In fact, Detroit almost cannot hit worse against lefties so it’s due for some progression toward the mean. Pérez being on the hill could be the perfect slump buster as this Tigers lineup has raked against Pérez when they’ve faced him.

Mize has been inconsistent so far this season but he was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Amateur Draft and has electric stuff.

Kluber just had his best outing of the season last time out and is very familiar with the Tigers from his nine-year stint with the AL Central rival Cleveland Indians from 2011-19.

He’s won five straight games against Detroit—all of which were quality starts—Kluber has a 0.94 ERA and a 42/3 K/BB ratio in those games.

Kluber is set up well for another strong outing since Detroit’s lineup is in the bottom-5 teams in wRC+, wOBA and OPS vs. right-handed pitching this season.

However, since there’s a lot of vig for New York’s regular run line, I “LEAN” to the YANKEES -1.5 (+100) in the FIRST 5 INNINGS for a half unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

GIMME the OVER 9 (-105) for a three-fourths unit for a few reasons.

First, despite Kluber’s historical dominance against Detroit, the current Tigers hitters have solid production in the batter’s box vs. Kluber.

For instance, in 136 at-bats, Detroit’s current lineup is slashing .309/.343/.574 slash line (batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage) with 9 HR and 18 RBIs. So perhaps, the Tigers do a little damage early to Kluber and chip in on this Over.

Second, I like New York’s chances at chasing Ureña early and Detroit’s ‘pen has the highest home run per 9 innings rate, the third-highest SIERA and fourth-highest xFIP.

Lastly, Yankee Stadium is notoriously a hitter-friendly ballpark and the weather forecast predicts double-digit MPH winds blowing out to center field.

As a part of a twin bill, keep in mind the total here is for a 7-inning game. Thursday’s forecast calls for temps in the mid-50s and a breeze out to right-center. There’s a bit of an Under lean with a feeling the Chicago bullpen is underrated. The Tigers offense is legitimately awful and the Under is 16-7-1 in their games.

On the number and the price, the Under 6 (-110) lean is razor-thin, actionable perhaps only as a partial unit play.

The Tigers own a toothless .709 OPS against Giolito, and the White Sox hurler is backed by a top-5 bullpen that figures to be much better than its 4.64 surface ERA. It’s also rested after Monday’s off day.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for a warmed-up Chicago and a double-digit breeze out to left field but consider a bet on the UNDER 8 (-110), especially if the price slides toward Over betting as it has in parts of the morning market.

The Tigers lineup against righties typically skews left and won’t figure to leverage the right-pull wind. Urena (and to a moderate degree the Detroit bullpen) does well to keep the ball out of the air. Add in a play on Giolito and the Sox relievers being undersold by their surface numbers.

The Tigers are off to a terrible start against southpaws, but it’s a small sample, and (albeit in another small sample) they have a solid .874 OPS against Minor. Mize brings out the lesser side of the Royals’ splits with their .696 OPS vs. right-handed pitching.

The offenses for either side aren’t that likable; the pitching is even less so.

Both bullpens figure as bottom-third units. KC’s bats have started to come around a bit of late with a .770 OPS over their last 8 games.

Temperatures in the mid-to-high-50s represent a significant warm-up; the Tigers may feel like this game is being played in Grapefruit League weather after recent frozen nights in the Motor City.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

“LEAN” to the ASTROS -1.5 (-105) for a half unit because Houston has an edge in the starting pitcher matchup and plays well vs. lefties.

The Astros are 4-2 this season vs. left-handed starters and had a winning record against lefties last season despite having an overall losing record.

Since the beginning of last season, the Astros are above-average in wRC+, wOBA and OPS vs. lefties.

Also, if Boyd doesn’t eat up a lot of innings in his start, Houston could rake a Detroit bullpen that’s dead-last in ERA.

Over/Under (O/U)

Slight “LEAN” to the OVER 9 (-105) for a quarter unit because whether it’s against Boyd or Detroit’s ‘pen, the Astros should score at least seven runs and. Plus, I still want to see how Odorizzi looks after having an injury-plagued 2020.

Furthermore, the market slightly prefers the Under hence it is more expensive.

I’d rather fade than follow the market considering it’s betting an Under in a matchup between starting pitchers that both had an above 6.50 ERA in 2020.
