Season series: Cleveland leads 3-0

Cleveland suffered a 132-123 double OT loss vs. the Chicago Bulls Wednesday, failing to cover as a 5.5-point road favorite. The Cavaliers were outrebounded by an astounding 74-39 in the loss. Cleveland is 2-1 in its last 3 games and it has failed to covered the spread in 7 consecutive outings.

Detroit picked up a 105-95 win over the Chicago Bulls Tuesday while covering as a 10-point road underdog. Detroit held the Bulls to only 39.8% shooting from the field and 6.9% shooting from deep in the loss. Tuesday’s win ended a 6-game losing streak for the Pistons.

Cavaliers at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Cavaliers 112, Pistons 109

Moneyline

PASS.

Cleveland is a dominant 7-3 in its last 10 meetings with Detroit, and the Cavaliers are the much better team, but they are not worth the risk of betting on as such heavy (-370) favorites. Bet on the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

 BET PISTONS +9 (-110).

Detroit has covered the spread in each of its last 3 games and is 6-3 ATS in its last 9 outings. The Pistons have also covered the spread in 3 consecutive games vs. Cleveland. Detroit is 6-3-1 ATS in its last 10 matchups vs. Cleveland and is 30-28 ATS this season while the Cavs are 28-30.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 222.5 (-110).

The Under has hit in 7 consecutive games for Detroit and is 8-2 in its last 10. For Cleveland, the Under is 6-4 in its last 10 outings and is 31-26-1 on the season. The Under has also hit in 6 of the last 7 Cleveland-Detroit matchups.

Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Cleveland Cavaliers (12-7) visit the Little Caesars Arena Sunday to take on the Detroit Pistons (5-16). Tip is set for 6 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Cavaliers vs. Pistons odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Cavaliers lost 117-102 to the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday, failing to cover as 4-point road underdogs. The Cavaliers are 11-7-1 against the spread (ATS) this season and have covered 3 of their last 4.

The addition of star G Donovan Mitchell has been impactful for Cleveland. He is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 30 points per game and shooting 50.1% from the field.

Detroit lost 108-102 Friday in Phoenix, but covered as 12-point road underdogs against the Suns. The Pistons are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 despite going just 2-5 straight up in that stint.

Detroit is led by G Bojan Bogdanovic, who is averaging 20.6 points per game. Former No. 1 overall pick G Cade Cunningham is averaging 19.9.

Cavaliers at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Cavaliers 114, Pistons 109

Moneyline

PASS.

The Cavaliers are heavy favorites for a reason, but at (-280), there’s no value in backing them. Similarly, the Pistons without their top playmaker is not worth any ML wager.

Against the spread

BET PISTONS +7.5 (-115).

The Pistons have capable scoring options outside of Cunningham. Former top-3 pick C Marvin Bagley III has transitioned into their starting lineup and should do well if Allen is limited.

Simply put, the Pistons have been covering against good teams, and with the Cavaliers down key big men, there’s no reason to think that will stop anytime soon.

Detroit is also 3-5 at home, which for a 5-16 team, shows some success on its home court. Cleveland is 4-6 straight up on the road and have failed to cover 5 straight road games.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 218.5 (-110).

The Cavaliers are 10-9 O/U this season while the Pistons are 12-8-1 O/U.

Detroit has gone over in 3 of its last 5. Detroit allows 117.4 points per game, and Cleveland does have two lethal playmaking guards in Mitchell and G Darius Garland.

While still among the best defenses in the NBA, Cleveland has relapsed a bit since last season and allowed 108.1 per game. With strong efficiencies offensively, the Cavaliers should be able to score with ease on a weak Detroit defense.

Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Pistons (2-7) welcome the Cleveland Cavaliers (6-1) to Little Caesars Arena Friday. Tip is set for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Cavaliers vs. Pistons odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Cavaliers are coming into this game with the 2nd-best record in the NBA and 1 of just 3 teams with 1 or zero losses on the season.

Cleveland has been led by star G Donovan Mitchell. who is averaging 31.1 points and 7.1 assists per game his season. The return of G Darius Garland last game helped the Cavs top Boston in overtime.

Detroit is tied for the worst record in the Eastern Conference. They have just 2 wins this season, but both of those were at home.

Detroit is led by F Bojan Bogdanovic, who is averaging 21.8 points per game, and former No. 1 overall pick G Cade Cunningham, who is averaging 21.7 PPG.

Cavaliers at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Cavaliers 114, Pistons 110

Moneyline

PASS.

The Pistons could be a strong lean here, but I don’t think +215 is good enough value to take, especially considering both the questionable stars seem likely to take the court for Cleveland.

Against the spread

BET PISTONS +6.5 (-120).

The Cavaliers have their best 2 offensive players on the injury report, and even if they play, a knee and ankle injury do not heal overnight. They could see reduced minutes, and that could be the difference in the Pistons covering.

Detroit has the 2nd-worst defensive rating in the NBA, but it has played much better at home and has the 11th-best offensive rebounding rate which should help produce extra opportunities. It also ranks 13th in turnover rate which is a huge advantage. The Pistons are a 3-1 ATS as the home team.

The Pistons shoot better at home and play better at home. Against a surging Cavs team that should be darlings for the public, I would back PISTONS +6.5 (-120).

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 222.5 (-110).

The Cavaliers had the 5th-best defensive rating in the NBA last season and had the 3rd-best under-covering rate. They are 5-2 O/U this season. The addition of Mitchell has changed everything about this team offensively.

Mitchell isn’t a great defender, so they take a step backward in that department. The Cavaliers have the 4th-worst turnover rate, and the Pistons, with young guns like Cunningham and G Jaden Ivey, will look to push the pace.

Detroit ranks 13th in pace, and both teams sit in the top half of the league in offensive rebounding. Turnovers should lead to a quick pace and points, and both teams are good at rebounding. The Pistons are also 4-0 O/U at home.

Combine it all, and I’ll back the Over 222.5 (-110).

Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Cleveland Cavaliers (35-23) visit Little Caesars Arena Thursday to take on the Detroit Pistons (13-45). Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Cavaliers vs. Pistons odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Coming off a thrilling All-Star Weekend in their home city, the Cavaliers will take to the road for a short one-game trip before returning home to take on Washington Saturday.

Cleveland is 34-22-2 against the spread (ATS) and has a 17-14 straight up (SU) road record. The Cavs feature the best defense in the league, yielding just 102.5 points per game (PPG).

As for Detroit, scoring has been a major problem. The Pistons’ 102.6 PPG ranks 29th. They are an ugly 8-20 SU at home, just 3-7 ATS over their last 10 overall games and 27-31 ATS on the season. Thursday’s tilt is the first of a two-game homestand for Detroit.

Cavaliers at Pistons odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Cleveland 103, Detroit 99

Money line

PASS.

Detroit (+200) is the only playable side given Cleveland will be without its two best shot creators in Garland and LeVert. Nonetheless, I’d still look toward the points for value in this one.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

BET PISTONS +6.5 (-120).

Despite Cleveland being immensely better ATS on the season, both teams have a 50% cover rate in their current situation. Detroit is 12-12 ATS as a home underdog, while Cleveland is 5-5-1 as a road favorite.

The real difference here is the absence of Garland. The Cavs have been without their star guard for 11 games this season, posting a 6-5 record in those matches.

However, they’ve won just 1 of them by more than 7 points. That sole dominant performance was against a Pacers team down PG Malcolm Brogdon, C Myles Turner and LeVert, who was recently traded to the Cavs.

Cleveland’s defense should still propel it to victory, but the loss of playmaking is going to play a huge factor.

Over/Under

LEAN to the UNDER 208.5 (-115).

While the Cavaliers will be without LeVert and Garland, the twin towers of C Evan Mobley and C Jarrett Allen will still be just as dominant.

This the third head-to-head meeting of the season between the Central Division rivals. They split their first two games, including covering the spread, with the O/U also 1-1.

Cleveland held Detroit to 78 points in a 20-point home win (Nov. 12), but allowed 115 in a 10-point loss at Little Caesars (Jan. 30). Cleveland scored 98 and 105 points in those games, respectively.

With Cleveland the second-worst Over team in the NBA at 22-36 O/U (only Dallas is worse), expect its defense to reign supreme and help the Cavaliers come out on top.

Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Cleveland Cavaliers (30-19) travel to Little Caesars Arena Sunday to take on the Detroit Pistons (11-37). Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Cavaliers vs. Pistons odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Cavaliers are coming into this game well-rested following a 16-point victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on January 26. They were 4-point underdogs. Covering has been typical for Cleveland this season as its 30-17-2 against the spread (ATS).

The Cavs are just 4-3-1 ATS as a road favorite though. They’ve been so dominant behind their top-three defense, which currently allows the second-fewest points per game in the league.

As for the Pistons, they’re coming into this battle off a 16-point road loss to the Orlando Magic. However, they’ve covered four of their last five and are 24-24 ATS on the season.

The Pistons have struggled for the better part of the year because of their inefficiency. They rank second-to-last in true shooting percentage.

Cavaliers at Pistons odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Cavaliers 108, Pistons 95

Money line

PASS on the money line.

The Pistons are much better at home, 7-15 straight up. So, even though I like this position for Cleveland, betting them at -380 doesn’t make much sense. Similarly, I don’t find value in Detroit +290.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the CAVALIERS -7.5 (-115).

Cleveland has the second-best defense in the NBA, holding two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks to 99 points. Meanwhile, the Pistons gave up 119 to the Magic.

The Cavs are going to make it tough for the Pistons to score, and considering how inefficient they’ve been this season, I wouldn’t bet on their ability to consistently break down a top-tier defense.

Similarly, the Cavs are one of the best teams in the league ATS. They’re 15-8-2 ATS on the road this season. Cleveland also ranks 11th in points in the paint, whereas the Pistons rank 23rd in opponents’ points in the paint.

The size and skill advantage go to Cleveland. The Cavs should be able to run away with this one.

Over/Under

BET on the UNDER 207.5 (-108).

As noted, the Cavaliers have the second-best defense in the league. They also rank in the top ten in opponents’ field goal and three-point field goal percentages.

At the same time, Cleveland ranks 24th in pace. Couple that with the fact that their O/U is 18-31 this season, and points should be scarce. The Cavs Under has hit in four of their last five. Detroit’s O/U is 8-10 as home underdogs.

The Pistons are 5-5 O/U over the past 10 as well.

Cavaliers at Pistons: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Cavaliers 111, Pistons 109

Money line (ML)

The CAVALIERS (+110) opened with an impressive home win over the Charlotte Hornets. Now they look to duplicate that success with a quick jump over Lake Erie for their first road game of the season. The Pistons (-135) were dumped by 10 in the opener Wednesday in Minnesota. They actually led 85-80 heading into the fourth quarter but were outscored 31-16. We’ll see if they have a problem finishing in this one, too.

Against the spread (ATS)

The CAVALIERS +2.5 (-115) are worth a play in their first road game of the season. Cleveland is 6-2 ATS in its past eight road games dating back to last season, and they’re 4-1 ATS in the previous five matchups with the Pistons. C Andre Drummond returns to his old stomping grounds, too, trying to get his new team to 2-0 on the young season. The big opened with his usual double-double, going for 14 points and 14 rebounds in just over 27 minutes.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 215.5 (-110) is a strong play. The Cavs cruised to an Over result in their 121-114 win over the Hornets, while the Pistons hit the Under in their opening game road loss. More importantly, look to the series trends, which each point to the Over. The Over is 4-1 in the past five meetings at LCA, and 7-0 in the previous seven meetings overall in this series.
