PFL’s Derek Anderson shares graphic injury photo after alleged hit-and-run, out of Cedric Doumbe fight

One moment, Derek Anderson is set to fight Cedric Doumbe. The next, he’s the victim of an alleged hit-and-run.

One moment, [autotag]Derek Anderson[/autotag] is set to fight Cedric Doumbe. The next, he’s the victim of an alleged hit-and-run.

Hours after the Doumbe fight booking was officially announced for Bellator Champions Series: Paris, Anderson on Tuesday posted a graphic image of a foot injury on Instagram, indicating he was involved in a hit-and-run. The photo of Anderson’s mangled foot appears to have been taken on the side of the road shortly after the alleged incident.

With BCS: Paris less than a month away May 17, Anderson (17-4-1) said he won’t be able to compete. Doumbe vs. Anderson was slated to co-headline the event at Accor Arena.

It’s unclear if Doumbe (5-1) will remain on the card to fight a replacement opponent.

News of the lost Doumbe-Anderson co-headliner comes on the heels of BCS: Paris losing its original main event after lightweight champion [autotag]Usman Nurmagomedov[/autotag]’s title defense against [autotag]Alexander Shabliy[/autotag] was scrapped due to an injury to Nurmagomedov. The fight is expected to be rebooked in the near future.

With the change, the Bellator Champions Series: Paris lineup includes:

MAIN CARD:

  • Patchy Mix vs. Magomed Magomedov – for bantamweight title
  • Cedric Doumbe vs. TBA
  • Gregory Babene vs. Costello van Steenis
  • Jonas Bilharinho vs. Yves Landu
  • Archie Colgan vs. Thibault Gouti

PRELIMINARY CARD:

  • Louis Sutherland vs. Slim Trabelsi
  • Mansour Barnaoui vs. Yusuke Yachi
  • Imamshafi Aliev vs. Mike Shipman
  • Aspen Ladd vs. Katerina Shakalova
  • Asael Adjoudj vs. Bruno Fontes

Bellator’s Cedric Doumbe returns vs. Derek Anderson in Paris, but Nurmagomedov-Shabliy title fight scrapped

Cedric Doumbe will get to electrify his home fans once again.

[autotag]Cedric Doumbe[/autotag] will get to electrify his home fans once again.

Doumbe (5-1) meets [autotag]Derek Anderson[/autotag] (17-4-1) in the Bellator Champions Series: Paris co-headliner, which takes place May 17 at Accor Arena in Paris, the promotion announced Monday.

Lightweight champion [autotag]Usman Nurmagomedov[/autotag]’s title defense against [autotag]Alexander Shabliy[/autotag], the card’s original main event, has been scrapped due to an injury to Nurmagomedov. The fight is expected to be rebooked in the near future.

Doumbe has signed a multi-year contract extension with PFL. After scoring a 9-second knockout of Jordan Zebo in his promotional debut, the French superstar suffered an odd TKO loss to Baysangur Chamsoudinov in the 2024 PFL Europe 1 headliner in March.

After splitting the first two rounds with Chamsoudinov, Doumbe looked at referee Marc Goddard and pointed to his left toe twice in the span of 10 seconds, signaling that he’s hurt. That prompted Goddard to wave the fight off which baffled a frustrated Doumbe, who just wanted a splint removed from his toe. John McCarthy explained that you cannot call a timeout in the middle of the fight.

Anderson has won three out of his past four. The 34-year-old Bellator veteran hasn’t competed since shattering his nose in a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Michael Page in May 2021.

With the addition, the Bellator Champions Series: Paris lineup includes:

MAIN CARD:

  • Patchy Mix vs. Magomed Magomedov – for bantamweight title
  • Derek Anderson vs. Cedric Doumbe
  • Gregory Babene vs. Costello van Steenis
  • Jonas Bilharinho vs. Yves Landu
  • Archie Colgan vs. Thibault Gouti

PRELIMINARY CARD:

  • Louis Sutherland vs. Slim Trabelsi
  • Mansour Barnaoui vs. Yusuke Yachi
  • Imamshafi Aliev vs. Mike Shipman
  • Aspen Ladd vs. Katerina Shakalova
  • Asael Adjoudj vs. Bruno Fontes

Cat Zingano to meet Pam Sorenson at Bellator 276; Cris Cyborg says Zingano turned down title fight

Cat Zingano could’ve had a title fight, but she’ll instead meet Pam Sorenson on the Bellator 276 prelims.

Bellator’s plan was to have Cat Zingano challenge women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg for the title, but that’s not happening.

Zingano instead will face Pam Sorenson on March 12 at Bellator 276, which takes place at The Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo., just outside of St. Louis. MMA Fighting first reported the booking, which a promotion official later confirmed to MMA Junkie on Tuesday.

Zingano, 39, has gone 2-0 so far since signing with Bellator in October 2019. After a unanimous decision win over Gabrielle Holloway in her promotional debut, Zingano submitted Olivia Parker by first-round armbar in April 2021.

The victory seemingly set up a title-fight showdown with Cyborg, who indicated on Twitter that Zingano declined the opportunity.

“She turned down a World Title Fight to compete on the prelims?!” Cyborg tweeted and later deleted (screenshot below).

It’s unclear if that’s exactly how things turned out, but Bellator president Scott Coker said on Jan. 29 that the promotion wanted to boon Cyborg vs. Zingano “as soon as possible.” He seemed to indicate that the hold-up was on Zingano’s end.

“I think timing is going to be an issue on that fight, when Cat is ready to fight her,” Coker said after Bellator 273. “We would like that fight to happen as soon as possible.”

“That is our plan, but we have to have both fighters agree to that plan. We’re talking to the managers, Cat’s manager, find out when she’ll be ready to, No. 1, fight, and will she be willing to fight Cyborg?”

That won’t be the case, and Zingano (11-4 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) will instead fight 35-year-old Soreno (9-4 MMA, 1-1 BMMA), who has split her first two Bellator outings. She won a split decision over Roberta Samad in August before she lost a unanimous decision to Arlene Blencowe this past November at Bellator 271.

While Zingano vs. Sorenson is scheduled for the prelims, a middleweight bout between [autotag]Johnny Eblen[/autotag] (10-0 MMA, 6-0 BMMA) and [autotag]John Salter[/autotag] (8-2 MMA, 18-5 BMMA) is the most recent addition to the main card. Eblen is considered one of the fastest-rising fighters in the division, while Salter looks to bounce back from a title shot loss against Gegard Mousasi.

Other additions to the card include a lightweight battle between [autotag]Derek Anderson[/autotag] (17-4 MMA, 8-4 BMMA) and [autotag]Goiti Yamauchi[/autotag] (26-5 MMA, 12-4 BMMA).

Notable prospects middleweight [autotag]Romero Cotton[/autotag] (5-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA), women’s flyweight [autotag]Diana Avsaragova[/autotag] (4-0 MMA, 2-0 BMMA), featherweight [autotag]Cody Law[/autotag] (5-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA), and welterweight [autotag]Roman Faraldo[/autotag] (6-0 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) have also been matched up with non-rostered opponents.

The lineup for Bellator 276 currently includes:

MAIN CARD (Showtime, 9 p.m. ET)

  • Adam Borics vs. Mads Burnell
  • Phil Davis vs. Julius Anglickas
  • Johnny Eblen vs. John Salter
  • Jay Jay Wilson vs. Gadzhi Rabadanov

PRELIMINARY CARD (MMA Junkie, 6 p.m. ET )

  • Pam Sorenson vs. Cat Zingano
  • Jose Augusto vs. Alex Polizzi
  • Derek Anderson vs. Goiti Yamauchi
  • Romero Cotton vs. Lance Wright
  • Diana Avsaragova vs. Ashley Deen
  • Cody Law vs. Johnny Soto
  • Roman Faraldo vs. Kelvin Rayford
  • Jordan Howard vs. Trevor Ward
  • Dan Busch vs. Josh Augustine

Derek Anderson suspended 120 days for falsifying Bellator 258 pre-fight medicals

Derek Anderson will be out of action for a while, but it won’t be just for the nasty broken nose he suffered at Bellator 258.

[autotag]Derek Anderson[/autotag] will be out of action for a while, but not solely because of the nasty broken nose he suffered in a loss to Michael “Venom” Page at Bellator 258 on Friday.

On Monday, Mohegan Sun Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation head Mike Mazzulli told MMA Junkie that Anderson (17-4 MMA, 8-4 BMMA) will be suspended 120 days for falsifying his pre-fight medical forms.

The suspension comes two days after Anderson posted on Instagram that during his fight camp, he went to the hospital four times for kidney failure According to Mazzulli, Anderson’s post is an admittance that he suffered kidney issues during his training camp – something he did not denote on his pre-fight medical forms.

“When you falsify a pre-fight medical form when they ask you about your health, that’s a concern of mine,” Mazzulli told MMA Junkie. “We’re worried about the fighters’ safety. That’s my biggest problem. I’m not going to take it lightly. It’s not OK.”

[lawrence-related id=609576,609581]

Mazzulli also provided MMA Junkie with a blank copy of the Mohegan commission’s pre-fight medical questionnaire, which includes questions such as, “Do you have any medical problems?” and “Do you have any injuries which may affect your ability to fight?”

Anderson, 31, will also need to pass a number of kidney medical tests in order to be reinstated. Such tests include renal MRI, nephrologist consult, renal ultrasound with doppler and blood tests for BUN/creatine, along with a CPK test. All hospital notes regarding the “kidney failure” must be forwarded to the commission. Anderson will also be required to visit a physician for four weeks straight during his next weight cut.

At the time of publication, Anderson had not responded to MMA Junkie’s request for comment.

Bellator 258 took place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card aired on Showtime after prelims on MMA Junkie.

Bellator 258 results: Michael Page smashes Derek Anderson’s nose with slick kick in TKO win

Michael Page gave Derek Anderson issues with his range, then smashed his nose in with a kick to add to his lengthy highlight reel.

[autotag]Michael Page[/autotag] gave [autotag]Derek Anderson[/autotag] issues with his range, then smashed his nose in with a kick to add to his lengthy highlight reel.

Page (19-1 MMA, 15-1 BMMA) hammered Anderson (17-4 MMA, 8-4 BMMA) with a left kick in the first round. When Anderson bounced back up from it, Page put him down again with a right. And though Anderson survived the frame, the doctor waved the 175-pound catchweight bout off between rounds.

With the TKO win, Page set Bellator’s record for most knockouts. Then he called out the only man to ever beat him, welterweight champion Douglas Lima – without saying his name.

Bellator 258 took place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card aired on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie.

Page came out showy, like usual, bouncing with his hands down, then threw a kick. Anderson winged a right hand that was off the mark, but a minute in Page landed a big right that had Anderson covering up. Page quickly mocked him and mimicked the cover-up, then tried to land a jumping knee moments later. A right uppercut from Page was partially blocked, but a left-right combo was good seconds after that. Anderson shot in for a takedown and tied him up along the fence in the clinch for 90 seconds until Page finally broke away.

Page then threw a left kick that drilled Anderson in the nose. He hit the canvas, then bounced back up. He was bleeding immediately and his nose clearly was broken. Seconds later, Page landed a punch that put Anderson on the canvas. Anderson managed to survive the round, but in between frames the cageside doctor called it off with Anderson’s nose smashed inward in a bad way.

“I knew I’d land (the kick). I come in straight lines – I’m a sniper. I come down the middle. I wanted to see if he’d keep going to the same side, so I knew I’d land it. He’s a tough guy. I really respect that. I’m used to tough guys. Tough guys are only good when they can hit their target. Strength means everything with you can land it, but nothing when you can’t.”

Page said he wants Lima, who knocked him out two years ago this month.

“Everybody knows who I want. There’s one redemption fight I’m looking for. He’s constantly got excuses. I’m not interested in calling his name, but everyone knows who he is. We will meet, and the same stuff is going to happen.”

Up-to-the-minute Bellator 258 results include:

  • Michael Page def. Derek Anderson via TKO (doctor’s stoppage) – Round 1, 5:00
  • Raufeon Stots def. Josh Hill via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
  • Lorenz Larkin def. Rafael Carvalho via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
  • Patchy Mix def. Albert Morales via submission (arm-triangle choke) – Round 3, 2:40
  • Omar Hussein vs. Logan Storley* – scrapped due to Hussein failed medicals

  • Johnny Campbell def. Henry Corrales via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 2, 4:12
  • Johnny Soto def. Weber Almeida via unanimous decision (29-27, 29-28, 29-28)

[autotag]Michael Page[/autotag] added another highlight to his reel on Friday at Bellator 258.

Page (19-1 MMA, 15-1 BMMA), better known at “MVP,” did what he does best in styling on an overmatched [autotag]Derek Anderson[/autotag] (17-4 MMA, 8-4 BMMA) en route to a first-round TKO victory by doctor’s stoppage in the 175-pound catchweight bout that took place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

It’s now five straight wins for Page after suffering his sole career loss to Douglas Lima.

Derek Anderson expects respect, title shot after beating Michael Page at Bellator 258

Derek Anderson is on a mission to become Bellator welterweight champion, and Michael Page stands in his way of a title shot.

UNCASVILLE – [autotag]Derek Anderson[/autotag] spoke with MMA Junkie on Wednesday ahead of Bellator 258.

Anderson (17-3 MMA, 8-3 BMMA) discussed his welterweight matchup with Michael Page (18-1 MMA, 14-1 BMMA), which is booked for a third time, and how MVP isn’t on his striking level, how he “absolutely” expects the winner to get a title shot, earning respect, and more.

You can watch Anderson’s full interview in the video above.

Bellator 258 takes place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena and airs on Showtime following prelims streamed on MMA Junkie.

Michael Page vs. Derek Anderson booked for Bellator 258 in May

Perhaps the third time will be the charm for Michael Page and Derek Anderson when they square off at Bellator 258.

Perhaps the third time will be the charm for [autotag]Michael Page[/autotag] and [autotag]Derek Anderson[/autotag].

Page (18-1 MMA, 14-1 BMMA) takes on Anderson (17-3 MMA, 8-3 BMMA) in the main card of Bellator 258, a promotion official confirmed to MMA Junkie on Thursday after an initial report by ESPN. The pair were booked to face each other in 2017 and 2019, but both matchups fell through with each fighter withdrawing once.

Bellator 258 takes place Friday, May 7 at Mohegan Sun Arena. The main card airs on Showtime after prelims on MMA Junkie.

Since suffering his first-career loss to Douglas Lima at Bellator 221, “MVP” has won four straight, most recently a unanimous decision win over Ross Houston at Bellator 248 in October.

Meanwhile, Anderson will also look to build on his winning streak. The 31-year-old is coming off a second-round head kick knockout of Killys Mota at Bellator 251 in November, his third win in a row.

With the addition, the Bellator 258 lineup includes:

MAIN CARD (Showtime, 9 p.m. ET)

  • Champion Juan Archuleta vs. Sergio Pettis – for bantamweight title
  • Anthony Johnson vs. Yoel Romero – light heavyweight grand prix quarterfinal
