Wisconsin veteran cornerback declares for the 2025 NFL draft

Wisconsin veteran cornerback R.J. Delancy declared for the 2025 NFL draft on Thursday.

The fifth-year senior played just one season with the Badgers. He previously spent one year at Nebraska (2020) and three at Toledo (2021-23).

The veteran transferred to Wisconsin before the 2024 season. He was part of a crowded cornerback room that also included star Ricardo Hallman, accomplished veteran Nyzier Fourqurean and rising freshman Xavier Lucas.

As a result, Delancy played limited snaps at cornerback. He finished the 2024 season with 11 games played and seven tackles. Those numbers were far below his career-best 2023 campaign at Toledo — 28 tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception and 10 pass deflections.

“A special thanks to Badgers fans whose love and support have been incredible. You’ve made my college experience at the University of Wisconsin truly unforgettable,” Delancy wrote on X. “I am excited to announce my decision to declare for the 2025 NFL draft. As I move on, I carry these cherished memories and lessons with me, forever a Wisconsin Badger. I am excited to embrace this new chapter with determination.”

DraftScout.com has yet to list a day or round projection for the veteran cornerback.

Wisconsin’s cornerback room is set to look almost entirely different in 2025. The Badgers have seen several redshirt freshmen transfer out, headlined by Amare Snowden and Jonas Duclona. The program still awaits word on whether Ricardo Hallman will return for another season.

With or without Hallman back, the Badgers badly need to land depth and experience at the position this portal cycle. Delancy’s departure is another experienced player gone from that room.

Texas DB Josh Thompson declares for the 2022 NFL draft

Josh Thompson will turn pro.

Texas defensive back Josh Thompson has declared for the 2022 NFL draft.

Thompson is a senior but had the opportunity to use his extra year of eligibility granted to all NCAA athletes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After committing to Tom Herman’s first signing class in 2017, Thompson has been a mainstay in the Texas secondary over his career. He played both corner and nickel starting 22 games, grabbing two interceptions and making over 100 total tackles.

Thompson was arguably having the best season of any Longhorn defensive back before fracturing his fibula against Kansas.

The decision to go pro was expected after Thompson accepted his Reese’s Senior Bowl invite earlier in the week.

Texas will look for Jahdae Barron, Darrion Dunn or Kitan Crawford to fill Thompson’s role at corner next season.

Other key Longhorns facing similar decisions as Thompson are DeMarvion Overshown, Anthony Cook, D’Shawn Jamison and Keondre Coburn.

Iowa’s leading receiver declares for the NFL Draft

Iowa Hawkeye wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette announced earlier today that he is declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft

As the college football season winds to an end, many of the nation’s top players announce their decision of whether or not to enter the NFL Draft.

This year is unlike any other, though, in that every senior was granted an extra year of eligibility and therefore has the option to return next season.

So, instead of hearing seniors declare for the draft and only not play in their team’s bowl game, now these announcements have another full year of impact.

One of the first big-time decisions came earlier today when Iowa Hawkeye leading receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette announced he is entering the NFL Draft.

The senior led the Hawkeyes this season with 345 yards and 4 touchdowns on 25 receptions.

Badger fans probably remember his final collegiate play–a long touchdown reception capped off by a front-flip.

TheDraftNetwork currently ranks him as the No. 155 player in the draft class and the No. 20 wide receiver.
