Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum to son Deuce: I was better than you at 4

The St. Louis native is not even the most popular Tatum in the wider Celtics family, with his son Deuce claiming that title for himself.

Boston Celtics superstar swingman Jayson Tatum is by all accounts a top-10 player in the NBA this season, and in some circles is seen as a Most Valuable Player candidate, which would place him in the league’s top five by default. But the St. Louis native is not even the most popular Tatum in the wider Celtics family; his son Deuce claims that title.

The popular toddler is already trying his hand at his father’s sport, and — perhaps out of a bit of jealousy of his son’s popularity (we jest, of course) — in a recent interview with the eponymous host of the “In Depth with Jason Bensinger” show, Tatum shared he believes he was the better basketball prospect when he was a four-year-old lad.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what the former Duke standout had to say about Big and Little Deuce’s shared affection for the game, with a glimpse at Tatum’s home as well.

Jayson Tatum on becoming a new dad ahead of his career with the Boston Celtics

It did not take long for the former Blue Devil to decide that nothing else mattered other than taking care of Little Deuce.

When it comes to being Deuce’s father, by his own admission star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum admits he was taken by surprise. In a recent interview with the eponymous host of the “In Depth with Jason Bensinger” show, the St. Louis native opened up about having a son with his high school girlfriend, breaking the news to his mother Brandy Cole, and how he changed his life to be a better father to the most popular Tatum in the Celtics world.

It did not take long for the former Blue Devil to decide that nothing else mattered other than taking care of Little Deuce, and Tatum embraced the role of being a young father with an admirable gusto.

Deuce Tatum viciously rejected at the rim by his father Jayson

Taco Jay’s son looked quite surprised but seemed to take the rejection in stride.

Deuce Tatum might be his father’s son, but that does not get the youngest baller in the Tatum family any preferential treatment on the court from his dad, star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum.

The young fan favorite was making an appearance recently at his dad’s pro camp and cut toward the basket while his father guarded him. But Deuce is not quite ready for the NBA. The elder Tatum mercilessly swatting his layup attempt into another area code. Taco Jay’s son looked quite surprised but seemed to take the rejection in stride, an important part of learning to play the game at a high level.

To watch the former Duke standout and his adorable son (sort of) play some one-on-one ball at Tatum’s youth camp, check out the clip below, courtesy of our own Cameron Tabatabaie.

WATCH: Deuce Tatum ‘training’ with his dad, Grant Williams ahead of Game 3 of the 2022 NBA Finals

Moments like this are an invaluable perk growing up in an NBA family.

While it is very possible that Jayson Tatum Jr. (better known to Boston Celtics fans as Deuce) might grow up to be anything but an NBA athlete like his father, the star Boston forward currently wreaking havoc on the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals, if that is indeed the career path he chooses to take, he will have no end to the resources available to him in pursuing it.

Take, for example, his regular, front-row seats to watch his father player at such a high level of basketball. Or for that matter, the fact that his dad and the rest of the Celtics roster have taken a shine to the boy as much of the world has, even “including” him in their pre-game training regimen.

Check out the clip embedded below, provided courtesy of our sister site Humankind, that shows Deuce and Taco Jay working out ahead of Game 3 of the Finals.

Even if he ends up being a banker, a boxer, or even a sports journalist instead, moments like this are an invaluable perk growing up in an NBA family he will enjoy for decades to come.

Jayson Tatum’s son hilariously left Grant Williams hanging in the locker room and it was hilarious

Deuce Tatum, man. He’s a savage. Already.

Jayson Tatum has been the Celtics’ biggest name this postseason. There’s no debating that.  But Grant Williams has been the unsung hero for the Boston Celtics throughout their playoff run.

He’s done everything for them from doing the dirty work on the defensive end to jacking up countless 3-pointers to even sneaking into opposing team huddles to try and disrupt their flow.

Williams has been the bellwether for the Celtics’ success. If he’s playing well, then they’re probably playing well. When he’s not? They’re probably not either.

He definitely played well in Game 2 against the Heat. Williams checked in with about 5 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. The Celtics proceeded to go on a 57-27 run. In just 18 minutes, Williams finished the game at +30.

You’d think that’d be good enough to earn him a few daps in the locker room, right? When the game was over and everyone was celebrating, Williams walked by all his teammate’s lockers and gave them daps.

But there was one person who absolutely refused to show Williams some love. And that was Jayson Tatum’s son, Deuce.

Instead of dapping him up, Deuce just stared a hole into his face. And then walked away.

It was simultaneously the most adorable, yet, the most savage thing I’ve ever seen. He just doesn’t rock with Grant like that. Wow.

Like, look at his face y’all.

He’s totally like “you’d better step away from me, buddy.” Not playing any games with Grant. When kids don’t like you, they don’t like you. And they do not hesitate to show it.

This is hilarious, man. Everyone loved this.

Jayson Tatum’s son Deuce shares his plans for Miami after his father, Celtics send the Milwaukee Bucks fishing

The younger Tatum is ready for South Beach.

You might think that the star of the Boston Celtics’ series’ clinching win against the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks would be the unlikely hero who came out of nowhere to hit a career-high 27 points on 7 made 3-pointers in Grant Williams, or at least All-Star forward Jayson Tatum, who kept the team afloat through several tough patches with his 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists.

But the show at the podium after the big win was stolen by another Tatum entirely — the St. Louis native’s young son Deuce. Asked by the media if he was excited to go to Miami while sitting alongside his father after the game, the younger Tatum shared what it was he most looked forward to doing on arrival in the south Florida metropolis.

Check out the NBA TV clip embedded below snipped from the postgame media availability session to hear what that might be for yourself while you bask in the glow (or the sting) of the Celtics’ Game 7 victory.

Boston’s Marcus Smart spills the beans on latest with conflict with Celtics star Deuce Tatum

Could this be the secret sauce driving Boston’s recent success?

Despite all of the good vibes surrounding the Boston Celtics at the moment after they pummeled the Utah Jazz 125 – 97 on Wednesday night, an undercurrent remained behind the scenes of an ongoing conflict between two key members of the wider Celtics organization simmered beneath the surface.

Longtime Boston point guard Marcus Smart has had his share of fights with the team’s biggest star Deuce Tatum, and it erupted once again courtside as Deuce did his best to hit Smart while in a live play on the court. And while there was no word from the younger Tatum as to what was the animus for the dispute, Smart spoke on the conflict postgame.

Asked if he was aware of the swings that were taken at him by the (very) young Celtics star, Smart replied in the affirmative, noting he and Deuce had “a love – hate relationship.”

This tension could well be the fuel behind Boston’s recent spate of success, the dynamic energy created by the ire between the two pushing to the team to new levels.

Whatever the case may be, it brings an interesting new dimension to some of the best Celtics basketball we have seen from the organization in years.

Deuce Tatum meets Kevin Garnett on the court at TD Garden

In this matchup, we all win.

For perhaps the first time in his still-young career as a celebrity in Boston Celtics circles, rising superstar Deuce Tatum met another star who shines as bright in the eyes of their fans. That would of course be Hall of Fame Celtics champion center Kevin Garnett, in TD Garden for his jersey retirement ceremony.

The two went toe-to-toe on the parquet after Deuce’s dad dropped the ball against the Mavericks earlier in the day, and while Garnett might have come out on top at 6-foot-11, it is safe to say that Deuce’s cuteness has him positioned to contend with The Big Ticket in the hearts of Boston fans for many years to come.

In all seriousness, you need to check out this clip of the pair making each other’s acquaintances after KG’s big moment this Sunday.

WATCH: Boston’s Jayson Tatum shares birthday video made for him by son Deuce

If this doesn’t hit you in the feels, you might want to see a doctor about that.

While the joke that Boston Celtics All-Star point guard is only 19 years old has been around at least as long as when he was, he most certainly is not as of today, his actual 24th birthday. And among those of us who follow his career in the NBA closely know just how important his son Deuce is, as well as his hometown of St. Louis, Chaminade Prep, and even Imo’s Pizza are to the Duke product.

Tatum shared a glimpse into all of the above via a video put together by his son (presumably with some adult accomplices) to celebrate all of Tatum’s loves, and if it doesn’t get you right in the feels, you might just want to see if you happen to be the Grinch.

Check out the clip embedded below that Tatum shared to social media on his birthday today and see for yourself — there’s a reason why the younger Tatum rivals his pops in popularity at times. And before we forget, happy birthday, Jayson!
