2023 PFL 4 fighter pay: Bubba Jenkins, Movlid Khaybulaev top list with six figures

Check out the disclosed 2023 PFL 4 fighter pays released by the state of Georgia.

PFL returned to Atlanta this past Thursday for the first of three shows in consecutive weeks at Overtime Elite Arena.

2023 PFL 4 featured final regular season bouts at light heavyweight and featherweight, as well as a pair of showcase fights. The event saw a shocking main event result when former UFC fighter [autotag]Jesus Pinedo[/autotag] knocked out 2022 PFL featherweight champion [autotag]Brendan Loughnane[/autotag] with a brutal knee and punches in Round 1.

Also on the card, 2021 PFL featherweight champion [autotag]Movlid Khaybulaev[/autotag] defeated former UFC fighter [autotag]Tyler Diamond[/autotag], and former UFC bantamweight title challenger [autotag]Marlon Moraes[/autotag] retired after a knockout loss to [autotag]Gabriel Braga[/autotag].

MMA Junkie acquired a list of the 22 athletes’ disclosed payouts from the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission. The amounts do not include bonuses, sponsorships, or any other discretionary payments.

Two fighters, 2022 PFL featherweight runner-up [autotag]Bubba Jenkins[/autotag] and Khaybulaev, topped the list at $100,000 and were the only two athletes on the card with disclosed six-figure payouts.

‘Jesus Christ, those guys were huge’: PFL 205ers react to failed drug tests, removal of half the division from 2023 season

Check out how the remaining PFL light heavyweights reacted to the failed drug tests and removals of half of the division from the 2023 season.

The 2023 PFL light heavyweight season was forced into a major makeover.

Five of the 10 fighters competing in this year’s 205-pound weight class failed drug tests stemming from their first regular season bouts back in April in Las Vegas. The list included: Krzysztof Jotko, Mohammad Fakreddine, Will Fleury, Thiago Santos, and 2022 PFL light heavyweight champion Robert Wilkinson.

This forced the promotion to pull and replace the fighters with failed drug tests and resume the season with half the division’s roster being newcomers.

MMA Junkie asked the remaining light heavyweights [autotag]Ty Flores[/autotag], [autotag]Josh Silveira[/autotag], [autotag]Marthin Hamlet[/autotag] and [autotag]Delan Monte[/autotag], who didn’t fail drug tests, about their reactions to the failed drug tests and changes in the division:

The PFL returns this week for the first of three sets of playoff semifinals, starting with lightweights and light heavyweights.

The 2022 PFL Playoffs 1 event takes place Friday at Hulu Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York. The main card airs on ESPN and streams on ESPN+ following prelims on ESPN+ and ahead of post-lim qualifiers on ESPN+.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

In the main event, No. 1 lightweight seed [autotag]Anthony Pettis[/autotag] (25-13) takes on [autotag]Stevie Ray[/autotag] (24-10) in a rematch from the regular season. Ray upset Pettis in their first meeting with a second-round submmission. The fight nearly is a pick’em. Pettis is -115 at Tipico Sportsbook; the comeback on Ray is -110. Our 11 editors, writers, radio hosts and videographers largely are siding with Pettis to move on to the final. They have him with a big 8-3 picks lead.

At light heavyweight, No. 2 [autotag]Omari Akhmedov[/autotag] (23-7-1) meets late replacement [autotag]Josh Silveira[/autotag] (9-0). Silveira was an alternate and not in the playoffs until Antonio Carlos Jr. pulled out. Silveira is a -220 favorite, but it’s Akhmedov with a 7-4 lead in the picks from our staff members.

In the other lightweight semifinal, [autotag]Olivier Aubin-Mercier[/autotag] (15-5) is a -240 favorite against [autotag]Alexander Martinez[/autotag] (10-2) and he has a big 9-2 picks advantage.

And to open the main card, our only unanimous pick is in the other light heavyweight semifinal. [autotag]Rob Wilkinson[/autotag] (15-2) is this week’s biggest playoff favorite at -340 against [autotag]Delan Monte[/autotag] (9-2), and he’s got an 11-0 picks shutout.

In the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Pettis (60 percent), Silveira (59 percent), Aubin-Mercier (88 percent) and Wilkinson (74 percent) are the choices.

Check out all the picks above.

The lineup is set for the PFL’s first set of playoff fights next month in New York.

[autotag]Anthony Pettis[/autotag] (25-13) remained the top lightweight seed despite an upset loss to [autotag]Stevie Ray[/autotag] (24-10) two weeks ago. Ray’s win made him the No. 4 seed – which set up a rematch with Pettis in the four-man playoff field.

On the other side of the lightweight playoff bracket, No. 2 seed [autotag]Olivier Aubin-Mercier[/autotag] (15-5) takes on No. 3 [autotag]Alexander Martinez[/autotag] (10-2). The winners of those two fights will meet in the $1 million lightweight season final in October.

In the light heavyweight playoffs, there’s been a significant shakeup. Stepping in for Junior is another one of Akhmedov’s teammates at American Top Team, [autotag]Josh Silveira[/autotag] (9-0), who finished the regular season in fifth place and was an alternate.

Top light heavyweight seed [autotag]Rob Wilkinson[/autotag] (15-2) will take on No. 4 [autotag]Delan Monte[/autotag] (9-2) on the other half of the bracket.

The PFL’s first set of playoff fights take place Aug. 5 at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. The four-fight main card of playoff matchups airs on ESPN. A two-fight set of prelims and four fights after the main card stream on ESPN+.

2022 PFL 4 video: Big underdog Delan Monte cashes with 92-second TKO of 2019 champ Emiliano Sordi

Delan Monte was a 4-to-1 underdog, according to the 2022 PFL 4 broadcast – but he certainly didn’t fight like one.

[autotag]Delan Monte[/autotag] was a 4-to-1 underdog, according to the 2022 PFL 4 broadcast – but he certainly didn’t fight like one.

Though he brought his judo background into the cage with him, Monte (9-2) utilized his boxing to quickly dismantle 2019 PFL light heavyweight champion [autotag]Emiliano Sordi[/autotag] (23-11-1) en route to a TKO stoppage at 1:32 of Round 1.

2022 PFL 4 took place Friday at Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta.

The finishing sequence was lengthier than many, with Sordi clipped off a mistimed takedown attempt. Monte immediately noticed his opponent’s stumble and went in for the kill. Sordi did a good job initially as he fended Monte off with counterstrikes. However, he was only able to do so for so long.

With his back against the fence, Sordi bobbed and weaved – but covered up, too. As his opponent ducked blindly, Monte threw an off-rhythm uppercut that dropped Sordi. From there, Monte followed up with a few more punches and the fight was waved off by referee Blake Grice.

With the win, Monte earns six points and bounces back from a submission loss to Antonio Carlos Junior at 2022 PFL 1. As for Sordi, he moves to 0-3-1 in his most recent four outings.

The up-to-the-minute 2022 PFL 4 results include:

  • Delan Monte def. Emiliano Sordi via TKO (punches) – Round 1, 1:32
  • Robert Wilkinson def. Viktor Pesta via TKO (punches) – Round 1, 3:03
  • Josh Silveira def. Marthin Hamlet via TKO (strikes) – Round 1, 3:27
  • Nate Jennerman def. Jake Childers via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 2, 2:00 – showcase bout
