Alabama’s DeMarcco Hellams thinks Chiefs TE Travis Kelce is NFL’s measuring stick for safeties

Asked about the tight end he’s looking forward to covering in the NFL, Alabama S Demarcco Hellams named #Chiefs TE Travis Kelce. | from @EdEastonJr

The 2023 NFL Scouting Combine showcases the best talent as they start their journey in the league and look to make a name for themselves professionally. If they excel in a competitive environment against the premier talent entering the league, it shows NFL coaches and executives that they too belong.

Alabama safety DeMarcco Hellams was one of the leaders of the Crimson Tide defense finishing the 2022 season with 108 tackles and one interception. Hellams has developed a strong reputation for matching up with some of the SEC’s best tight ends in coverage.

Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke with Hellams as he revealed which tight end in the NFL he considers a challenge. The Alabama standout was posed with the question in front of a group of reporters, and his answer was aimed at the Chiefs All-Pro star Travis Kelce.

“I can’t really pick out one particular tight end in mind,” Hellams began. “I guess the perfect matchup just to challenge yourself will obviously have to be Travis Kelce. He’s a guy that gives a lot of people problems, so I’m definitely looking forward to the challenge.”

Hellams led the Rolling Tide in tackles, finishing sixth overall in the SEC. His solid ability to pursue the top ball carriers in college football has led to much of the confidence he’s shown in his football career.

Kelce is coming off the best statistical season of his career so far and has earned the respect of many around the league. Hellams’ confidence is apparent along with his admiration for one of the NFL’s best at the tight end position.

13 Alabama players invited to 2023 NFL Scouting Combine

Roll Tide Wire takes a look at the 13 Alabama players that were recently invited to the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine. The combine will last from Feb. 28-March 3.

The Alabama football program will be well-represented at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine. 13 Alabama players will be present at the combine which is scheduled to last from Feb. 28 to March 3. The event will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Nick Saban and his coaching staff work hard to develop players into better young men on and off the field. It has proven to work out for most as his former players have made it to the league or taken on other occupations outside of the football realm.

Roll Tide Wire takes a look at the 13 players that received their invitation to participate in the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine.

Alabama to have six former players compete at the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl

A look at the six former Alabama football players competing in the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl down in Mobile.

It’s Senior Bowl week down in Mobile, Al. as a collection of some of the best talent in the country will compete in front of NFL coaches and scouts to help their respective draft prospects.

[autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and Alabama will have a total of six former players competing throughout the week.

Each of Alabama’s prospects has a great deal to prove if they want to see their NFL draft stock rise because there is no “super-stars” among the group.

This will be the last time we will see these six former Tide players wearing the famous crimson helmets before they move on to, hopefully, the NFL.

Let’s take a quick look at the six former Alabama players competing in this year’s Reese’s Senior Bowl.

2023 Senior Bowl Preview: Safeties

We finish our Senior Bowl preview series with the safeties

One of the most important events on the National Football League calendar is the Senior Bowl. Held the week after the conference championship games, it is the true beginning of the NFL draft cycle.

Not only do scouts and analysts like us get to see over 100 draft prospects in one place competing against each other, but it’s also an opportunity for analysts and personnel alike to get together and have discussions about a number of topics.

As we look forward to this year’s Senior Bowl, both managing editor Tyler Forness and columnist Matt Anderson will be there in person to break everything down.

We will be breaking down each position group and what to look for throughout the week. Here is the edge rusher position.

Senior Bowl coaching staff selects Saints assistant Cory Robinson

The Senior Bowl has selected Saints assistant Cory Robinson for its American Team coaching staff, where he’ll work with draft prospects like LSU’s Jay Ward:

The Senior Bowl announced Tuesday that it has selected New Orleans Saints assistant defensive backs coach Cory Robinson for its coaching staff, where he’ll work with draft prospects throughout a week of practices leading up to the all-star game. He’s one of four Saints coaches who will be working the event, along with passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ronald Curry (the National Team offensive coordinator) and offensive assistant Declan Doyle (the American Team tight ends coach), plus another coach to be named later.

Robinson will be coaching the American Team safeties Jay Ward (LSU), Demarcco Hellams (Alabama), Jammie Robinson (Florida State), and Christopher Smith II (Georgia). This is a good opportunity for him to get valuable on-field and classroom experience while familiarizing himself with some of the prospects entering the 2023 draft.

Safety is a minor need for the Saints, who have a couple of older players under contract for the next two years in Marcus Maye and Tyrann Mathieu. Maye missed seven games with injuries in 2022 and his backups, Justin Evans and Daniel Sorensen, didn’t inspire a ton of confidence. If they can tackle bigger problems in free agency, it would make sense to draft a safety in preparation for taking one of those roster spots in the near future.

REPORT: Malachi Moore intends to return for senior season at Alabama

Malachi Moore makes a decision on his future with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Shortly after Alabama took care of Kansas State in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, one of the Crimson Tide’s defensive backs announced his plans.

Malachi Moore, a rotation player in the Alabama defensive backfield, told reporters he plans to return to Alabama for his senior season.

If you remember, Moore was a standout defender during his true freshman season in 2020 when he collected 44 tackles and three interceptions.

Injuries plagued Moore during his sophomore campaign which allowed Brian Branch to emerge at the star position for the Alabama defense.

Moore returning for the 2023 season gives Alabama a massive boost in the backend that is set to lose Jordan Battle, DeMarcco Hellams and, most likely, Branch.

2023 NFL Mock Draft: Browns add speedy Jalin Hyatt to create verticality offensively

The Browns have eight picks to make a difference to their roster.

The season is essentially over for the Cleveland Browns after they lost to an underwhelming New Orleans Saints team on Christmas Eve. This means we are fully onboard toward the 2023 NFL Draft. The first start to that is an uptick in 2023 NFL Mock Drafts as we fantasize about filling all of the holes on the Browns’ roster this Spring.

Again, the Browns do not have a first round pick after the Deshaun Watson trade and are not set to come on the clock until the 42nd overall pick in the draft at this point. Regardless, they have eight picks to move around, fill gaps on their roster, and improve the team.

Who do the Browns land in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft?

WATCH: Chilling Alabama Football hype video ahead of Utah State game

DeMarcco Hellams narrates Alabama hype video before kickoff of Week 1 vs. Utah State

The Alabama Crimson Tide football season is upon us and this hype video from the program’s social media will have you ready to suit up and take the field with the team. Starting free safety, [autotag]DeMarcco Hellams[/autotag], narrates the video.

The video highlights the Tide’s discontent with the end result of the 2021 season that saw them come up short in the national title against the Georgia Bulldogs. Even in a season that saw the Tide crowned king of the SEC, it was a disappointing year by the standards of many affiliated with the program.

Hellams and the Crimson Tide defense are ready to show out in 2022 saying, “Time to show the world what Built by Bama really means.”

Alabama football countdown to kickoff: 2 days

We are just 2 days away from the start of Alabama’s 2022 football season.

The Alabama Crimson Tide will take the field for the 2022 college football season in 2 days, as Utah State visits Bryant Denny Stadium on Sept. 3.

This will be Alabama’s first season-opener at home in quite some time, as the 18-time national champs are usually selected for a nationally televised kickoff game at a neutral site against a big-time opponent.

Here at Roll Tide Wire, we will be counting down the days until [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and his team take the field.

Today, with 2 days remaining, we will take a look at star in the Alabama defensive backfield, [autotag]DeMarcco Hellams[/autotag].

Hellams is a senior safety from Washington, D.C. who has appeared in a total of 27 games for the Crimson Tide. Hellams has accumulated 147 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and three interceptions.

Hellams should be in store for a memorable senior season in Tuscaloosa.
