Following her win in the night’s opener, an emotional Inaba (1-0 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) spoke to reporters on what the win means to her, being grateful to have a platform, wanting a quick turnaround on the Bellator 254 card with flyweight champion [autotag]Ilima-Lei Macfarlane[/autotag], and much more.

You can watch the full interview in the video above.

Bellator 251 took place Thursday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card aired on CBS Sports Network following prelims on MMA Junkie.

Tyrell Fortune wants Sergei Kharitonov next unless ‘he keeps running’

Following his Bellator 251 win, Tyrell Fortune is eyeing Sergei Kharitonov next, who he claims ducked him.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Following his Bellator 251 win, [autotag]Tyrell Fortune[/autotag] is eyeing someone he claims ducked him.

Fortune (9-1 MMA, 9-1 BMMA) got back in the win column when he defeated Said Sowma by unanimous decision in the co-main event Thursday night.

Speaking at the post-fight news conference, Fortune proceeded to call [autotag]Sergei Kharitonov[/autotag] out, who Fortune says was meant to be his original opponent before the Russian turned him down.

“This fight was supposed to be against Sergei Kharitonov,” Fortune said. “I stepped up and I was originally scheduled to fight Linton (Vassell) in December and we both had accepted that fight, and then Kharitonov’s opponent fell out. And so Bellator asked me, ‘Do you want to step up and fight Sergei?’ I was like, ‘Hell yeah, I want to fight Sergei.’

“I stepped up, and then Sergei was like, ‘I don’t want to fight Tyrell.’ I even hit him up on Instagram and called him a little (expletive) and talked some (expletive) to him and he didn’t respond, so I’ll take Sergei unless he wants to keep running.”

In the first co-main event slot of his career, Fortune was a little critical of his performance. He went the distance for the first time in almost three years.

“Me, personally, I’m disappointed with my performance just because of how I felt, and I felt like I could have done a lot more – and I know my coaches, too,” Fortune said. “So I think I could have done a lot better. I think I utilized my opportunities as much as I can, and I go out there and fight to the best of my abilities whatever slot. So the slot to me doesn’t matter as long as I’m in the cage and I’ve got a job to do.”

With Bellator 251 win, Austin Vanderford’s move to American Top Team pays off immediately

Austin Vanderford is happy with his recent move to American Top Team.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – [autotag]Austin Vanderford[/autotag] is happy with one of his recent career choices.

The Bellator middleweight picked up a unanimous decision win over Vinicius de Jesus on the main card of Bellator 251 on Thursday night. And though it was yet another win for Vanderford (10-0 MMA, 4-0 BMMA), this was his first fight training at the famed American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Fla.

The unbeaten competitor is happy about his move to ATT and thinks a rapid evolution is coming in his MMA skills.

“I have so many good coaches there,” Vanderford said at the post-fight news conference. “Not to forget, my head coach Fabiano Scherner – he wasn’t here with me tonight, but I owe so much to him, too. But man, coach ‘Parrumpa’ (Marcos DeMotta) is the man on the ground and at American Top Team.

“Who do you want? I get Mike Brown every day, Steve Mocco, Conan Silveira, all these great coaches. It’s hard not to improve with guys like that, let alone my training partners, as well.”

Vanderford trained in Oregon prior to his cross-country move. He’s been at ATT for about four months now along with his wife, former UFC fighter and recent BKFC signee Paige VanZant.

The 30-year-old thinks the attitude that comes with training among the best in the world has been a key difference in his game.

“It’s hard not be confident when you walk in through those doors every single day,” Vanderford said. “You’ve got guys like (Muhammed) ‘King Mo’ (Lawal) telling you, ‘You have what it takes to be the best in the world.’ So I think first and foremost, my confidence (has improved). … There’s a lot of good striking coaches there. Coach Anderson (Franca), all these guys, so I think that’s where I’m really going to see an improvement.”

Despite being undefeated in his career and a 4-0 run in Bellator, Vanderford wants to take things slow and not rush to the top of his division. He wants to make sure he’s more than ready to fight for gold.

“I definitely think I have a lot of room to grow and to get to the point where I’m fighting for the title,” Vanderford said. “I want people to know that I deserve it and I’m ready to fight for the title. I’m ready whenever. But we’re just going to keep on the pace and do what Bellator wants me to do. They’ve done such a great job so far. I’ve had opponents fall out and they were quick in getting me someone.”

Corey Anderson wants Vadim Nemkov or Phil Davis after outstanding Bellator debut

There are only two fighters Corey Anderson is interested in fighting after his successful promotional debut at Bellator 251.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – There are only two fighters [autotag]Corey Anderson[/autotag] is interested in fighting after his successful promotional debut at Bellator 251 – and one has the light heavyweight championship.

“(I want) [autotag]Phil Davis[/autotag] and (Vadim) Nemkov – the two people fighting for the belt,” Anderson said at a post-fight news conference. “After they (fight), I want the winner. There’s no reason why I shouldn’t get it. (Ryan) Bader is going to heavyweight to defend his belt. If he was staying at 205, I would fight him. But he’s gone. Lyoto (Machida) just lost, so why would I fight a loser? I want somebody that won.”

Anderson (14-5 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) signed with Bellator in August. Thursday, he wet his feet in the promotion when he elbowed his way to a second-round TKO victory over Melvin Manhoef. He expressed the dominant performance sets him up perfectly for whoever the promotion’s belt-holder is.

While both fighters have expressed interest, Nemkov (12-2 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) vs. Davis (22-5 MMA, 9-2 BMMA) has not been booked. Bellator president Scott Coker committed to the matchup publicly.

If Nemkov and Davis were to face each other inside the cage, it wouldn’t be the first time. Nemkov defeated Davis, a former UFC light heavyweight, by split decision in November 2018. A rematch would could down similarly, predicted Anderson.

“We already saw Nemkov beat him once (and) I think he just got better,” Anderson said. “He’s going to do the same thing, so technically, I want Nemkov. But if Phil wins, I want Phil. I want the belt. I want that belt on my wall. I’ve been dreaming about it. I want a belt over my TV when I wake up every morning. I want to see it (and say), ‘I did that.'”

Before he returns to the Bellator cage, Anderson’s next move doesn’t have anything to do with fighting – but rather a seasonal hobby of his.

“(I’ll fight) once hunting season is over with,” Anderson said. “Let me get back to my tree stand. I’ve got some deer to slay, baby. Feb. 15 is the last day of Jersey’s season. Call me all you want after that.”

Bellator 251 results: Corey Anderson blasts, bloodies Melvin Manhoef in promotional debut

Corey Anderson had a warm welcome in his new home as he was victorious in the main event of Bellator 251.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – [autotag]Corey Anderson[/autotag] entered Bellator on Thursday with a bang — or a series of them, really.

In the Bellator 251 main event, Anderson (14-5 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) pounded longtime Dutch martial artist [autotag]Melvin Manhoef[/autotag] and finished the fight with elbows at 2:34 of Round 2.

Form the get-go, Anderson showed a well-rounded attack. Unafraid to trade with Manhoef, Anderson landed his strikes until he got the fight to the canvas toward the end of Round 1. A late flurry from Anderson almost finished the fight, but Manhoef survived to see another round.

It would be all for naught, however, as Anderson took Manhoef down Manhoef again early in Round 2. From there, Anderson postured up and landed a hard series of elbows that bloodied and battered Manhoef until referee Todd Anderson stepped in.

The 31-year-old Anderson signed with Bellator in August after he requested his release from the UFC.

With the victory, Anderson punches his ticket back into the win column after losing to newly crowned UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz by first-round knockout. Anderson has won five of his most recent six fights

The loss snaps a two-fight winning streak for Manhoef, who said pre-fight this would be his second-to-last MMA fight. Manhoef, 44, is a lifelong martial artist and has already retired in the sport of boxing. He wants his final MMA fight in his home country in the Netherlands.
