Season series: Magic lead 3-0

The Magic beat the Utah Jazz 115-107 Thursday, covering as 6.5-point home favorites. They have won 2 in a row and 5 of their last 6, covering the spread in 4 of those 6. Orlando is 39-21 against the spread (ATS) on the season. It is led by F Paolo Banchero, who is averaging 22.8 points per game (PPG).

The Pistons lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers 110-100 Friday, failing to cover as 7-point home underdogs. Detroit has lost 7 of its last 8 games, yet is 3-1 ATS in its last 4. It is 6-4 ATS in its last 10 and 30-29 ATS on the season. The Pistons are led by G Cade Cunningham, who is averaging 22.4 PPG.

Pistons at Magic picks and predictions

Prediction

Magic 114, Pistons 100

Moneyline

PASS.

The Magic have beat the Pistons in all 3 games and beat the Pistons by 32 in Orlando earlier in the season. However, they certainly aren’t worth any wager at -590.

Against the spread

BET MAGIC -11 (-110).

The Pistons have failed to cover 3 of their last 5 games as double-digit underdogs. Detroit lost by just 3 to Orlando Feb. 24 but shot over 50% from the field. That is unlikely to repeat itself.

The Magic are 3-1 ATS in their last 4 games as double-digit favorites. Orlando has a strong defense that should limit what Detroit can do offensively. The Magic are a league-best 19-8 ATS at home.

Back MAGIC -11 (-110).

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 217 (-110).

The Magic have gone Under in 4 straight games and have allowed Under 110 points in each. They have held 6 straight opponents Under that threshold. Orlando is 29-31 O/U on the season. The Pistons have gone Under in 8 straight games and have scored 105 or fewer in 2 straight.

Detroit sits 25th in offensive rating while Orlando is 5th in defensive rating. With Orlando also 26th in pace, expect a slow-tempo, low-scoring battle. TAKE UNDER 217 (-110).

Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Cleveland Cavaliers (38-20) and Detroit Pistons (9-49) meet Friday with tip-off from Little Caesars Arena set for 7 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Cavaliers vs. Pistons odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: Cleveland leads 3-0

Cleveland suffered a 132-123 double OT loss vs. the Chicago Bulls Wednesday, failing to cover as a 5.5-point road favorite. The Cavaliers were outrebounded by an astounding 74-39 in the loss. Cleveland is 2-1 in its last 3 games and it has failed to covered the spread in 7 consecutive outings.

Detroit picked up a 105-95 win over the Chicago Bulls Tuesday while covering as a 10-point road underdog. Detroit held the Bulls to only 39.8% shooting from the field and 6.9% shooting from deep in the loss. Tuesday’s win ended a 6-game losing streak for the Pistons.

Cavaliers at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Cavaliers 112, Pistons 109

Moneyline

PASS.

Cleveland is a dominant 7-3 in its last 10 meetings with Detroit, and the Cavaliers are the much better team, but they are not worth the risk of betting on as such heavy (-370) favorites. Bet on the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

 BET PISTONS +9 (-110).

Detroit has covered the spread in each of its last 3 games and is 6-3 ATS in its last 9 outings. The Pistons have also covered the spread in 3 consecutive games vs. Cleveland. Detroit is 6-3-1 ATS in its last 10 matchups vs. Cleveland and is 30-28 ATS this season while the Cavs are 28-30.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 222.5 (-110).

The Under has hit in 7 consecutive games for Detroit and is 8-2 in its last 10. For Cleveland, the Under is 6-4 in its last 10 outings and is 31-26-1 on the season. The Under has also hit in 6 of the last 7 Cleveland-Detroit matchups.

Portland Trail Blazers at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Portland Trail Blazers at Detroit Pistons odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Portland Trail Blazers (1-3) and Detroit Pistons (2-2) meet Wednesday at Little Caesars Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Trail Blazers vs. Pistons odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Blazers won series 2-0 in 2022-23

The Trail Blazers snapped a 3-game losing streak Monday with a 99-91 win in Toronto, also picking up their 1st cover of the season in 4 outings. The Blazers have had difficulty scoring points, averaging just 98.0 PPG across the past 3 outings, hitting the Under in 2 of those contests.

The Pistons suffered a 124-112 setback against the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road Monday, halting a modest 2-game winning streak and 3-0 against-the-spread (ATS) run to start the season. The Over has cashed in the past 2 outings after the Under hit in the 1st 2 outings.

Portland has won 7 straight meetings in this series since Detroit last won 99-90 on March 30, 2019, at home. The Blazers have covered 6 straight in the series, too.

Trail Blazers at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Trail Blazers 110, Pistons 104

Moneyline

The TRAIL BLAZERS (+125) are worth a look as short ‘dogs on the road in Motown.

Portland has won 7 in a row in this series, but obviously that was prior to the team shipping G Damian Lillard out of the Rose City. Still, the Blazers head into this one with a little steam after upending the Raptors in Toronto as 10-point underdogs.

Against the spread

The TRAIL BLAZERS +3.5 (-110) are a decent play if you can’t pick them straight up. Portland has covered 6 in a row in this series.

The Pistons -3.5 (-110) opened the season with a 3-0 ATS run, but they were tripped up in OKC in the 1st meeting against a Western Conference team. Detroit has lost 5 straight against teams from the West, including a 110-104 loss to Portland on March 6 last season.

Over/Under

UNDER 214.5 (-110) is the lean, ever so slightly.

The Blazers have scored 99 or fewer points in 3 consecutive outings, cashing the Under in 2 of those contests. Portland’s D has held opponents to 102 or fewer points in 2 of the past 3, as well.

Detroit has hit the Over in the past 2 contests, but the defense has clamped down on the opposition, holding teams to 103 or fewer points in 3 of 4 games overall.

Detroit Pistons at Oklahoma City Thunder odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Detroit Pistons at Oklahoma City Thunder odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Pistons (2-1) and Oklahoma City Thunder (2-1) meet Monday at Paycom Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Pistons vs. Thunder odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; teams split 1-1 last season

The Pistons surprised the Chicago Bulls at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday, winning 118-102 as a 2.5-point underdog. The Pistons have won 2 straight outright, while going 3-0 against the spread (ATS), all as an underdog. The Over (213) on Saturday snapped a modest 2-game Under run to open.

The Thunder saw a 2-game win streak snapped 128-95 in their home opener against the defending champion Denver Nuggets. The Under has cashed in 2 in a row for OKC after an Over in the opener.

Pistons at Thunder picks and predictions

Prediction

Thunder 114, Pistons 110

Moneyline

The Thunder (-225) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return, and that’s quite pricey after Oklahoma City was just thumped by 33 points last time out.

The Pistons (+180) are a bit tempting for a chance to nearly double up, as they have split 2 road games to date.

Still, the best option is to AVOID.

Against the spread

The PISTONS +5.5 (-110) are a decent play catching nearly 3 buckets. Detroit has cashed as an underdog in all 3 games to date.

The Thunder -5.5 (-110) hasn’t been favored this season, and again, they’re coming off a blowout loss last time out.

Over/Under

UNDER 226.5 (-110) is worth playing, but go with a half-unit play at most.

The Under has hit in the past 2 games for the Thunder, averaging just 101.5 PPG during the span. OKC did allow 128 points last time out, however, so be careful.

The Pistons have cashed the Under in 2 of 3 games to date, with both instances coming on the road.

Chicago Bulls at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Chicago Bulls at Detroit Pistons odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Chicago Bulls (1-1) face a division opponent in the Detroit Pistons (1-1) Saturday. Tipoff from Little Caesars Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Bulls vs. Pistons odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Bulls won 4-0 last season.

Chicago picked up a 104-103 OT win vs. the Toronto Raptors Friday thanks to a game-winning 3 from G Alex Caruso. The Bulls failed to cover as a 2-point favorite. G/F DeMar DeRozan showed out for the Bulls in the win, scoring 33 points on 11-for-22 shooting from the field and 10-for-14 from the free throw line.

Detroit came away with a 111-99 win vs. the Charlotte Hornets Friday, covering as a 4.5-point underdog. The Pistons held Charlotte to 37.5% shooting from the field and 25% shooting from beyond the arc while also out rebounding the Hornets 52-41. Detroit saw 6 players finish with 12 or more points in the win.

Bulls at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Bulls 103, Pistons 99

Moneyline

LEAN BULLS (-120).

Detroit does pose a solid threat to the Bulls in this matchup, but it would be tough for me to advise betting on the Pistons here unless LaVine is ruled out. Chicago has beaten Detroit in all of the last 10 meetings and has covered the spread in 8 of those meetings.

Against the spread

LEAN BULLS -1.5 (-110).

The Pistons are a risky bet here unless you are fully confident that they will either win, or that this will finish as a 1-point game. If this game comes down to a buzzer-beater type scenario, that actually would likely favor the Bulls as they have more proven clutch time performers than Detroit. Chicago is the safest play here, but the moneyline and O/U are safer lines to bet.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 215.5 (-110).

The total has dropped 3 points with LaVine’s health in question Saturday morning. Both of Detroit’s 2 games so start the season have hit the Under, and Chicago’s last matchup vs. Toronto also hit the Under. Both of these teams struggle to find a consistent way to score the ball, and both struggle shooting the 3 ball. Also, 8 of the last 10 meetings between these squads have hit the Under.

The Charlotte Hornets (1-0) welcome the Detroit Pistons (0-1) to the Spectrum Center Friday. Tip is set for 7 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Pistons vs. Hornets odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; teams split 4 games last season

The Hornets beat the Atlanta Hawks 116-110 Wednesday, covering as a 4-point home underdog. Charlotte F PJ Washington led the way with 25 points on 12-of-18 shooting. F Brandon Miller, the No. 2 overall pick, scored 13 points.

The Pistons lost on the road to the Miami Heat 103-102 Wednesday, covering as a 9.5-point underdog. Detroit G Cade Cunningham poured in 30 points. and shot 13-for-27 from the field. Top pick F Ausar Thompson ended with 7 turnovers and scored just 4 points. The Pistons were the 4th-worst covering team last season, ending 34-44-4 against the spread (ATS).

Pistons at Hornets picks and predictions

Prediction

Hornets 115, Pistons 110

Moneyline

PASS.

The Hornets have far more consistent talent and should cover at home here. However, at -165, pass on the home favorite on the moneyline.

Against the spread

BET HORNETS -3.5 (-115).

The Hornets are 1-0 at home and won as an underdog. In its opener, Charlotte was more explosive on both ends, holding Atlanta to just 17% from deep.

Charlotte got 13 points and 15 rebounds from 2nd-year C Mark Williams. His ascension should help aid the Hornets’ interior defense and should provide ample support against a Detroit team that likes playing a big starting lineup.

The Pistons shot just 34% from deep and 60% from the free-throw line against the Heat, and they could again struggle on the road with a young, inexperienced team. The Pistons were 17-21-3 ATS as a road underdog last season.

The Hornets were more impressive and covered at home to open the season. Expect them to repeat that so take HORNETS -3.5 (-115).

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 225.5 (-110).

Neither team was overly impressive from deep or from the charity stripe Wednesday. The Hornets shot 30% from deep and 73% from the line on 37 and 26 attempts respectively.

Neither team can light it up from deep, and both teams went Under in their 1st game. Expect an inefficient game with plenty of lengthy, interior presence around the rim. Take UNDER 225.5 (-110).

Detroit Pistons at Miami Heat odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Detroit Pistons at Miami Heat odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Pistons and Miami Heat meet Wednesday in each team’s season opener. Tip-off from the Kaseya Center is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Pistons vs. Heat odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Heat won 2-1 last season

Detroit had a relatively quiet offseason as its biggest moves included trading for G/F Joe Harris from the Brooklyn Nets and trading for G Monte Morris from the Washington Wizards. Detroit also added F Ausar Thompson as the 5th overall pick in the 2023 draft.

Miami, to the displeasure of many Heat fans, also had an uneventful offseason after losing in the NBA Finals to the Denver Nuggets. Miami, after missing out on acquiring G Damian Lillard, decided to focus on acquiring depth during the offseason.

Miami signed F/C Thomas Bryant and G Josh Richardson to 2-year deals in the offseason. The Heat also lost 2 solid role-players from their 2023 Finals run in G Gabe Vincent (to the Los Angeles Lakers) and G/F Max Strus (to the Cleveland Cavaliers).

Pistons at Heat picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 108, Pistons 102

Moneyline

PASS.

I am not convinced on Miami being such a heavy favorite, and Detroit is not worth betting on unless you’re absolutely certain of the Pistons winning as +333 underdogs.

Against the spread

BET PISTONS +8.5 (-105).

Detroit will be returning G Cade Cunningham, who missed the majority of last season after suffering a stress-fracture in his leg, and his return will bring life to this Detroit unit. I have questions about the guard play for Miami, especially on the defensive side of the ball, and I believe exploiting that weakness will be Detroit’s key to keeping this game close.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 219.5 (-110).

Miami has always been a team that prides itself on defense, and that will be no different this season. Miami ranked 2nd in opponent points per game last season, allowing 109.8, and this year should be more of the same. Both of these teams were around the middle of the pack in 3-point makes as a team last year, and that style of play will help this game hit the Under. 2 of last year’s 3 meetings between these squads hit on the Under.

Detroit Pistons at Chicago Bulls odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Detroit Pistons at Chicago Bulls odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Pistons (17-64) battle the Chicago Bulls (39-42) Sunday. Tip from the United Center is set for 1 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Pistons vs. Bulls odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Pistons are 0-3 straight up against the Bulls this season and 1-2 against the spread (ATS). The total is 2-1 O/U in the 3 matchups so far this season.

In the Pistons’ last 13 games, they have beaten Indiana twice and lost every other matchup. They are 5-7-1 ATS over that span. They are 34-43-4 ATS on the season. The Over has hit in 5 straight games for the Pistons.

The Bulls are locked into a play-in game spot in the Eastern Conference. They are 3-2 straight up and ATS in their last 5 games and are 39-39-3 ATS on the season.

Pistons at Bulls picks and predictions

Prediction

Bulls 117, Pistons 109

Moneyline

AVOID.

The Pistons haven’t had their top-2 scoring options for the last few weeks and have struggled, losing 11 of their last 12. Detroit doesn’t seem to be competitive in most games either. Pass on their moneyline value.

Similarly, the Bulls are too expensive at (-250) to play here.

Against the spread

LEAN BULLS -5.5 (-115).

The Bulls are 3-2 ATS in their last 5 games and 3-3 ATS over their last 6 home games. Chicago is 20-19-1 ATS at home this season while Detroit is 17-30-2, the league’s 9th-worst covering rate in that situation.

The Pistons are 4-7-1 ATS in their last 12. They have failed to score more than 108 in 3 of their last 4 games, so their offense has struggled without many key weapons.

Ultimately, considering the situation each team is in and the health factors, take BULLS -5.5 (-115).

Over/Under

Not available when published, but if the line is set at 220.5, bet the Over.

The Pistons have gone Over in 5 straight games and in 6 of their last 7. The Bulls have gone Over in 2 of their last 4 and are 6-2-1 O/U in their last 9 games. Chicago has scored at least 115 in 3 of their last 5 games as well.

The Pistons rank 21st in defensive rating since the All-Star break. The Bulls rank 9th in true shooting percentage (60%) since the All-Star break as well. Scoring should be easy for the home side.

Detroit Pistons at Indiana Pacers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Detroit Pistons at Indiana Pacers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Pistons (16-64) visit the Indiana Pacers (34-46) on Friday. Tip from Gainbridge Fieldhouse is set for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Pistons vs. Pacers odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Detroit failed to cover as an 11.5-point underdog in a 123-108 loss to the Brooklyn Nets Wednesday. It has now lost 11 games in a row. The Pistons are 3-6-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 games, falling to 33-43-4 ATS on the season.

Indiana fell 138-129 to the New York Knicks Wednesday, failing to cover as a 5-point underdog. It has now lost back-to-back games and has dropped 8 of its last 10. The Pacers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 outings and 41-39 ATS this season.

This will be the 4th matchup between Indiana and Detroit this season. Indiana holds a 2-1 series advantage, winning 124-115 as a 1.5-point underdog on Oct. 22 and 121-115 as a 3.5-point underdog on March 11. The Pistons then won 117-97 as 4-point home underdogs on March 13. The Over cashed in both Indiana wins and the Under connected in the Detroit victory.

Pistons at Pacers picks and predictions

Prediction

Pacers 125, Pistons 115

Moneyline

PASS.

The moneyline does not present a profitable play on the Pacers (-275) in this matchup, but I think they get the win.

Against the spread

LEAN PACERS -6.5 (-115).

The Pacers’ offense ranks 10th in the NBA in points per game (116) while the Pistons’ defense ranks just 27th in opponent points per game (118.8). Indiana is 22-18 ATS at home this season and Detroit is 16-20-3 ATS on the road.

The Pistons are just 4-12-1 ATS this season as 5-7-point underdogs and 3-6-1 ATS in their last 10 games including 1-3-1 ATS on the road in that span.

While the end of the season can typically result in obscure outcomes due to different players being shutdown, the Pacers still have the capability to defeat a Detroit team that is just 7-32 on the road this season.

LEAN PACERS -6.5 (-115).

Over/Under

BET OVER 230.5 (-105).

The Over is 4-0 in the Pistons’ last 4 games and 2-0 in their last 2 road games. The Over is 3-3 in the Pacers’ last 6 games but at this closing line, it would be 5-1. It is 3-2 in its last 5 home games as well.

Both teams have positive O/U records and the Over is 8-1 in their last 9 meetings between them in Indiana.

The Pacers rank 5th in the NBA in pace (101.52) while the Pistons rank 13th (99.83). Expect a lot of possessions and quick basketball to put the Over in a prime position to hit.

The Pistons have lost 8 in a row, the last a 121-115 loss Friday to the Houston Rockets, pushing as a 6-point road underdog. Detroit is 2-0-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last 3 games after going 0-5 ATS in the 5 previous games. It is 32-41-4 ATS on the season.

Pistons at Magic picks and predictions

Prediction

Magic 116, Pistons 105

Moneyline

PASS.

The Pistons have lost 8 in a row and 12 in a row on the road. At (+300), they have no value to pull off the upset.

Against the spread

LEAN MAGIC -8.5 (-115).

The Magic have been a covering machine as of late. They rank 18th in net rating since the All-Star break; whereas the Pistons sit 27th and are on the road here. Orlando has covered 8 in a row and 4 in a row at home.

It has been surging, and it is among the healthy and competing sides outside of playoff position. Detroit will be without its top-2 scorers and have struggled to consistently cover.

The Pistons are 2-3 ATS in their last 5 road games. Put it all together and take the MAGIC -8.5 (-115).

Over/Under

BET UNDER 224.5 (-110).

The Pistons have gone Under in 7 of their last 9 games. The issue has been their offense, scoring 107 or fewer in 8 of their last 9 games. They rank 29th in true shooting percentage (54.6%) since the All-Star break.

The Magic have gone Under in 6 of their last 7 games. They have also been inconsistent offensively, scoring 111 or fewer in 3 of their last 6. Orlando also sits 3rd in defensive rebounding rate since the break, which should limit the Pistons’ aggression on the glass.

Ultimately, take the UNDER 224.5 (-110).
