against Buffalo’s defense, things were completely locked down. The secondary, as a whole, played well and was led by White. He had an interception and while following Courtland Sutton around at times, White shutdown the No. 1 wideout. On eight targets, Sutton had one catch for 27 yards on the Broncos’ opening drive. It looked like there was supposed to be some help over the top and the Broncos happened to find an opening in Buffalo’s zone defense. They didn’t find many more after.

DE Shaq Lawson

For the second time in his career, Shaq Lawson had a two-sack outing. His speed around the edge gave him an open look for his first takedown of Denver quarterback Brandon Allen, while his second came via a move to the middle of the Broncos’ offensive line. Lawson is now up to five sacks this season, a single-season career-high for him. He’ll look to continue adding to that as the season progresses, which will help him build his resume as free agency approaches for him.

Report card: Bills top Broncos 20-3

The Buffalo Bills moved to 8-3 on Sunday, after beating the Denver Broncos 20-3.

The Buffalo Bills have now moved to 8-3 after beating the Denver Broncos, 20-3 on Sunday. It was a defensive battle throughout most of the game but, Buffalo generated offense in key moments late in the game. At 8-3 this is the best start Buffalo has had since 1996. The team is currently holding onto a wild card spot in AFC postseason.

With that being said, here are the positional grades after Buffalo’s win vs. the Broncos:

Quarterback: C+

We will start with the ugly, Josh Allen threw a bad interception in the second quarter, as the pass sailed over the hands of John Brown and into the arms of Justin Simmons. Allen also had some ugly passes in the third quarter that should have been intercepted, but the Broncos secondary couldn’t handle Allen’s passes. 

Outside of some ugly throws, Allen converted 15 out of his 25 throws, a completion percentage of 60 percent. On his 15 throws he had 185 yards, an average of 12.3 yards per completion. Allen also flashed his escape ability and mobility, he had multiple scrambles that resulted in first downs. This was shown by his 56 yards on the ground. 

Allen also threw for two touchdowns on the day. In the second quarter he found Cole Beasley from 18 yards out, who created separation with his quick burst speed off the line of scrimmage. In the fourth quarter Allen hit the deep ball to John Brown which gave Buffalo their 17 point lead. Allen ended the game with 241 yards, a very productive game for the quarterback.

You might wonder, “How could a team dominate but win by only 17 points?” In reality, the game was not really as close as the score indicated.

Buffalo’s defense dominated a weak Broncos offense. Denver quarterback Brandon Allen was under duress all afternoon. Shaq Lawson recorded two sacks, while Star Lotulelei and Ed Oliver each added a sack to the team total. Lawson was in Denver backfield all afternoon, blowing past the Broncos offensive tackles with ease.

Tre’Davious White was a blanket on the Broncos best player, Courtland Sutton, all afternoon. Sutton only reeled in one pass out of eight targets, a catch on Denver’s first drive. White was credited with five passes defended on the day.

Linebacker Matt Milano was all over the field as well, registering six tackles and three passes defensed.

As a unit, the defense completely shut down the aerial game for the Broncos, allowing the fourth-year pro to collect only 82 yards through the air. Erase the yards lost via sacks by the Bills, and the Broncos gained only 49 net yards through their passing game.

Offensively, it took some time for Buffalo to put some distance on Denver. However, they stuck to the plan, and it turned out favorably for the team.

The Bills ran wild on Denver’s defense, gaining 244 yards on the ground as a team. Devin Singletary totaled 106 yards on 21 carries, while Frank Gore gained 65 yards on 15 rushes. Josh Allen added 56 yards on nine runs on the day.

Gore, the consummate professional, added another record to a memorable career. On a six-yard carry in the fourth quarter, Gore passed Barry Sanders for third all-time on the career rushing list.

Singletary also reached a milestone, as he eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark for the first time in his career.

Josh Allen had another solid game for the Bills, throwing two beautiful touchdown passes. He went 15-for-25 and 180 passing yards on the day. His streak of games without an interception ended with an errant pass in the second quarter. However, that miscue did not hurt Buffalo, as the defense eliminated any progress of the Broncos on the subsequent derive with a Tre’ Davious White interception.

Cole Beasley reeled in an 18-yard drive. His route was perfect and Allen put a throw on a rope to complete the score. The worries of Allen’s deep ball were put to rest in the fourth quarter, as the quarterback delivered a perfect pass for 34 yards to John Brown. The play initially was ruled incomplete, but the call was revered as Brown’s dive into the back corner of the end zone showed a clean catch.

Beasley led the Bills with six receptions for 76 yards.

Stephen Hauschka hit both of his field goals and point-after-touchdown attempts, helping put to rest some of his struggles from earlier in the season. Andre Roberts had a good day in the return game, averaging 8.2 yards on punt returns. He also returned a kickoff for 25 yards as well.

It was a complete game for Buffalo. The team followed the game plan by putting pressure on Denver through the Bills run game. They also played strong defense, forcing the Broncos to rely on their passing game, which was obviously not a strength this afternoon.

This are looking good for Buffalo, as they move to 8-3 for the first time since 1996.

Buffalo has a quick turnaround, as the team will get ready for their Thursday night Thanksgiving tilt against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. It will be a big game for both teams, as the Bills are working toward solidifying their second playoff berth in three years while the Cowboys are facing a challenge from the Philadelphia Eagles for the top spot in the NFC East.

The 7-3 Buffalo Bills meet the 3-7 Denver Broncos this Sunday at New Era Field. Buffalo is riding high after it’s best offensive endeavor of the season against the Dolphins in Week 11. Denver is one of the better teams in the NFL with a sub .500 record, and will be a handful to compete against.

Here is everything that you need to know about the history between Denver and Buffalo:

  • Buffalo and Denver first met on September 18, 1960 in the inaugural season of the AFL. Denver won that game 27-21.
  • Buffalo won nine straight against Denver between 1962 and 1967.
  • Buffalo and Denver met in the 1991 AFC Championship Game. The Bills narrowly defeated the Broncos 10-7.
  • Their last meeting was on September 24, 2017. The Bills won 26-16.
  • The Bills have the all-time record lead, at 20-16-1 against Denver in the regular season.
  • The Bills also lead in scoring all-time versus Denver, outscoring them 891-818

2018 Season

Denver, much like this year, was a relatively competitive team in 2018, despite their record. Case Keenum was signed in the offseason, in hopes to solidify their quarterback woes since Peyton Manning retired. It wasn’t enough, as the Broncos offense didn’t have a lot of star power, and the defense, although very talented, gave up some losses for them.

Denver finished the season 6-10, missing the playoffs for the third-straight year. They earned wins over Seattle, Arizona, Oakland, Cincinnati, Los Angeles (Chargers), and Pittsburgh.

Another disappointing season for General Manager John Elway, who would look to bring about more change following the 2018 year.

Last season, Denver finished 19th in Total Offense, with 5,602 yards. 24th in scoring, with 329 points. 19th in passing yards with 3,695 and 12th in rushing with 1,907 yards.

Case Keenum, coming off of his miracle season with the Minnesota Vikings, actually threw for a few more yards with Denver. His touchdown to interception ratio is what hurt him and his tenure, as he was traded to Washington after his year with the Broncos was over.

Keenum was ranked 14th in passing yards in 2018, with 3,890 yards to his credit, along with 18 touchdowns to 15 interceptions.

Rushing was a strong point for Denver in 2018,. After losing C.J. Anderson, who had regressed, quarterback wasn’t the only hole that the Broncos faced. Led by drafted rookie Royce Freeman, and undrafted rookie Philip Lindsay. One of the more underrated one-two punches in the NFL, the pair finished very well, and helped carry struggling offense.

Lindsay finished the highest as far as yardage, ranking ninth in the NFL amongst rushers, with 1,037 yards. He also accrued nine rushing touchdowns. His backfield partner, Freeman, finished 38th in rushing yards, with 521 and five touchdowns.

Receiving hasn’t been one of Denver’s strong aspects either, as they have lost a few weapons over the years since Manning left. Emmanuel Sanders was their leading receiver in 2018, finishing 27th with 868 yards and four touchdowns.

Emerging receiver Courtland Sutton, was next in yardage totals at the receiver position, with 704. He came in at 51st in the NFL. No other Broncos receiver or tight end finished in the Top 100.

Defensively, the Broncos were 13th in total defense, allowing 5,842 yards, as well as in points allowed with 349 points scored on them. Their passing defense came in 20th, giving up 3,929 yards by air. The rush defense, 12th with 1,913 yards given up on the ground.

The Buffalo Bills face the struggling Denver Broncos at New Era Field on Sunday, here are the matchups to watch

The rivalry between the Bills and the Broncos goes back to the AFL and the two have shared memorable moments throughout the years. Their last matchup was in Week 3 of the 2017 season, which resulted in a 26-16 victory for Buffalo.

This week the two teams are facing off with two contrasting seasons. The Bills are sitting at 7-3 and on the verge of a playoff birth. The Broncos though are at a disappointing 3-7.

Records aside, it will be the games within that games that will help us find the winner.

With that, here are five key matchups to watch in Sunday’s Bills-Broncos meeting:

Phillip Lindsay vs. Tremaine Edmunds 

Second-year running back Phillip Lindsay has made a splash since his arrival in the NFL, amassing 1,688 yards, 5.2 yards per carry and 14 touchdowns a a rookie. Now, Lindsay is the focal point of the struggling Denver offense. 

This season Lindsay is averaging an impressive 4.9 yards per carry, which should unnerve Buffalo’s shaky run defense. The Bills’ rush defense has allowed 106.3 yards per game, which is 18th in the NFL. The Bills should be prepared for heavy doses of Lindsay, due to how poor the Broncos passing offense has been this season sitting at 25th in the league with just 206.6 yards per game. 

While the Bills rush defense has had poor form recently, they bounced back against Miami, holding the Dolphins rushing attack to just 23 yards. The Bills were led by linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who had 12 tackles against Miami.  

Edmunds was sent on more blitzes versus Miami than the rest of the season. These blitzes let him use his natural athletic talent to reach the running back in the backfield, or at the line of scrimmage. He blew up runs on a consistent basis which turned Miami into a one dimensional offense. 

If Edmunds can have a similar performance on Sunday, he can force quarterback Brandon Allen to try to beat the Bills secondary.

Six numbers to know from the Buffalo Bills’ Week 11 win over the Miami Dolphins.

So you wanted a statement game? You wanted style points? Done and done.

The Buffalo Bills played their best game of the season – led by what was arguably quarterback Josh Allen’s best game as a pro in a 37-20 thumping of the Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday in Week 11.

The win bumps Buffalo’s record to 7-3, its best mark after 10 games since 1999.

Here are six numbers to know from the win:

For better or worse, this team will go as far as Allen can take them. Despite having a borderline elite defense, it’s going to be the second-year signal caller that is going to determine whether or not Buffalo’s hunt for the postseason is a success.

On Sunday, Allen did nearly everything right. He threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns on 21-of-33 passing and ran for 56 yards and a score on seven carries – all without a turnover. His 117.1 passer rating was the highest of his career.

Detractors are going to say he failed to hit the 300-yard passing mark, or that it was a muted performance based on the opposition, but Allen was downright exceptional in South Beach.

The beat just goes on and on for John Brown. Brown turned in his best game as Bill, hauling in nine receptions for 137 yards and two scores. He extended his streak of consecutive games with at least five receptions and 50 yards to 10 games and is now at 56 receptions for 817 yards and four touchdowns on the season.

Brown is on pace for 90 receptions, 1307 yards and six touchdowns. His three-year, $27-million contract is looking more and more like a steal.

Fans have been pleading to get running back Devin Singletary more involved in the offense. The Bills did just that Sunday; Singletary led the team with 75 rushing yards on a team-high 15 attempts and finished with 16 total touches and 79 yards of total offense. It was the fourth-straight game in which Singletary led the team in rushing attempts.

Frank Gore finished with 11 carries for 27 yards, and the changing of the guard that Buffalo fans have expected may finally be upon us.

Robert Foster’s season-long struggles continued Sunday; he failed to see the field in the victory. While Brown, Cole Beasley and Isaiah McKenzie each played at least 78 percent of Buffalo’s offensive snaps, and Andre Roberts seeing nine snaps, Foster was the odd man out after playing just 16 snaps a week ago.

In seven games this season, Foster has just one reception for 20 yards – signaling the Bills are likely moving on from the second-year receiver.

Buffalo’s defense recorded a season-high seven sacks and tallied 14 quarterback hits. While the lone turnover Buffalo forced came via an Allen Hurns fumble, the Bills were equally disruptive against the Dolphins ground game — holding Miami to just 23 rushing yards.

After two straight games away from home, Buffalo returns to New Era Field in Week 12 to take on Denver. The Bills opened as five-point favorites over the Broncos (3-7), who squandered a 20-0 lead in a 27-23 loss to Minnesota Sunday.

Buffalo is 6-3-1 against the spread, but just 2-3 ATS at home, while Denver is 6-4 against the spread and 3-2 ATS on the road.

The Bills had their way with the Miami Dolphins for most of their Week 11 meeting as Buffalo secured a 37-20 victory.

All three phases of the game for the Bills made an impact in this one – mostly for better, but at times for worse.

With that, here’s Bills Wire’s Week 11 stock report following Buffalo’s win:

Still no 300-yard outings for the Bills quarterback. Allen finished with 256 yards passing against the Dolphins, but he undoubtedly had a heck of a day. Overall, Allen was 21-for-33 passing with three TD passes, plus another rushing score. He also had 56 yards rushing.

Somehow, the Bills should convince Allen he’s playing the Dolphins every week. In his brief career, he’s brought some of his best stuff against them. And while opening this with a 300-yard joke, Allen would surely hit that mark, perhaps even consistently, if he treated every team like the Dolphins. Aside from a quick series that saw him toss three straight incompletions, there was a lot of good from the QB in Week 11. Allen continues to not turn the ball over as well, as he hasn’t tossed a pick in 163 straight passes.

WR John Brown

Allen’s successes wouldn’t have been there if it wasn’t for Brown, though. In his best game with the Bills, Brown caught nine passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns against the Dolphins. Brown had 14 targets as well, so Allen was certainly looking for him a lot.

Brown’s 82.9 overall grade from Pro Football Focus gave him the team’s highest grade on the day and he’s in line to be one of the team’s most consistent playmakers in about two decades. No one expected that when he signed on the dotted line, but no one is mad about it, either.

Report card: Bills win 37-20 vs. Dolphins

The Bills came out swinging against the Dolphins, who took an early lead and never looked back.

The Buffalo Bills continued their strong road performances this season with 37-20 win over the Miami Dolphins. The Bills are now 7-3, sitting pretty for a wild card spot.

After their loss against the Browns, the Bills offense was called into question by both their fans and the media. The Bills responded by pouring on 37 points against a poor Miami defense.

The Bills defense also came out and stopped the run, as well as getting pressure to the quarterback. It wasn’t a perfect game from Buffalo, but a step in the right direction after the disappointing loss to Cleveland.

After the victory in Miami, here’s how the Bills graded in this week’s report card:

Quarterback: A-

This was possibly the best performance by Josh Allen in his young career. Allen started the game strong, but on the first two drives he couldn’t create touchdowns, only field goals. On the third drive Allen found receiver John Brown for a 40-yard touchdown strike. Allen hit Brown who was streaking down the sideline, and Brown bumped off a defender before heading into the end zone.

After a drive that led to just a field goal, Allen worked some red zone magic and found tight end Dawson Knox who shrugged off a defender after the catch to walk in for the score on an all-out blitz from the Dolphins defense. In the third quarter Allen had an eight-yard scramble where he used his speed to reach the outside and hurdle for the score.

It wasn’t a perfect game for Allen, he didn’t complete many deep shots, and had some head scratching throws. Ultimately, Allen had one of the best games of his career. He completed 21 out of his 33 passes, a 63.6 completion percentage, he threw for 256 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

The Buffalo Bills went down to Miami and took care of the business, squishing the “fish”(mammals) in their second encounter of the season with a score of 37-20. It was the most points accrued by this Bills offense all season, and they shined in all aspects. Mustached Buffalo offense coordinator Brian Daboll got it done.

Despite what their record may say, Mimai was a valiant team, and had been riding high on a two-game win streak, but the Bills slowed them down. There were a few moments where the Dolphins had opportunities to take over the game, but they could not capitalize.

Miami only attempted to rush a mere 13 attempts for 23 yards, a questionable decision since rushing up the middle worked to their advantage in the first encounter.

The offense for Buffalo was essentially fan service against Miami, and the Bills social media crowd got their way. Devin Singletary was the primary running back, getting key downs and leading the rushing yardage. Quarterback Josh Allen heaved the ball around, hitting wideout John Brown for two touchdown passes, further cementing Brown’s roster spot for years to come. Brown, who many have only viewed as “just a deep ball guy” has shown that he can be the No. 1 receiver that the team has desperately needed for a long time.

The Buffalo Bills got back on the right side of the win column with a convincing 37-20 win Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. The Bills allowed Miami to stay within a reasonable distance throughout the afternoon but in reality, the game was in Buffalo’s grasp all day.

It was a solid day for Josh Allen, who just seems to thrive when facing Miami. He accounted for four touchdowns on the day–three through the air and one on the ground.

Each of the aerial scores were impressive plays. John Brown found a space along the sideline against the Dolphins’ cover-two defense and beat the safety for a 40-yard touchdown reception. Dawson Knox displayed his power on a 23-yard touchdown reception, breaking a tackle and rumbling between the center of the field to score on a play where the Dolphins sent an all-out blitz.

To seal the deal, Allen rolled to his right and found Brown for a nine-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter to give the Bills a three-score lead in the final frame.

Allen ended the day 21-of-33 for 256 yards through the air. He also added 57 yards on the ground prior to the team’s victory formation.

John Brown was the big winner out wide, as he led the Bills with 137 yards receiving on nine catches. He found space all afternoon in Miami’s secondary, and Allen was decisive in getting the ball in his wideouts hands.

Buffalo’s brass made a concerted effort to get the ball in the hands of Devin Singletary. The rookie shouldered the load throughout the game and helped close out the game in the fourth quarter. Singletary ran 15 times for 75 rushing yards. It’s apparent that he will be the focal point of Buffalo’s ground attack going forward. He did fumble twice, but the Bills recovered both miscues. Still, it’s something that the Florida Atlantic product will need to clean up going forward.

Defensively, Buffalo was in Fitzpatrick’s face all afternoon. The Bills tallied seven sacks. Shaq Lawson, Jordan Phillips, Ed Oliver, Star Lotulelei, Jerry Hughes, and Corey Liuget registered sacks, while Matt Milano and Tremaine Edmunds split a sack.

Outside of a Devante Parker 50-yard reception, the Dolphins did not produce much on offense. Miami put up some numbers in the fourth quarter after the game was in hand, so the 323 yards allowed through the air is a bit deceiving

Parker ended up with a nice stat line, but he, along with Miami, had little to show for it. Parker reeled in seven catches for 135 yards on the day.

The Bills run defense, which was gouged the past few weeks, made progress this week. Buffalo finished with nine tackles for loss on the day, allowing only 23 yards on the ground.

Buffalo benefited from Maimi’s mistakes. The Dolphins were guilty for six accepted penalties, thwarting progress on several occasions. In addition, wide receiver Allen Hurns fumbled a reception on his own, which Jordan Poyer recovered.

The only concern on the day was the special teams unit. Jakeem Grant ran a kickoff back 101 yards at the end of the first half, a play that he outran the entire coverage unit moving from left to right. There were several players on the Bills unit who were merely diving at air. Grant would average 39.6 yards per kick return.

The unit was out-smarted on an onside kick, one in which Miami kicker Jason Sanders recovered a ground kick by himself.

While the coverage units left a little bit to be desired, the Bills had a sign of relief as Stephen Hauschka returned to form, connecting on all three of his field goal attempts in addition to four successful extra-point tries.

This was the type of game that Buffalo needed. They were the superior team on paper, and they showed it on the field. The Bills’ offensive and defensive units played an ideal game. Buffalo looks to build upon this victory next week, as they take on the Denver Broncos Sunday at New Era Field.
