Detroit Lions Podcast: Time for the Lions to shine

Detroit Lions Podcast: Time for the Lions to shine in New Orleans after a bad couple of games at home

The latest episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast is out and ready for viewing or streaming. This week’s episode was recorded on Thursday night live on the DLP YouTube channel.

This week’s episode wraps up the Thanksgiving loss to the Packers. We break down a very bad game for a very large portion of the Lions roster, including some players who very rarely have bad days. What can the coaching staff do to help snap Detroit out of the recent funk?

That leads to a deeper dive into the coaches, specifically defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. We discuss how much blame Glenn deserves and how much goes on the players for the struggles of late.

Detroit still maintains firm control of the NFC North, something that gets a little lost in the discussions about the Lions lately. The playoff scenarios for clinching and possible opponents get their due here.

Finally, it’s on to New Orleans and the Week 13 matchup with the Saints.

The latest episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast is now available to watch or stream. This week’s episode, recorded on Tuesday evening, puts the Week 11 win over the Bears to bed.

The theme of resilience, from QB Jared Goff to a defense that adapted well after struggling early, is a good sign for Detroit. The win and the 8-2 record set up a lot of playoff potential and discussion.

Then it’s onto the Packers and Thanksgiving. With the expected absence of Jonah Jackson at left guard, it opens up another opportunity to see if rookie Colby Sorsdal can take over the bigger role in 2024.

Predictions on the Packers game and a quick look around the NFC postseason picture are in there, too.

Detroit Lions Podcast: Week 10 recap and Week 11 preview

Detroit Lions Podcast: Week 10 recap and Week 11 preview with Lions Wire’s Jeff Risdon flying solo on the show

This week’s episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast offers a different style. Instead of being a two-man live show, this one wound up being a solo show due to logistical challenges.

The show was recorded late Tuesday and celebrates the Lions’ ability to win a shootout game against a very good Chargers offense. There is a focus on the excellence of the Detroit offensive line and the creative playcalling by Ben Johnson that the OL helps facilitate.

Of course, the 38 points the defense gave up need to be addressed too. What’s going on with Aidan Hutchinson, and what kind of help is he getting? Aaron Glenn shoulders a lot of the blame for his defense giving up five straight touchdown drives by the Chargers to end the game, but Glenn’s players did the DC no favors in this one, either.

There is a look ahead to the Week 11 matchup with the Bears, and even a teaser thought on the Packers in Week 12. The next two games are a chance for the Lions to improve to 9-2, and it sure shapes up nicely to make that happen.

The absurd Dan Campbell-to-Texas A&M speculation, a different Lions coach who makes a more realistic choice for that job, and Campbell’s diaper-wearing idea all get hit upon as well.

Detroit Lions Podcast: Our interview with John Cominsky

Detroit Lions Podcast interview with Lions DL John Cominsky and also a quick preview of the Week 10 matchup with the Chargers

What better way to exit the bye week than with a chat with one of the core players of the Detroit Lions’ defensive upswing!

Lions defensive lineman John Cominsky joined us on the Detroit Lions Podcast after Thursday’s practice session. He graciously talked about his path to Detroit and how special the situation is with the Lions and this regime, among other things.

Cominsky gave a very good answer and perspective on “setting my frame smaller” and focusing on the little details of being successful instead of worrying about the bigger picture. It kicks in around the 16-minute mark of the video and it’s a great look at why Cominsky has clicked into being an important piece of the Lions defense after washing out in Atlanta.

He also describes what it’s like to work with a legend like Chris Spielman, who is from the same Canton (OH) area and remains a prominent hero in both Lions lore and Northeast Ohio. What does grit mean to “The Commish”?

Cominsky dishes a little on what it’s like to play between young studs Aidan Hutchinson and Alim McNeill, and what practices are like under Dan Campbell.

After Cominsky’s time is done, we get into a preview of Sunday’s matchup in Los Angeles with the Chargers and why this game won’t be an easy win for the Lions.

Video: Detroit Lions Podcast on the Lions stumbling upward in Week 7 and looking forward at the Raiders matchup

The latest episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast is now available for viewing or download. In this week’s show, recorded live on YouTube on Wednesday night, the focus is on how the Lions can move on from the ugly loss in Baltimore and take out some frustration on the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night.

There were a lot of Lions to blame for the team’s poor showing in Week 7, Which ones were one-off bad days and which were more troubling for potential long-term issues? Also, the Lions somehow moved upward in the NFC standings despite the blowout loss.

It’s also coming up quickly on the NFL trade deadline. There’s a lengthy discussion about what the Lions might do, why they probably won’t do other things, and what the impact of any moves would have beyond the season.
