Oklahoma’s Charleston Rambo, Delarrin Turner-Yell back for OU on Saturday

WR Charleston Rambo and S Delarrin Turner-Yell are both back in action today for Oklahoma’s game against Kansas.

No. 19 Oklahoma is preparing to finally retake their home field shortly against Kansas in Norman. As they warm up, it appears two key missing Sooners will be making their return to play this afternoon.

WR Charleston Rambo and S Delarrin Turner-Yell were out for the Texas Tech game, but both are going through warmups and will be back in action today.

On the season, Rambo has caught 17 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns. Turner-Yell, meanwhile, is second on the team in tackles with 26 on the season.

Needless to say, Lincoln Riley and Alex Grinch will be very glad to have these two guys back.

Oklahoma and Kansas is set to kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT this afternoon and will be broadcast on ESPN.

Oklahoma will be missing at least two key pieces from its starting lineup against Texas Tech.

Charleston Rambo has been a two-year starter for the Sooners as has safety Delarrin Turner-Yell. Neither have been off to the start for the Sooners in 2020 that they would probably have hoped for, but experience is experience in a pandemic riddled season.

Both players are out for Saturday’s game, per multiple reports. The Football Brainiacs reported it first and it was later confirmed by Rivals’ Oklahoma affiliate Sooner Scoop. Oklahoma has yet to make a comment this week on either players’ status for the Texas Tech game.

Sooners Wire does not have any information on the two’s status.

Rambo has caught 17 passes for 216 yards for only two touchdowns so far in the 2020 season. He is backed up by freshman Marvin Mims, who has caught 19 passes so far in his first season for 328 yards and six touchdowns.

Turner-Yell has been backed up by experienced defensive back Tre Norwood so far in 2020.

Oklahoma and Texas Tech will kickoff on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT.

Delarrin Turner-Yell quickly emerged as one of Oklahoma’s top defenders last season.

A three-star recruit out of Hempstead, Texas, he had nine Division I offers. He committed to Baylor in April, 2017, and after an unofficial visit with Oklahoma in July, de-committed on August 17 and pledged to the Sooners nine days later.

Turner-Yell saw vast improvement from his freshman to sophomore season. After finishing with just seven tackles in four games in 2018, he amassed 60 solo tackles in his sophomore campaign. His 75 total tackles ranked second only to Kenneth Murray on Alex Grinch’s defense. He was as consistent as safety’s come in an offensive driven league.

After suffering a broken collarbone in the Big 12 Championship against Baylor last season, Turner-Yell sat out of the Peach Bowl against LSU. Next season, he’ll enter as one of the top returning defensive backs in the Big 12, and will look to propel himself into the early rounds of the NFL Draft.

Creed Humphrey will anchor an offensive line that has bolstered a top offense for several years, and will be looking to do the same next year. Jadon Haselwood will be looking for a much bigger role with CeeDee Lamb moving on to the NFL and Kennedy Brooks will look to continue to average a ludicrous amount of yards per carry. Ronnie Perkins and safety Delarrin Turner-Yell will return to command a defense that took tremendous strides under defensive coordinator Alex Grinch.

Texas follows Oklahoma with second best odds to win the conference at +130. After posting an 8-5 record in 2019, Sam Ehlinger will return for his senior year with the Longhorns to help commandeer the offense.

Trey Sermon, Jalen Redmond and Jon-Michael Terry to be out for spring football, others limited

Riley kicked off the 2020 spring with a press conference, and announced over a handful of guys who will miss time or miss the whole spring.

Nik Bonitto, Marcus Major, Delarrin Turner-Yell and Justin Broiles will be limited during the early portion of spring. Bonitto and Turner-Yell were major pieces of Alex Grinch’s defense in 2019.

“Some of those guys are recovering from some things that happened during the season,” Riley said. “Nothing serious. All guys that we expect to have sooner rather than later here in spring ball.”

Among the guys listed out for the spring, Trey Sermon, Jalen Redmond and Jon-Michael Terry were starters at some point in 2019. Theo Howard, a graduate transfer from UCLA, arrived to Oklahoma in Jan, but will miss the spring according to Riley.

“So all expected, all those guys are doing well,” Riley said. “All those guys will be full participants in our next offseason period after spring ball, and all four of those guys are doing extremely well.”

This will open the door for returning players like David Ugwoegbu, Kori Roberson, Woodi Washington, Jeremiah Criddell to get much needed reps and get a chance to prove their worth ahead of the 2020 season.

Oklahoma’s spring practice begins on Tuesday. The Sooners spring game is set for April 18 at 5 p.m. CT.

After Delarrin Turner-Yell suffered a broken collarbone before last season’s Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, Lincoln Riley announced at his press conference on Monday the sophomore will be limited in spring football.

Turner-Yell played a pivotal role for the Sooners defense last season. He finished his season with 75 total tackles, and started in every game for the Sooners.

Justin Broiles replaced Turner-Yell in the Peach Bowl, and LSU wide receiver Justin Jefferson took full advantage, scoring four touchdowns in the first half alone. 

“He got hurt in practice,” Riley said following Turner-Yell’s injury in December of 2019. “Right now our expectation is that he will not play, but we’ll see how the week goes on.

The best game of the season for Turner-Yell came against Baylor in the Big 12 championship, when he recorded eight tackles, three of which were for a loss. The 2020-21 season will be Alex Grinch’s second year with Oklahoma.

The Sooners 2020 Spring Game will take place on April 18 at 5 p.m in Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, OK.

Sophomore safety Delarrin Turner-Yell was reportedly ruled out for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Friday, but Lincoln Riley was unsure about his status for the College Football Playoff semifinal against LSU.

“He got hurt in practice,” Riley said. “Right now our expectation is that he will not play, but we’ll see how the week goes on.

The Sooners defensive depth chart is starting to look thin, as they’ll be without Ronnie Perkins due to suspension, Riley also confirmed on Monday.

Turner-Yell finished his season with 75 total tackles, and started in every game for the Sooners. His best game of the season came against Baylor in the Big 12 championship, when he recorded eight tackles, three of which were for a loss.

Justin Broiles will be the most experienced option to replace Turner-Yell against the talented LSU receiving core, but true freshmen Jeremiah Criddell and Woodi Washington could see the field as well.

The Tigers have Biletnikoff winner Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson, who have combined for 2,705 receiving yards this season. 

The Sooners and LSU will kickoff the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl from Atlanta at Mercedes Benz Stadium on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT.Oklahoma will face top-ranked Tigers on Saturday, December 28 at 3 p.m. in Atlanta.

After the report that star defensive end Ronnie Perkins would be suspended for the Peach Bowl, defensive coordinator Alex Grinch will also be missing starting safety Delarrin Turner-Yell for the Peach Bowl due to a broken collarbone, as it was first reported by The Football Brainiacs and later confirmed by SoonerScoop.com.

The sophomore is coming off his best game at Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship win against Baylor. Turner-Yell recorded eight tackles against the Bears, including three tackles for loss. On the season, he has recorded 75 tackles and started in every game.

Depth has certainly been an issue for Grinch at the safety position. Behind Turner-Yell, only redshirt sophomore Justin Broiles has played meaningful snaps once the rotation settled in.

True freshmen Jeremiah Criddell and Woodi Washington are also options to replace Turner-Yell.

Oklahoma and LSU will play in the College Football Playoff at the Peach Bowl in Atlanta on Dec. 28 at 3 p.m. CT.

Kennedy Brooks, Jeremiah Hall, Adrian Ealy, Gabe Brkic, Neville Gallimore, Ronnie Perkins and Parnell Motley were all-Big 12 second-team honorees.

Other Sooners that picked up honorable mentions include Pat Fields, Reeves Mundschau, Jalen Redmond, Delarrin Turner-Yell and DaShaun White.

Oklahoma led the league in honorees followed by Baylor with 10, TCU (9), Iowa State (8), Oklahoma State (6), Kansas State, Texas Tech, West Virginia (5), Texas (4) and Kansas (2).

With not much surprise, both teams with the most Big 12 honorees are the teams playing for the Big 12 Championship and a possible College Football Playoff birth.

Oklahoma and Baylor will face off in a rematch following their thrilling 34-31 bout in November. Kickoff is set for 11a.m. CT on FOX.
